Cooper had never dealt with dinosaurs before. He was badly injured and terrified for his life. Any professional in his situation would have cracked under stress, pain, and fear. Complete terror does things to a person's psyche.
There is this incredible level of genius and amazingness of production in this scene if you really slow it down and watch individual components over and over again. Back in the day when I had this only to see on VHS, you couldn't hone in on the details like you can now. First off, the entire scene is so anxiety inducing, the close up angles of the plane props, the terror and impending doom that unfolds so quickly and spontaneously. Secondly, Cooper's sudden and unexpected death scene. It's nothing short of genius how they did this and shot it, and shoutout to actor John Diehl for playing it out so well. When you slow the scene down and watch how the spino is revealed, and how Cooper's brain actually takes a few milliseconds to process what he just turned left and looked at. It's like the animators took this incredible and minute detail into consideration when animating this. Which back then was only expected to be seen for 2 seconds at a time. I LOVE the fact that we can get in there and slow down these scenes now. To see the amazing level of intricacy and passion that went into making them. I am a diehard Jurassic fan since 93 when the first movie came out, and I have to say that this scene is one of my favorites. Just the pure terror they captured as well as the spino reveal coupled on top of the first very brutal death scene in the movie is just awesome. I love it and wanted to share my thoughts on it. Have a great day guys!
Well said. This scene is excellently constructed, the tension that’s immediately set and followed through on is absolutely terrific, it immediately establishes the Spinosaurus as a legitimate threat and a scary one at that. That whole bit with Cooper starting to realise he’s not getting away and the desperate tears of despair… then the immediate terror as he realises he’s about to become lunch in a second is brilliant! It’s a shame then that the film as a whole fails to live up to the quality of the first 2 films. It’s not a bad film, but it’s not very well written, and the direction is a definite step down putting this sequence behind. It’s a 90 minute cat and mouse chase that becomes a touch formulaic and that’s somewhat annoying by the end. Every character apart from Alan and the 2 mercenaries are complete idiots and I think it would have been a much more interesting film if the parents had been established as the clear antagonists, so many ideas that could be explored there, with the son taking to Alan and ultimately rejecting his parents for their incredibly selfish actions that got many people killed despite their best intentions. It would give the film way more thematic depth… But there are some great sequences nonetheless 👍🏻
In the german dub. Cooper says: "Please take me with you." That was even more touching for me because it shows much more despair and genuine fear of him.

Sure he can. He's an idiot, not a professional in anything. Waits for a plane at literally just below takeoff speed to stop in front of him, instead of trying to hide or something since he pretty clearly did outrun the damn spino for a while. Of course no one can handle when you are brought by the group just to be left behind. He may be paid but to die alone was not part of the job description.
You know...if you think about it, the Spinosaurus saved Cooper in this scene. Without the Spinosaurus, Cooper would have been run over by the plane. Nash even said just before: "Come on, Cooper. Get out the way! You know I can't stop this plane!" So, in a way, the Spinosaurus picked him up to get him out of the way of the approaching plane. Am I right?
The actor playing Nash was epic; not only did he show the terror he had from the spino, he also conveyed the feeling of the pilot being a piece of s*** who was ready to first abandon and then fly right through his comrade.
Props to John Henry Diehl (Cooper's actor), he really sells how scared and hopeless one would feel in this situation. I can't watch him begging the plane to stop without feeling a sickening twist in my stomach.
One more thing I just noticed... If you pause at just the right moment at 1:56, you can see telephone wires on the mountain behind the approaching plane. Look carefully, and you can see a telephone pole with attached wires that stretch all the way from left to right.
To be fair. Not even Dr Grant knew there was a giant angry Spinosaurus on the island. The parents had little to no idea about the dangers and falsely believed that being in the open was safer.

