Ok but like Nagito is legit terrified of losing someone like Hajime, he’s the only person that Nagito felt truly close with in a really long time, but due to his luck cycle, he was probably just paranoid that if he fully confessed, something horrible would happen to him, cause thats how his luck works. His extreme bad luck always took the people he loved, and since luck is subjective to the person, if Nahito thought of Hajime as just his Good Friend then nothing that bad would happen to him. So ultimately he was trying to protect him from dying, after remembering all the people he’s accidentally killed. So as desperately he wanted to confess to him, he couldnt do it out of his paranoia.

The best thing about this ending is the fact that in associating with Hinata, Komaeda finally boosted his self-esteem. He realised there was Hope lingering within him too (his reaction to this discovery was perfect in terms of his character), and the fact that he says, I think it's about time I was blessed with some good luck... That's amazing considering his personality, where he normally relents to the cycle and he never advocates for himself. It was lovely to see a meaningful ending like this. Seriously, I'm proud of him, aha.

+NightfireLPS it's actually been said that Komaeda has romantic feelings towards Hinata, in the japanese version, on the last free time event Komaeda actually starts a love confession but then back tracks almost in panic. he says something along the lines like "dont forget, that I love you....the hope that sleep inside you....from the bottom of my heart" also his character song "poison"sung by his original japanese voice actor has the line "I love and want to understand him more than anyone else" which is referring to hinata or at least Izuru. so yeah it might be onesided but it's canon. Then again Hinata also says "in the end everything Komaeda said....I dont know what was true or what was lies...but even so there must have been a definite truth somewhere in his words...if there wasn't, there was no way I could feel this mysterious bond between komaeda and me" so yeah, sorry I rambled I just love this pairing so much.....also Komaeda calls the hotel their "love nest" bye...
Honestly, I think Komaeda meant to actually confess his love for Hajime, but he got too nervous, so he just said "friend". Or, maybe he is too afraid of getting close to Hajime because of his horrible cycle of good and bad luck.
During the main story's free time events Nagito also tries to confess his feelings for Hajime (well, at least in the Japanese version...stupid US department. And in a special CD dedicated to Nagito (and Hajime), Nagito actually does confess his feelings. That CD is basically the 5th free time event, but differently (and better).
Too bad that Nagito would never confess in order to protect Hajime because those he loved always ended up dead due to his 'bad luck' ( at least that's what he believe.) But then, I believe that Hajime's abilities as Ultimate Hope would just cancel out Nagito's luck. Poor Nagito.

I guess during the game, Nagito just slowly transformed from hopesexual into Hajimesexual, considering how he was still obsessed with Hajime after he discovered the truth. I was quite confused with this ship at first actually. What I thought was that Nagito only cared for the hope in Hajime, but not Hajime himself and that after Nagito knew the truth, he would just give up on Hajime and the bond would be broke. (That would be really sad.) However, seeing that Nagito kept fixating on Hajime after chapter 4, I started to believe that Nagito loved Hajime as a person, not just his 'hope'.
Nagito utilized and idealized hope as a coping mechanism to deal with his trauma and fear of his luck cycle, by using hope he believed that he could overcome his intense fears and paranoia. Once he met Hajime and started bonding with him, he started realising that he was capable of finding love within himself, and essentially fell in love with Hajime because he made Nagito feel loved and worthy of growth and appreciation. So essentially, Nagito’s definition of hope changed, due to his love for Hajime. It’s also implied that love is the exact middle between true despair and true hope, during Mikan’s trial she talks about how love made her not feel/feel both despair and hope, and with Nagito falling in love and realising that hope is not what he was looking for after all. End Scene
Lmao you know he was going to confess and then completely copped out. That's even what happened in the Japanese. Why else do you think Hinata was like "oh, that's it"? Hinata totally thought Komaeda was going to ask him out. Komaeda you should have asked him out. (Oh but he was never going to. Komaeda isn't exactly... capable of handling emotions, positive or negative, nor do I think he completely understands them half the time).
It's kinda sad that this isn't canon because Nagito realising that he also has hope inside of himself, and thus he is precious and important too, is a really nice ending to his character arc.
A lot of the comments are practically saying their disappointed he only said “friend” but judging by the fact that almost every friend or everyone he loves and or loves him dies that’s actually a massive step for nagito to be able to ask to be friends, God someone needs to hug him and just give him love he deserves it.
I swear to Monokuma; if I was asked Nagito's question from this ending, I would've totally gotten the wrong answers and only choose the right one at the end. He's a very well-made and interesting character and all, but sometimes I don't get him and his way of thinking, really.

