The composition is better in the second one. The colors are nice in the first one. I'd probably add a bit more to the focal point, (like distant mountains and some trees), and then I'd have two fun paintings. 👍
Thanks for your reply that you like the color of the first version and the composition in the second. Ideally I could combine the two and get the best of both! Thanks also for the feedback that you like it when I show two versions (two solutions). You'll find more of these free videos at www.paintwithtrisha.com/courses/free-painting-makeover-videos Two of those videos have two versions!
Tricia your videos are very helpful. I like how you break it down and help analyze the painting process. I love both of your paintings. The first one I was really drawn to the brighter colours. I also liked the composition of the second one, adding the building and trees. Beautiful. Thank you.
I agree, Darla, having a clear focal point like in the second painting makes a much stronger painting. It's interesting how people prefer the warmer colors of the first painting over the cooler colors in the second.
Trisha. Both are great. I like the 2nd one. Because it leads me more into the space. And I like being outdoors. Love that you are doing this. Thanks so much.
I often end up doing just that! Some may wonder how an artist can paint the same scene multiple times, but each time I am trying out new ideas, trying to say something different than before.
I agree with you. I love the color in both versions, but more so in the first. But the composition is more satisfying in the second. Thanks for your feedback!
I agree with Michelle and Phae... the colors in the first version are beautiful, but the composition in the second version is far more interesting. Because I love color I would be tempted to take a toned down bright color from the first version and apply a smidge or two to the second version. I'm not sure it would work though. Amazing how much one can learn in a 10 minute mini lesson! You have me looking everyday for the next one.
You make me want to hug you, haha! Thank you for saying you learned a lot in my 10-minute lesson! I'm trying to put out one a week. It's hard to believe, but it takes a whole day to do one of these. P.S. I would be tempted to combine the two, too.
Agree with Michelle and Phae. I would love to see the second composition with the warmer colors of the first one...Now that you thought us about the focal point, I keep looking for it and in the second version it is a lot more evident with the lines of the lavender field pointing to it. Thanks a lot for this great lesson!
Hi, Luciane. I think you have hit upon the factors in play. I think people like the color in the first version, but the composition of the second one. If these were actual paintings (instead of computer mockups), I would consider painting a third that combined the best of both. 😀
Tricia - Lavender field paintings are one on my favorites. Your first interpretation is vibrant and colorful - one of your trademarks, I'd say. But like many of the viewers here, I do prefer the second one as more interesting and contemplative. I also agree that both are winners - this was a great lesson!
Tricia, so helpful! I love how you are able to explain your composition and color decisions. This was just great! Thank you, thank you! You are a wonderful teacher.
Love your lavender field paintings Trisha! Your lesson is so helpful and insightful. I really can't choose a favorite version...both would make beautiful paintings!
Agree with Phae…the colors in the first version sing, but it’s the composition in the second version that really works and is more interesting. Love these videos BTW-keep them coming! I’m learning so much.
I love the brighter colors of the first version you changed, but the composition of the second version takes the cake. It's far superior. I didn't think you could make that image interesting to paint (I have considered painting it but could not find anything appealing to focus on), but wow, you did it. 🤗
Thanks, Phae. I ADORE lavender fields so I couldn't help going overboard on this on, haha. Thanks for letting me know you prefer the color in the first, but the composition in the second. ❤️
Thank you so much! This kind of video is very inspiring! The 1st one I like the vivid bright color, which caught the eyes right away. The 2nd one is toned down, very nice composition, more content to study and see for a long time. Both are great paintings.
The color in the second version is more true to the color in the reference photo. I've been surprised by how many prefer the color in the first version! Thanks for your comment and for watching!
Hi, Pauline! Yes, I make the edits to the image file I have been sent in PhotoShop. I hear other artists like to use ProCreate, but I already had PS and knew how to use it.... Path of least resistance. 😋
I think I like the 2nd version with the more meaty focal point. Did you make the sky the color of shadow for color harmony rather than make it a different shade of blue?
the first version is definitely better the colors, and the composition too.In the first ,the field really gives the feeling of deepness, while on and the second one the vertical shape cots the deepness
I love the 2nd version with the building and trees in the back! Just wonderful!
The composition is better in the second one. The colors are nice in the first one. I'd probably add a bit more to the focal point, (like distant mountains and some trees), and then I'd have two fun paintings. 👍
I love it when you do two versions! I prefer the colors in the first one and the composition in the second one. Thanks for doing these videos.

Thanks for your vote, Miki -- and the encouragement!
I love the dynamic colors in the first one but I also like the building and trees in the second one. So…I would like a combination of the two.
I often end up doing just that! Some may wonder how an artist can paint the same scene multiple times, but each time I am trying out new ideas, trying to say something different than before.
The painting with the house in it gives the viewer more interest as the eye explores the focal point and lingers there.
I agree, Rae!
I like the warm violet in the 1st but overall the house is more interesting 😊
I agree with you. I love the color in both versions, but more so in the first. But the composition is more satisfying in the second. Thanks for your feedback!
I like the second version because of the focal points added
I agree, Cindy. Seeing the difference between the two versions, with and without the house, really drives home the importance of having a focal point.
Like the addition of the buildings!
Yes, there's more "cheese" at the end of the maze. 👍

I couldn’t agree more and I couldn’t have said it better myself 😊
@@julieknudsen6297 Thanks for your vote, Julie!
I like the second version and really appreciate the critique, extremely helpful!
The preference of the second version underscores how important it is to have focal point. It just so satisfying. Thanks, Judee, for the feedback!
Hi Tricia. I’m now subscribed. In this video, I like both versions. I like how you edit with the paint program. 🙏
Thanks for subscribing, Julia! I agree, seeing the changes is very helpful.

I agree, Christine. The painting is stronger with a definite focal point.
😀
Tricia, so helpful! I love how you are able to explain your composition and color decisions. This was just great! Thank you, thank you! You are a wonderful teacher.
I enjoy doing these "makeovers." They're different than other painting videos and they're bite-sized. 😋
Love your lavender field paintings Trisha! Your lesson is so helpful and insightful. I really can't choose a favorite version...both would make beautiful paintings!
Glad you like the art make-over. It's one thing to talk about art theory, but so useful to see the ideas in real life situations.
I was thinking the same thing as the person below - I prefer the composition in #2 and the colors from #1. As always super helpful! Thank you!
Thanks for your input! I'm seeing a trend here. 😃
Agree with Phae…the colors in the first version sing, but it’s the composition in the second version that really works and is more interesting.

That's interesting that you and Phae both prefer the color in the first one! Thanks for commenting and letting me know you enjoy these videos.
Love your paintings. The first version is my favorite,
Thanks for your vote, Christine! I think I'm noticing a trend. 😏

@@TrishaAdamsArt They were both great. I just happen to like vibrant colors. It was a pleasant exercise in color and composition. More please. 😁
@Phae - mypaintedhut Will do. 👍

Both are fabulous, Trisha - guess I would pick your first version. Thank you so much for all the reasoning you shared with us!
Thanks, Joani, for your vote and for the encouragement! ❤️
I love the first one Trish! I think you've done in on your computer? Looks good!

Hi, Smita. Thanks for your vote! Yes, I tinted the sky color with a bit of the shadow color for color harmony. 😀
I much prefer the second version
Thanks for your vote, Tricia!