We didn’t get to see enough of Isla Sorna. The third movie should have just been about the dinosaurs and the island, with Richard Attenborough narrating .
i'm pretty sure the plane prop hitting the top sail at 2:08 would have killed the spino at some point since the spino has multiple blood vassals that run through its sail it would have bled out in a hour with that kind of damage
Who knows. Many big modern animals like whales and sharks get hit with props and heal up. But cold deep salt water is definitely different than a tropical air environment.
Forget that, the gun shots alone would have done a number on it. But Jurassic Park movies have a habit of forgetting guns exist or pretending the dinosaurs have Terminator levels of invincibility.
That was really cold, abandoning Cooper like that, but I guess the director was trying to make an example out of him for hitting Dr. Grant or something 😅

Am I right?
The dinosaur was just trying to help.
@@ralphholiman7401 Exactly.
And in the process got killed
Then he protected the group from a T-Rex and tried to return the phone.
More like the Spino put him out of his misery first before the plane splattered him.
I love Jurassic park
Me too
Me too huge fan
Me too
I love the first witch is the still the best one the rest is as heff goldblum say thats a gigant piece of 💩
Same
That scene where the plane crashes was awesome!
The last good JP piece. Rest In Piece.
Almost 25 years later this part of the movie still gives me goosebumps. It sparked my love for the Beechcraft King Air too. 👍
The actor playing Nash was epic; not only did he show the terror he had from the spino, he also conveyed the feeling of the pilot being a piece of s*** who was ready to first abandon and then fly right through his comrade.
How was the pilot a piece of shit? He did what anyone would have done. Cooper wasn't gonna make it.
what??? ur projecting dude they can’t help cooper at this point
they had no choice. considering how quickly the Spino made it to the runway, had he waited they all would have died.
God i i love historical inaccuracies and fairytale as such and the comments are worthwhile
@@TreeBarkSide How could Cooper have survived, and how long would he have needed to wait before they would have come back for him?
Props to John Henry Diehl (Cooper's actor), he really sells how scared and hopeless one would feel in this situation. I can't watch him begging the plane to stop without feeling a sickening twist in my stomach.
This is a masterpiece compared to Jurassic World franchise.
Seriously. It feels so much more real
Jurassic park all time best.Part2 more better than part1.part1 overall nice
Goal film harris character in this film.
As a kid I always thought this plane crash was the worst. Then I grew up and saw the green inferno 😆
One more thing I just noticed...
If you pause at just the right moment at 1:56, you can see telephone wires on the mountain behind the approaching plane. Look carefully, and you can see a telephone pole with attached wires that stretch all the way from left to right.
It makes sense, considering InGen was set up there and, well, comms are pretty important
Lol,my entire life watching the franchise and I never noticed that? 😅
They tested the landline and it didn't work
@@jackrios4040bro who do you think is gonna pick up? plus the island was abandoned for 8 years after a devastating hurricane
My favorite movie of all time and I NEVER noticed that. Man that is wild.
3:00 is that Spinosaur footprint 👣
To be fair. Not even Dr Grant knew there was a giant angry Spinosaurus on the island. The parents had little to no idea about the dangers and falsely believed that being in the open was safer.
Well it was probably sorta true in the case of velociraptors and such, given how they ambush people
I dont even think he knew that type of dinosaur existed
@@tallesttree4863 True but in the second film they explain that velociraptors tend to hunt in the interior of the island, in long grass. So they wouldn't have been too close
@cyberpun2552 Moreso he didn't know it was on Ingen's creation list
Now this is how you introduce a movie monster! This scene still gives me chills to this day!
I remember watching this really hoping the entire time that the mom and dad would get eaten.
Same. Then we met the kid...
@@khymaaren i was hoping only grant would survive
i did too.
Until I realized that they would've survived by annoying the dinosaurs to death.
That dad was good... It's just that mom that was such an irritation...
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I always loved the Spinosaurus roar after the "Whats a bad idea?"
No matter how many times I see this movie that wife pisses me off 😂
To me this movie is better than all 3 jurasic world movies
Udesky: "It's gonna be a Walk in a Park"
Also him: 0:57
I love this movie it was pretty good
Dr. Grant knows a Tyrannosaurs rex roar when he hears it.
Nash: Come on coop get out the way
Cooper: (sobbing)
Nash: You know I can’t stop this plane
Cooper: (SCREAMS AND DIES)
Nash: OH MY GOD!!
Udesky: Fuel cut off!
Nash: We’ Going Down!
Fuel cutoff… made it that much more realistic.
As a kid this movie was amazing, as an adult not so much. But stil my favorite movie of the franchise

1:57 the "stop" would always make me emotional and i'd always hoped Cooper would survive
I cant think how scary that needed to be when people first seen it. Imagine in the first two movies people saw only Trex and it was the biggest carnivore then comes this moment
Billy: its tyrannosaurus rex
Alan Grant: sounds bigger
Imagine people thinking Trex is the biggest and the most dangerous carnivore and then Alan says its something bigger. I would be terrified and surprised
"Bigger?! What could be bigger than a trex?!"
That woman and guy did a good job on making themselves become food to be eaten
Amanda honey can you scream louder for Ben so that thing will chase after you instead of us.
Yet They didn't get eaten 🤣🤣
Cooper crying on the runway and the pilot saying “you know I can’t stop this plane” always stayed with me for some reason.