Why I think Komahina is a good and healthy ship: First of all it's canon that Komaeda is madly in love with Hinata for who he is, not just for his hope. Proof of that is in his free time events when he says "I don't feel that special aura that I feel from others coming from you, I only feel the aura of a miserable bystander, just like me" which indicates to him already feeling like Hinata isn't special or that he doesn't have any sort of talent so he couldn't possibly be in love with him just because of hope. Also there is one time when before going to the class trial in chapter 4 he says "But I know that you don't matter at all so *why do I still care for you* ? You admire hope, I love hope...In some ways we are different but *maybe that difference is what's making me so emotional* ". While it doesn't sound as much, in the japanese version is much better! He says "But I know you are a person with no specialty so *why are you still inside my heart* ? You worship hope, and I love it...In some ways we are different but *maybe that chemistry is what's making me so emotional* ". It shows how even after he learned that he was a reserve course AND Ultimate Despair, he still loved him and was just trying to hide it. That basically explains how he doesn't love him just for his hope, but for him as a person. A lot of people say that Hajime hated Nagito but I'm going to debunk that. At first we can see that they were friends so when Nagito showed his true colors, he said he felt betrayed because he really thought he was a kind person. When he goes to bring Nagito food he is still in denial about how he feels towards him, now that he knows who he is and before he left he said this "I don't want to be tricked by you anymore!" so it's shows how he feels like he can't be friends anymore because he doesn't want to be betrayed, even tho deep down, he still wants to. When Nagito had the despair desease he was constantly worried about him and at one point he said why should he even be worried about a guy like him but he still goes to check up on him which is really sweet. When Nagito started being mean to him, he felt hurt but if he hated him he wouldn't have cared, but he did care what he thought of him. In Danganronpa 2.5 when Nagito wakes up, Hajime seems worried about him, if he hated him he wouldn't have even forgave him. And the last scene in it shows Hajime reaching for his hand, and Nagito takes it which was ADORABLE. This shows how Hajime never hated Nagito. In the alternate universes like Island Mode and Ultimate Talent Development Plan their interactions are really interesting and sweet. In Island Mode we all know that they are basically friends and have pretty cute interactions like when Hajime says to go under a tree for some shade Nagito gets flustered or when they go to the library Nagito compliments Hajime and in his mind he says "It's hard to stay calm when he openly praises me like this" or when they are at the beach and Hajime says to make a sand castle Nagito says "I never completed something till the end so I don't know if it will work out. But if I make it with you maybe it's going to turn out alright. At least that's how I feel" which is so cute!! And we can't forget when Hajime says to take off their clothes the conversation goes like this "Does that mean...you want to go in the ocean with me? I don't think that's a good idea as it might be very dangerous. But I don't mind if you just wanna see me naked!" "You don't mind? I think we *both* had a really good time!". I love that part so much! In Ultimate Talent Development Plan (UTDP) their first interactions are Nagito being mean to Hajime. The reason he was so mean was because he was a reserve course student. But the real reason is because he was jealous of him. It might be weird to hear this but it's kind of confirmed that all Nagito wants is to have a normal life like a normal person. No hope, no despair, no talents. Proof of that are: 1. In his final FTE Hajime asks him what would he do if he didn't have his talent. He responds "I'd probably have a normal life. A boring normal life with no hope and no despair". This can show how all he craves in life is normality and the reason he dislikes normal people is because he envies them and wants to be like them because he doesn't want to fear being happy and having friends because of his luck. 2. In DR 2.5 he dreams about being a normal guy with a bit of an unlucky life but it's nothing extreme. He dreams of Fuyuhiko and Soda being his best friends which is SO SWEET AND CUTE AND SAD!! He just wants to be friends with his classmates and he just wants the best for them! Anyway back to UTDP, if you choose the sitting alone option Hajime will come to you. Nagito is wondering why someone as popular as Hajime was coming to talk to him. He says how the party felt too intense so he came to talk to him. Nagito wonders why he would want to talk to him after everything he said. Hajime says that after all the time they have talked he still feels like he doesn't understand him. Nagito says how there are a lot of things he will probably never understand about him. Hajime says that he doesn't want to end things like that before school ends and that he still wants to keep in touch. He reaches Nagito's hand for a handshake but Nagito holds his hand for a longer period of time (kwjdhsj so cute). Hajime asks him to let go and Nagito asks why. He says that this is a handshake and your supposed to let go after the handshake is done. He asks him if he hold it for longer because he wants to be his friend (damn what a friendzone). Nagito asks if there is a point in being friends and Hajime says that even something as small as that can change things. Nagito accepts and then Hajime invites him to his birthday party with the rest of the class. Nagito agrees and then the interaction ends. Jesus I've never wrote something this long before! Bare with me cuz I only have a little left. In hope arc we can see how they become friends and Nagito learns how to have a balanced belief in hope that is not chaotic in any way and he learns to appreciate everyone in a normal way. He still keeps his talks and stuff because if he didn't he wouldn't be Nagito but it shows how he has grown from his past mistakes. He is ready to live a normal life with Hajime and everyone else. This is what I call character development. In conclusion, this ship is amazing and sweet and the character itself is a 10/10. Seriously, I've never been invested in something more than this boy.
Same goes to the rest of the cast actually. They might not necessarily like him, but I doubt they hate him. It's more like they don't understand him and are creeped out by him

