On Feb.16, 2019 I committed ( publicly:)) to at least one drawing a day for a year….I can’t stop 😂 I’m up to 1,813 posts & am having a solo exhibition in July 2022 called the covid chronicle:) very motivating !
I took a 12 year break to raise kids and the partner I had sucked the energy out of me. I came back to it and am doing the best work I have ever done in just training myself for six months at clay sculpture. I was looking for motivation and found your videos at a perfect time so the title of this video is perfect for what I need right now. I am an artist that started on the streets and dumpster diving and ended up figuring out how to advance my skills. I hate that I took that much time out of my life but I'm back and I know art is part of my soul or else I would have never come back to it. I appreciate your videos.
Thanks for watching! I think all that time taken off is not a waste; all of it was you learning and building life experiences and ways of relating that you can bring back into your studio to enrich your work. You've been learning your craft this whole time! -Lauryn, Art Prof Teaching Artist
Interesting thing is that there are a lot of great artists who are actually always motivated and never second guess their work. Were arguing with one recently and he was so surprised I am at a constant state of discouragement about my art. Kind of jelous of those artists who have such a clear idea of what they're doing.
I have to juggle studio time, with work, classwork (design), and family. And not everyone fully grasps how much work, time, and concentration which goes into creating art. What I have done is create a list of studio tasks that fit into short sessions which I post on the wall. So when I enter the studio after work or class without something that I working on that will fit the time provided, I have a permanent list of necessary tasks that keep me involved. I am not always as good about as I could be, but when I am, it does help keep me motivate and connected to the studio and reins in frustration. When I am not good about following the practice, I get angry and frustrated when I don't get as far as I feel I should.
I totally get this! It's wonderful how you organize your studio time, I always go in and hope that I end up doing things. Most of the times it goes well, but sometimes I get stuck - Mia Rozear, Art Prof Staff
Sorry I missed the live stream. Going to enjoy it now.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for all you guys do! Soon I will be connecting closer with you guys. I think I found a great online source for my needs. Keep on keeping on💜
OMG the 50 self portraits look incredible!! i love the texture of them!!
This is a reality great to be discussed. Thank you so much.
Yes, it's an ongoing challenge for all of us! -Prof Lieu
This is so true! I’m enthusiastic about art. As a painter I’m always seeing these paintings in my head but have such a problem getting started! I’ve had a few shows but didn’t sell anything. I teach art part time in the private schools system. I retired from teaching full time and I was going to paint full time. I have more time now and seem to paint less. SMH!
I have been following art prof for a longtime. It is always excellent, and has and is helping me so much.
Thank you for watching!!😊
@@artprof Thankyou Clara, Im a mature Undergraduate, I LOVE your videos - they are not just informational, they are honest, which is refreshing.
This has helped
Me so much. 20 quick drawings ! 50 portraits :0
Just draw. Recycle my terrible 😢 prints .. Rip them up...great tips thanks
You're totally doing it! Amazing :) - Mia Rozear, Art Prof Staff
Today was my first time viewing this. So much of this content is eye opening after the COVID-19 pandemic. Closures of schools, the "busy" that we all were feeling. It's so different now isn't it? I'd love to see reactions to this from Clara. I really enjoy hearing her take on things, and would love to hear how she feels about the sudden change in education in a virtual realm, and the time that frees up for us to work on our own projects.
We’re glad you’re enjoyed the video! Here you can listen to Prof Lieu talk about how to get inspiration during the pandemic: ua-cam.com/video/wX1aEZ7pGkw/v-deo.html Or you can hear from art students and Prof Lieu on their experiences working from home: ua-cam.com/video/46SCI-OBvRI/v-deo.html Thanks for the support and stay safe! - Hema Somaya, Art Prof Staff
the collages with the prints are so cool
I loooove the scratched up collage of the prints you couldn't use. It has such a raw emotion added to it with the transformation!
So glad you think so! - Mia Rozear, Art Prof Staff
Art takes time and persistence !

I think we need a 'support group' for artists. We can introduce like they do in recovery meetings, where they name their addiction/ issue : "Hi, my name is CC, & I'm an artist." At first I was all thrilled with the calling to be an artist. But, like this video discusses, I came to realize, part of my calling to be an artist, (especially with a 'niche' that is not popular everywhere), is learning how to spend my life regularly having the hell beat out of me with rejection & refusing the stress that accompanies no guaranteed income & all the lovely artists stuff like that.... fully support group topics.
Maybe I'll start one. It can be a companion side channel to art prof.
Or it can be like group therapy
:)
You might consider joining our Discord, we have a channel focused specifically on artist wellness, where we provide support for many of these concerns. Invite link: discord.gg/artprof -Prof Lieu
THANK YOU I really needed this! Super burned out from school, work, family, and being pregnant. Struggling to do my class work. But I am trying to finish school for my family so I can work. But spitting out drawings and digital designs each week on a full time school schedule has me loopy. I will try a few of your suggestions to push through.
Imo if you are pregnant and get yourself dressed in the morning, you are a SUPERHERO! I feel you so hard on that, you are wonderful for everything you are doing rn! ❤-Prof Lieu
Love your videos
That makes us so happy!! - Mia, Art Prof Staff
Clara is a true artist. Also she is young, I dont know why she keep saying older days.
Thank you so much for being here. I get a lot of encouragement from you. Wow I relate to what you say. :D
I'm so glad! -Prof Lieu
This is so true .. and I always wonder why my days r boring ! Because am doing what I love ! Am not supposed to be bored from my work , from my practice . And it’s very difficult to explain this to non artistic peoples in family n friends circle .
So so true! It's crazy how fast a hobby you love can turn into a job that drains you :( - Mia Rozear, Art Prof Staff
Take a break to recharge and reflect.
I am artist but paint very slowly tomorrow I am entering a painting in an art show and feel happy to be active again since COVID 10:01
Ooh congratulations, that show sounds amazing!! - Mia, Art Prof Staff
Hi Clara! I was wondering how you made those fabulous self portraits? Did you take pictures because you can't look at a mirror when you're eyes are closed, like in that one drawing?
I worked with a model! The idea was that those portraits were more about the emotions, not just my physical appearance so it made sense to be able to step outside of myself. -Prof Lieu
I'm old enough to remember when my country still had a post office.
That's so interesting! I don't know much about the South African postal system-- it's lovely to see how many places the Art Prof fam can reach :) - Mia, Art Prof Staff
2nd act? Prof Lieu, you are an artist, a writer, a teacher and now an influencer. Wow what else can you do?
Hahahaha ANYTHING is possible! 😂 -Prof Lieu
She's gonna conquer the world and build her own empire
@@neilagangitlog aaaaand I will be one of her minions. Lol
