I have a dream. I dream that one day, I'll be so good at design that I can design something as good as that. My goodness, it's fantastically functional and absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks, it took a lot of planning and effort to make this come to life. It all started with a sketched concept, and the conveyor system worked out on graph paper. Everything else sorted into place slowly after. Keep building and you'll get there.
A very nice survival build, I love the immersive features! :) I'm thinking of some small upgrades: - you could add a Timer Block as a Remote Drone starter sequence (turn battery to recharge, start engines, etc.) with just one click; - I like to have 2 connectors on the same side, so it automatically alignes the rover / ship more precisely (since you have 2 attaching points instead of 1); - some pistons to lift up the rover in case a wheel pops is always a great emergency feature. Looking forward for your next builds and keep up the good work!
Thanks! I'll definitely add the lifting poisons, that's something I have on most rovers already. I'm also already planning some quality of life improvements to the drone control, I'll add startup timer simplification to the list. Not sure if I'll be able to fit another connector, but that would make lineup easier.
This is the most incredible vehicle I have seen in 1500+ hours of gameplay! Fantastic build, fantastic flex video. The attention to detail has me hooked... Saving this one in the blueprints list *forever*!
Thanks for sharing this and showing off some of the build on the server can’t wait to get back to building with you guys. Definitely one of the best servers I’ve ever played on.
Great work once again Shifty! I really like how much thought you put into your builds! I tend to set tool bars up differently. My Nr.1 Toolbar is always to boot and shut down. I mainly want to be able to hit 1+2+3+... to boot up a vehicle and ...+3+2+1 to shut it down. Example: 1 = Batteries Recharge ON/OFF 2 = Thrusters ON/OFF 3 = Lights ON/OFF 4 = Connector Switchlock Every vehicle is a bit different. Using this method means I don't have to think about what keys to press. Go for a spin = 12345 Come back = 54321 Easy Even using Timer Blocks this way works brilliantly.
Thanks, I always try to make things as satisfying to use as possible. The more time I put into working things out initially the less I have to spend later. Everyone does it a little differently, but making uniform hotbars across your grids is always a good idea.
I gotta say, it's a gorgeous build that really fits the SE aesthetic, but it's all the programmed features that really make this build special. so many thoughtful and convenient little things, all on dummy-simple buttons for ease of use, with fairly clear markings for ease of reference in most cases. just fantastic. I feel like a caveman still banging rocks and sticks together over on my game because I struggle to remember how to apply scripts properly. I will say its length worries me a bit for maneuverability on rough terrain, but I imagine its not really meant for that kind of exploratory driving, and that's what the sub-vehicles are for. other than that, I just want something on it for drilling, and its perfect.
Thanks, glad you like it! I've been using it on a survival server (on Pertam) and it feels pretty good to drive around most terrain. With the back and front wheels steering its turn radius isn't that bad and on hills there are some atmospheric thrusters which help climb without slowing. As you pointed out, sharp changes in terrain can be difficult, but only really at higher speeds. Bumpy terrain can sometimes be easier to drive on with this because it straddles the low parts. I originally was going to put a drill rig on the back, but decided to opt for the sub-vehicle parking. Certainly considered it though, something like I used here (only nicer looking): ua-cam.com/video/8m_7bk3n_bU/v-deo.html
This is absolutely amazing! Now I only wish that Space Engineers had some actual gameplay on planets, with exploration, survival, and all the other befitting elements.
Yeah, it would be nice if there was more to explore in the base game. At least the workshop is full of mods to spice things up. Adding in some abandoned wrecks and NPCs flying around goes a long way.
Pretty neat and clever design. The only thing I'd love to have is some more advanced suspension, but that would make a vehicle wider and needs external programable wheel controller .. which would break beauty of vanilla build. Something for something. Thanks for nice rover.
I can see with the new signals update pulling up to a static drill ice mine that has a conveyor/ejector setup whitelisting ice and have it remotely turned on via a signals switch to dump ice into your collector.
If you get the mood to decide to update such a nice multi-rover into all the new stuff, it will definitely result in a really cool new video, but a great revamped vehicle as well!
I actually have a version I updated with the automatons stuff. Repainted it for Pertam, added a few hydrogen thrusters (so I could drop myself in from space with it), and put signs everywhere. :D Mostly cosmetic stuff, but if I make some major updates I could make a video and post new blueprints.
I love this! I only wish the remote drone was a miner with a drill on an extending piston instead of a gun underneath. And a spot for an advanced rotor to place a large 2x1 refiner assembler or large ore detector.
It's done with a set of three timer blocks in a single control group. The buttons and sensors that trigger the up and down simply "start" all timers in the control group. One timer makes the suspension rise. One makes them lower. And the third stops them both and toggles the power for them, so that only one of the rise/lower timers is on at a time.
I can't believe all the Quality of Life things you managed to include in this rover! I only just now got into this game (at 53 years old) and I'm still building BRICKS! LOL This is amazing! Grab a personal inventory of ice before taking off for the asteroids and come back with some gold, silver and uranium, maybe! I love this awesome SE-RV!
12:29 Would have been handy to turn that air vent upside down, to be able to see the pressurization more easily. Everything else seems to be really well thought out.

Very cool Rover, I'm not a big fan of small grids, as it only takes one or two bullets to pop it like a Piñata, but if it was like a spawn pod I would love to use it
I could study this rover, with all its design and functionality, and really put effort into making something to be proud of….. and still only produce a brick on wheels.
I mean you say the drone won’t work on a moon, but you could have an ion version. If you were real sneaky you could use a projector to switch between them and then weld up the one you need.
Amazing rover! It looks and functions like a real vehicle would, and I especially like the look of the main cockpit. The only thing I don't like is the ascent vehicle. It just looks and feels tacked on. The thrusters just... bug me. Otherwise it's a great design. Really well done!

Yup, they're one grid. Worth noting that if you have rotors, hinges, or pistons attaching those grids those blocks won't print properly. Any chance you could make a a tutorial on how to setup the suspension drop for entrance? I totally wanna steal that and put it on my large rovers

Timer Block 3 (set to 3 seconds):
- Timer Block 1 (stop)
- Timer Block 1 (toggle on/off)
- Timer Block 2 (stop)
- Timer Block 2 (toggle on/off)

It's entirely small grid.
A year late, but can you do a tutorial for the lower and raising mechanism, I’m having a stroke trying to figure it out
Three timer blocks
First one lowers suspension height and "trigger now" itself. Delay set to one second. Block is On.
Second one raises suspension height and "trigger now" itself. Delay set to 1 second. Block is off.
Third: "stop" timer one and two. Switch on/off timer one and two. Delay set to 3 seconds. Block is On.
Put all three timers in a group and trigger the group to "start" whenever you want to switch heights.
7 months too late but still. If you play without 3rd person, use projector to project alignment points visible from the cockpit :)