it's such a great progress in there relationship. Nagito is a person who can only speak of hope confidently with others and think of him as unworthy of such hope . For him to ask in such a cute way to be friends without adding " if it's ok for u to with be a ' worthless trash ' like me " . Nagito was honestly my favorite character in the game. Maybe it's because I relate to Nagito a lot, but I just wish that this game had some story branching to it rather than the main story being completely linear. If it did branch, I would have had Hajime befriend Nagito from the beginning, and stick by him even when everyone else thought he was insane. I honestly think that if Hajime had been Nagito's friend, then the story would have progressed with Nagito not dying.
Seiko Shinobaka Hmmm, I don't know... I mean, true romantic and platonic relationships aren't completely different from each other. The only difference between the two is that there is another layer to a romantic relationship, and that's intimacy. So it's possible that Hajime can start off as Nagito's friend and then the platonic relationship can develop into something more "intimate", which of course is what a romantic relationship is. If you really think about it, a couple is best friends who share a special connection different from others because of that extra layer called intimacy...🤔 Idk, that's just my opinion on the matter~.

You guys just don't get it at all. Nagito doesn't need a love interest or want one. He just wants a friend, not a lover. After being alone for so long, all he wants is to have friends who understand him and care for him. I ship Komahina as much as the next girl, but some of you are blowing this way out of proportion. Poor baby is traumatized and mentally and emotionally stunted. He wouldn't know how to handle having a crush. Friendship is what he needs right now. Not to be forced into a one-sided romance. The fact that he asked Hajime to be his friend is so sweet and heartbreaking
I watched this about a year or two ago and got in my recommendations again and just realized that Nagito not only friend zoned Hajime but himself to. I feel like that is something only he can accomplish. Even if you don't ship you can't deny there was at least a little something more there.

