thrifting isnt what it used to be because everyone and their mom thrifts so i feel like the gems are harder to spot. it’s a double edged seord because while it does help the environment it also sucks for those families who can only afford to go thrifting who end up struggling to find cute clothes because thrifty is now trendy
I always see the valid points in an argument like this. I grew up thrifting because that’s what we’re could afford, so I sympathize with this. I am happy that is is trendy in terms of the environment - it’s really an amazing thing. But yeah... even coming from someone who started a vintage shop... everyone and their mother now has a vintage shop. It’s concerning for sure, and you’ll see with the re-launch of my store I have man some decisions to ensure I am not adding to the problem. I’ll talk more about this soon. Sorry for the long winded reply!
It's because resellers strip the good stuff out . And also because noone donates their good stuff, the donate the crap and poshmark the rest. Basically every man and his dog want 💰
Every cute or trendy item that is purchased by people who COULD afford to buy new is taking that item from some poor teen or mom/dad.
Not saying we shouldn't do it, but don't fool yourself into thinking there is plenty to go around. The stuff that goes to the landfill isn't the cute trendy stuff!

I think there are more than enough clothes out there for everybody.

Omg, I was so sceptical about the satin skirt. Thought that no way it would look good, but oh my I was wrong! It's beautiful! Kinda want one for myself now, although I'm not a skirt girl.
Before I go into a thrift store I say “I want I get!” I’m always amazed at how I find exactly what I’m looking for... most of the time. It’s crazy.
Tasha, I love that you like to save the trees and the earth....so I'm wondering why you are wearing a disposable mask. Why not make your own out of some scrap material that I'm sure you have. If not, better to buy a fabric one than to use disposable ones. Something to think about? ♥
Also, I think the flowered dress looks really good on you. Very flattering to your figure. ♥ If I were you, I would not turn it into a skirt. Just my opinion. :) (You can always wear a Tee over it when you want to, but then you would still have the option of wearing it as a dress.)

Oh I miss thrifting so much! Ours in our area literally opened for a week before the state decided to Re-close them due to this pandemic... love the yellow dress and skirt with the crop top!

It's weird that your thrift stores had so little! When my mom's thrift store reopened they were so slammed with donations she had to order new racks and cut prices to fit it all, and even after that the back room was still absolutely full. Everyone cleaned out their houses during quarantine cause they had nothing else to do.

Value village and goodwills clothes are blah right now and they want $17-$20 for a dress at value village. Home decor hasn’t been terrible but agree 100% hard to get shirts and dresses

Agree, my thrift stores did not have great stuff last time I went. And like NO fall stuff, I was really surprised. I need to go again for round 2 now that it’s been a couple weeks to see if they’re better. Fingers crossed 🤞
Thrifting is usually a bust for me now. I’ve been thrifting for twenty years and it’s not the same. I used to be able to find true vintage for next to nothing, but now everyone is flipping for extra money. I’ve decided I’m going to start sewing my own clothes because I honestly only want to have a few pieces in my wardrobe and my style is so specific it’s rare for me to find items in my area. I encourage everyone to embrace a small wardrobe and learn to either make or mend items to extend their life. Buying copious amount of used clothing is still consumption for consumption sake.
I can’t wait to order from thredup! Where I live, thrift stores hardly ever have good stuff. So this is a good alternative!

The other thing I’m doing that saves planet and my pocket book too is that I’m going through my closet and all my older clothes and seeing how many new different combinations I can put together for outfits in ways An combinations I have not worn them before .

I am finding soooo many things when I go to thrift stores right now. They all seem to be filled to rims!!!
I have not thrifted since early Feb. I finally went yesterday and had a list. The one thing I really needed was buttons for a shirt I am sewing so I went thru ladies shirts and found the perfect buttons on a shirt I would not wear. I also found a great boho T. A flannel shirt in the perfect colors, a blue cable knit sweater, a green fleece zip up with a hood and a belt. Love all the items I got and they will all get a ton of wear. The thing is I go with a list but I am flexible. I only get stuff I really love but I do not need everything on the list and also get things not on the list. Forgot I also got a men's huge henley top in the perfect rust color that I am going to remake to fit me.
I have become obsessed with Thred up, such a great variety, it's been a game changer for me!!!

If you haven't yet, I think you should leave the yellow floral dress as a dress!! The cut is lovely on you and if you want to wear it as a skirt, you can always just wear a shirt over it :)

I think the old navy dress would look good with a chunky belt. The tie waist just looks a little low for the shapes you seem to create with your looks.

I live in North Dakota and for some time the thrift stores here were first closed then when they reopened were not taking clothes because of the covid virus .
I think instead of making the dress a skirt, cut a slit into it! The top fits you beautifully, or make it a co-ord set, but the top is a very flattering cut on you!

The reason as to why a hand full of vv wont have much is because they are limited to how much they are getting . Normally trucks would drop of 2-3 times a day and workers would be bringing out items throughout the day..now whatever clothes are out is either from what people bring in or back stock from a few months ago. Plus if they aren't able to bring out things unto the floor during the day it will be a lot less available. I went to a few vv that had really small amounts of clothes on the racks.
Wow , you did finally find some good items. I really like the pale pink silk skirt on you. I am so uptight about these skirts because they can show every little imperfection. I thrift a maze yellow for around $8. I don't know when I will wear it . With the dressing rooms closed it hard to try on stuff if you are shy. I wear my protective gear and legging or bike shorts, so I can try clothes over it. And you did find a great dress also. Thredup seem like it really neat but because of sizing concerns, I don't do too much on line shopping if it not shoes. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come.

How do you keep your whites so white? I’m always afraid of buying white anything, because they get so dingy
I usually do a load of bleach, where I dilute the bleach to next to nothing and I let it run as a "white" load would. It helps a lot!

Thrift stores have been a little thin lately because of the pandemic here in Oregon.
I do have trouble on Thred Up, though. I don’t know if I’m going in with the wrong mind frame but I can hardly ever go in and just shop🤷♀️

Where I’m from in Australia our thrift stores haven’t been accepting clothes since May because of Covid so they’re basically empty of stock. We are back in stage 3 lockdown now so it might be a while until the thrift stores are worth going to 😭 I definitely miss it.

The dress is pretty and instead of doing a DIY, just pop a tee over the top, I do that to my dresses sometimes. people tell the difference.