This Spinosaurus it's Hybrid.
@@heitorsantos7046it’s a illegally modified dinosaur, not confirmed to be a “hybrid”
i loved this Jurassic movie because of Tea Leoni. I love her since Deep Impact
It's a shame we didn't get to see Isla Sorna again
We didn’t get to see enough of Isla Sorna. The third movie should have just been about the dinosaurs and the island, with Richard Attenborough narrating .
i'm pretty sure the plane prop hitting the top sail at 2:08 would have killed the spino at some point since the spino has multiple blood vassals that run through its sail it would have bled out in a hour with that kind of damage
That particular scene confuses me even today
Who knows. Many big modern animals like whales and sharks get hit with props and heal up. But cold deep salt water is definitely different than a tropical air environment.
Because you've cloned one and performed this experiment to be "pretty sure," right?
More to the point, the pilot kept the plane on the ground long after VR and could/should have already been in the air and able to clear it easily.
Forget that, the gun shots alone would have done a number on it.
But Jurassic Park movies have a habit of forgetting guns exist or pretending the dinosaurs have Terminator levels of invincibility.
Mr. Kirby :- We are setting here parameters to make this place safe 🤣🤣
Dr. Grant :- On this island 🏝️, there's no such thing as SAFE !!!!!! XD 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It would be better if they didn't forget to turn the plane in advance than making a U-turn later.
Amanda was so annoying in the entire movie that even Dinosaurs refused to eat her after sniffing in the end.
Just now realizing as an adult just how much this scared me as a kid.
That was really cold, abandoning Cooper like that, but I guess the director was trying to make an example out of him for hitting Dr. Grant or something 😅
No. "You know I can't stop this plane" Plane was too fast to abort takeoff.
@@jonahmoran3751but they left him in the first place. It was a bizarre change of events

Spino is a beast. It shrugged off 4 rounds from that Einhorn 20mm.
or Cooper is just a bad shot 😂
@jennatolls904 Yeah a trained mercenary is a bad shot. Makes sense. 🤡
@@Mephisto579 The Spino probably had him on the run and he was unable to get off accurate shots. The disadvantage of taking a massive canon into a forest.
@TheHuntw2 He didn't miss. You can clearly hear him hit the spino that's why it roars at him. People are so quick to say he missed yet he was a literal trained mercenary.
@@Mephisto579 Nah you would have heard at least a muffled explosion from a hit on the Spino from that gun which has high explosive ammo and destroyed a plane earlier in the movie. Poor Cooper missed all of his shots. A single landed shot from a 20mm would have done damage to the Spino and it didn't have a scratch on it.
“Cooper’s a professional, he can handle himself”
Immediate sounds of him not handling himself
That was a foolish move she pulled screaming and attracting Spinosaurus.
A picture of my childhood memories
Amanda was really that stupid to bring a megaphone to an infested island full of dinosaurs and make loud noises in front of the jungle where the dinosaurs can hear from miles ahead.

@@GigiGarcia9369they were saying that they could have possibly encountered juvenile spino’s and had killed one. thats why the adult was searching for them for revenge
@@jennatolls904there are 2 theories why the spinosaurus was after them.
1: after the spino bites down on cooper the plane clipped the spinosaurus's sail on his back. That explains why it was coming for them, it probably saw them as hostile or wanted to get payback.
2: it was highly territorial and its chasing after them to protect its turf, it wouldn't make sense for a predator of that size to go after small prey like them for food.
2:00 they had more than enough speed to take off.
6 guys are running hard but "Cooper's a professional he can handle himself!" 😂
I mean how?
I remember even as a kid this scene didnt make any sense to me. But now I know that coopers injury was because he was attacked by a baby spinosaurus and killed it and or others. Witch is why the adult chases them throughout the whole film. Unfortunately they didnt keep It in the script