I actully think why Nagito said that this was a bad ending is because of 2 reasons: 1. He said that this was bad luck so that when he asked Hajime to be his friend, he wouldnt get rejected. Meaning if this was a good ending (good luck) it would be followed by bad luck being Hajime rejecting Nagito. 2. He thought that this is a sign of bad luck cause he had not been able to escape from his cycle of bad luck and good luck. He also wanted to be killed for 2 reasons: first being he wanted hope to beat despair. Second being to gain freedom by escaping the cycle of good and bad luck. Again this just what i think😊
I'm not really a shipper, but Nagito Komeada is my favorite character. So I have to say, this island-mode ending is kind of sad. Nagito says that he was disappointed that he didn't die on this island, and that he really just wanted his luck cycle to end. I feel like a lot of comments are overlooking that.

also his character song "poison"sung by his original japanese voice actor has the line "I love and want to understand him more than anyone else" which is referring to hinata or at least Izuru.

Honestly, I think Komaeda meant to actually confess his love for Hajime, but he got too nervous, so he just said "friend". Or, maybe he is too afraid of getting close to Hajime because of his horrible cycle of good and bad luck.
During the main story's free time events Nagito also tries to confess his feelings for Hajime (well, at least in the Japanese version...stupid US department. And in a special CD dedicated to Nagito (and Hajime), Nagito actually does confess his feelings. That CD is basically the 5th free time event, but differently (and better).

I guess during the game, Nagito just slowly transformed from hopesexual into Hajimesexual, considering how he was still obsessed with Hajime after he discovered the truth.
I was quite confused with this ship at first actually. What I thought was that Nagito only cared for the hope in Hajime, but not Hajime himself and that after Nagito knew the truth, he would just give up on Hajime and the bond would be broke. (That would be really sad.) However, seeing that Nagito kept fixating on Hajime after chapter 4, I started to believe that Nagito loved Hajime as a person, not just his 'hope'.
Nagito utilized and idealized hope as a coping mechanism to deal with his trauma and fear of his luck cycle, by using hope he believed that he could overcome his intense fears and paranoia. Once he met Hajime and started bonding with him, he started realising that he was capable of finding love within himself, and essentially fell in love with Hajime because he made Nagito feel loved and worthy of growth and appreciation. So essentially, Nagito’s definition of hope changed, due to his love for Hajime. It’s also implied that love is the exact middle between true despair and true hope, during Mikan’s trial she talks about how love made her not feel/feel both despair and hope, and with Nagito falling in love and realising that hope is not what he was looking for after all. End Scene

