    As a machinist of 32 years I would not use loctite red, I would use blue. Red will not allow you to break it unless you have a good impact gun. Blue is standard on this job. I've done at least 50 fwd brake jobs. Anyways the fact that you cut the sheilds and no one shows you this, is awesome man. I'm piecing my kit. I got those calipers for 102 a piece. I have a 2015 st2 that defines my life. Hoonigan, in honor of Ken Block. That's why we have this car. Anyway thanks again. My car will be able to stop on a dime and give it back

      yeah most just remove the dust shield, but trimming it is a good touch and allows you to protect the front wheel area from all that dust. I have NEVER used red on any parts of my cars or trucks... if the blue backs out, you either didnt have enough for youve got other issues lol... In fact, on the caliper bolts, ive never used loctite. They have never backed out and since i track my car a few times a year, i swap pads/rotors/wheels/tires each time at the track before racing, so im already inspecting things. But a little blue loctite never hurts for sure

    Thanks for the install walk through. The weights of the calipers and bigger rotors of the RS were surprising to be lighter than the stock ST calipers and rotors. Great video.

    Awesome job. Everyone else has been saying that the wheels have to be changed to work. The 5mm spacer and using my stock wheels is the reason I will do the change. I have a 2018 ST1 with only 7k miles. New tires and wheels are a huge cost to add to a brake upgrade. So now I plan on doing the same upgrade that you did. I travel a lot for work and this is my fun road car.

    Jr's Gasoline Alley, firstly thanks for the tutorial and install, good job! Really good upgrade. could you answer me some quick questions or doubts? I have a Volvo V40, it's the same chassis of the ford focus mk3, but your stock calipers looks the same of mine. it's possible to install this brakes on my V40? the mounting it's the same, plug&play? and other question, your rims are 17'' one's?

    the weight savings is big, i dropped 8lbs per wheel by going with RPF1s (18x9), so these are another 6lbs less in the front on each side...thats considerable. The looks are nice, but where i can personally vouch for the need for good brakes, the ST stock braking system is terrible if you track your car hard or run it on the back roads more than a few consecutive hair pin corners...the single pistons just cant handle the heat and they fade fast.. even with good pads. You can get this set up fairly cheap now and the crazy thing as you stated, theres not much to swap over minus the rotos and brake lines in the front (rear RS and ST are identical).
    good video..and yeah you prob dont need this if you never track your car or really run it hard in the twisties...but if you can get a set for a good deal, do it! While you're there, flush the fluid and get some higher temp brake fluid (like Motul600 or something)...thats your next factory weak point...boiling the brake fluid.

    Just a note for us pre-facelift folks. Ford makes no mention of dust shield interference on the larger rotor if you buy the kit. If you have a 13-14 ST, you will need to order 15+ dust shields. I an unsure if RS shields will bolt to the ST knuckle, but newer ST shields fit as the knuckle is the same 13-18 for the ST.

    Hello there, I have few short questions for you cause I'm thinking about buying STD here in Europe.
    1. Which 5mm spacers do you use and does it need changing bolts, do they need be longer for that 5mm spacer? I will probably run ST wheels as winter setup.
    2. Do you have to do something about oil pump or something like that when changing from OE to Brembo brake calipers? I mean, do you have enough braking fluid in system?
    3. Is there any problem in clearance except cutting that heat shield?
    4. Plug 'n play? 😁
    Thank you. 🙂

    • @JrsGasolineAlley
      @JrsGasolineAlley  4 роки тому +1

      1, no need for different bolts. Use the spacers linked in the description.
      2, the master cylinder is the same on a RS and ST so no issues with this vs the original brake caliper
      3, only mod needed is the heat shield.
      4, yes plug and play

    interesting that you mention the unsprung weight affecting the suspension. given that the weight isnt technically "suspended" does it affect the suspension. I'm all for saving weight but just wondered if you had considered that. Great video either way though dude. The calipers look amazing.

    • @JrsGasolineAlley
      @JrsGasolineAlley  3 роки тому +1

      How is it not technically "unsprung weight"? A brake caliperr is on the suspension so it is for sure unsprung weight, just the same as the hub, the wheel, the tire, or in short everything not a part of the suspended chassis.

    When i do my RS brake upgrade I’m doing RS knuckles and adding the Ford Performance gloss black standard 18’/19’ RS wheels..or see if i can find an aftermarket wheel that’s lighter...not sure yet

    • @jessebudelman
      @jessebudelman 4 роки тому

      Taken from Damond motorsports page.
      New knuckles on our shop Focus ST, borrowed from the Focus RS. Left is ST vs Right is RS. Lots of minor improvements in better suspension geometry, resulting in improved handling and steering. The hub center is moved upward from the lower ball joint mount. This allows for a major improvement in roll center. The lower ball joint mount is also moved forward more of the hub center. This adds caster. The mounting point for the steering tie rods is shortened. This results in quicker steering. The steering rod mount point is slightly lower compared to the hub center. This means less bump steer when lowered. The knuckle shaves a bit of weight in that little excess casting material is found, about 1lbs each. There’s also a tiny bit of negative camber added as well. When you’ll be going up against Civic Type R’s, any little bit helps. If you’re looking to make your ST or RS into a handling machine, feel free to hit us up! #damond #damondmotorsports #tracktested #tracktesteddrivertrusted #fastishard #fordfocusrs #focusrs #fors #fordrs #ecoboostrs #fordfocus #fordfocusst #focusst #fost #fordst #ecoboostst #ford #fordperformance #ecoboost #suspension #suspensiongeometry #knuckles @ Damond Motorsports

    One question, did you notice anything regarding the brake bias? Since you got bigger brakes on front but left the rear ones stock.

    • @JrsGasolineAlley
      @JrsGasolineAlley  3 роки тому +3

      Same master cylinder, same hydraulic volume so the brake bias and power will be the same. This gives higher heat resistance, better brake feel, increased friction coefficient with larger pads. Also you can just swap caliper carriers and go larger on the back too.

    • @dham99
      @dham99 Рік тому

      what people do is they buy the Mazda5 rear caliper bracket (C2Y6-26-28XA if i recall) and then can fit the slightly larger RS rotor...same pads, brake lines, etc so no need to swap those parts.