Why I think Komahina is a good and healthy ship:
First of all it's canon that Komaeda is madly in love with Hinata for who he is, not just for his hope. Proof of that is in his free time events when he says "I don't feel that special aura that I feel from others coming from you, I only feel the aura of a miserable bystander, just like me" which indicates to him already feeling like Hinata isn't special or that he doesn't have any sort of talent so he couldn't possibly be in love with him just because of hope. Also there is one time when before going to the class trial in chapter 4 he says "But I know that you don't matter at all so *why do I still care for you* ? You admire hope, I love hope...In some ways we are different but *maybe that difference is what's making me so emotional* ". While it doesn't sound as much, in the japanese version is much better! He says "But I know you are a person with no specialty so *why are you still inside my heart* ? You worship hope, and I love it...In some ways we are different but *maybe that chemistry is what's making me so emotional* ". It shows how even after he learned that he was a reserve course AND Ultimate Despair, he still loved him and was just trying to hide it. That basically explains how he doesn't love him just for his hope, but for him as a person.
A lot of people say that Hajime hated Nagito but I'm going to debunk that. At first we can see that they were friends so when Nagito showed his true colors, he said he felt betrayed because he really thought he was a kind person. When he goes to bring Nagito food he is still in denial about how he feels towards him, now that he knows who he is and before he left he said this "I don't want to be tricked by you anymore!" so it's shows how he feels like he can't be friends anymore because he doesn't want to be betrayed, even tho deep down, he still wants to. When Nagito had the despair desease he was constantly worried about him and at one point he said why should he even be worried about a guy like him but he still goes to check up on him which is really sweet. When Nagito started being mean to him, he felt hurt but if he hated him he wouldn't have cared, but he did care what he thought of him. In Danganronpa 2.5 when Nagito wakes up, Hajime seems worried about him, if he hated him he wouldn't have even forgave him. And the last scene in it shows Hajime reaching for his hand, and Nagito takes it which was ADORABLE. This shows how Hajime never hated Nagito.
In the alternate universes like Island Mode and Ultimate Talent Development Plan their interactions are really interesting and sweet. In Island Mode we all know that they are basically friends and have pretty cute interactions like when Hajime says to go under a tree for some shade Nagito gets flustered or when they go to the library Nagito compliments Hajime and in his mind he says "It's hard to stay calm when he openly praises me like this" or when they are at the beach and Hajime says to make a sand castle Nagito says "I never completed something till the end so I don't know if it will work out. But if I make it with you maybe it's going to turn out alright. At least that's how I feel" which is so cute!! And we can't forget when Hajime says to take off their clothes the conversation goes like this "Does that mean...you want to go in the ocean with me? I don't think that's a good idea as it might be very dangerous. But I don't mind if you just wanna see me naked!" "You don't mind? I think we *both* had a really good time!". I love that part so much!
In Ultimate Talent Development Plan (UTDP) their first interactions are Nagito being mean to Hajime. The reason he was so mean was because he was a reserve course student. But the real reason is because he was jealous of him. It might be weird to hear this but it's kind of confirmed that all Nagito wants is to have a normal life like a normal person. No hope, no despair, no talents. Proof of that are:
1. In his final FTE Hajime asks him what would he do if he didn't have his talent. He responds "I'd probably have a normal life. A boring normal life with no hope and no despair". This can show how all he craves in life is normality and the reason he dislikes normal people is because he envies them and wants to be like them because he doesn't want to fear being happy and having friends because of his luck.
2. In DR 2.5 he dreams about being a normal guy with a bit of an unlucky life but it's nothing extreme. He dreams of Fuyuhiko and Soda being his best friends which is SO SWEET AND CUTE AND SAD!! He just wants to be friends with his classmates and he just wants the best for them!
Anyway back to UTDP, if you choose the sitting alone option Hajime will come to you. Nagito is wondering why someone as popular as Hajime was coming to talk to him. He says how the party felt too intense so he came to talk to him. Nagito wonders why he would want to talk to him after everything he said. Hajime says that after all the time they have talked he still feels like he doesn't understand him. Nagito says how there are a lot of things he will probably never understand about him. Hajime says that he doesn't want to end things like that before school ends and that he still wants to keep in touch. He reaches Nagito's hand for a handshake but Nagito holds his hand for a longer period of time (kwjdhsj so cute). Hajime asks him to let go and Nagito asks why. He says that this is a handshake and your supposed to let go after the handshake is done. He asks him if he hold it for longer because he wants to be his friend (damn what a friendzone). Nagito asks if there is a point in being friends and Hajime says that even something as small as that can change things. Nagito accepts and then Hajime invites him to his birthday party with the rest of the class. Nagito agrees and then the interaction ends.

In hope arc we can see how they become friends and Nagito learns how to have a balanced belief in hope that is not chaotic in any way and he learns to appreciate everyone in a normal way. He still keeps his talks and stuff because if he didn't he wouldn't be Nagito but it shows how he has grown from his past mistakes. He is ready to live a normal life with Hajime and everyone else. This is what I call character development.
In conclusion, this ship is amazing and sweet and the character itself is a 10/10. Seriously, I've never been invested in something more than this boy.

The only difference between the two is that there is another layer to a romantic relationship, and that's intimacy. So it's possible that Hajime can start off as Nagito's friend and then the platonic relationship can develop into something more "intimate", which of course is what a romantic relationship is. If you really think about it, a couple is best friends who share a special connection different from others because of that extra layer called intimacy...🤔

I actully think why Nagito said that this was a bad ending is because of 2 reasons:
1. He said that this was bad luck so that when he asked Hajime to be his friend, he wouldnt get rejected. Meaning if this was a good ending (good luck) it would be followed by bad luck being Hajime rejecting Nagito.
2. He thought that this is a sign of bad luck cause he had not been able to escape from his cycle of bad luck and good luck.
He also wanted to be killed for 2 reasons: first being he wanted hope to beat despair. Second being to gain freedom by escaping the cycle of good and bad luck.
