    Hmmm memories this brings back nostalgic feelings . I spent a huge part of my life in Ajegunle before leaving Nigeria.If only you turned right before turning into Ezeagu street, I would have seen the house I was born and lived first few years of my life . I grew up in Ajegunle, Pry school CKS and Ajeromi Ifelodun High School (Sinclair). Thanks bro for making these videos , even tho I haven't been back to Nigeria in over 12 years, watching this just make me wanna walk thru those streets again .

    I don't think this is chaos. But I'm from New York City with family from the Caribbean. I feel this is ultra-gritty in areas and I would just like to see more efficiency, maintenance and cleanliness. Also, I have to think there is a lot of pollution going on from the vehicles and there's a lot of horn-blowing noise pollution. There is a lot of good feeling I get watching this but also I know Nigeria can be so, so much better. This is an amazing tour, it's like I'm right there on the motorbike with you. Thank you.

    I wonder if they are aware of the dangers of such heavy traffic remaining stationary on an old fly-over bridge? There are other under-used seaports in Calabar, Port Harcourt, Warri, Akwa Ibom, Onne and etc, but they want to fully exploit the corruption which comes with the congested Apapa Port. Very backward thinking by retrogressive people.

    • @Ludo_Liu
      @Ludo_Liu  3 роки тому +7

      that s true that the other port should be developed too , so many things are centralized in very few cities ...
      decentralisation can have a very positive aspect on the congested cities like lagos

    • @easyware
      @easyware 3 роки тому +2

      I remember one politician was supposed to have been paid a lot of money to dredge Calabar ports for this reason, but he seems to have pocketed the money and not done the job... and no one is doing anything about it!

    • @chimaezeenwerem5035
      @chimaezeenwerem5035 3 роки тому +2

      Onne sea is not under-used, infact it has the highest cargo traffic and more throughput than both Apapa and Tincan ports, why, because they is a concessioned agreement for Atiku's Intel company to operate it for mostly the export of crude oil and LNG and import of refined crude oil, so as long as it is crude oil that is what matters, other seaports along the Eastern Corridors of Nigeria do not matter to the Nigeria/Zoo govt as they suffer negligence and lack of dredging. Delta/Warri, Edo, Calabar and Rivers sea ports are in desperate need of dredging for larger ships to berth but because of the Northern Mafia that has monopoly over the customs agency and their stronghold and extreme money made in the Lagos sea ports shortly after the civil war they is the fear that opening other sea ports in the Eastern corridors will dwindle and reduce their monies from Lagos sea ports.

    Another incredible adventure of people, sights and sounds! I could ride with you all day only stopping to eat and use the restroom. Kudos once again to you for taking me deep into the non-touristy side of Lagos Nigeria. Once again I felt as though I could reach out and touch the people and experience what it's like to live there on the daily grind. It's makes me more appreciative and grateful to God Most High for my abundance and at the same time saddened for their lack. Or to be honest, maybe I am saddened because the citizens of Apapa Ajegunle seem to be more happy with the little they have than I am with the plenty I have. I noticed there were only a few people wearing face masks and there was no social distancing. I suppose it is not a big concern in Lagos Nigeria. You have my deepest appreciation for the risks you take to bring me in close to the country's heartbeat.

      @@Ludo_Liu Three things I like about your videos:
      1. Your mode of filming via motorbike or boat depending on location. Which gives the viewer a more immersive feel.
      2. You leave videos with the original recorded sounds.
      3. You attempt to show the real areas of the cities, where everyday people go about their affairs.
      To many similar types of videos on UA-cam are focused on showcasing a very narrow spectrum of African cities. That boarders on either two extremes. The wealthy areas or areas of extreme poverty.

    Firstly, thanks ever so much for this & for holding to your promise!!! 😁 Really nostalgic! Ajegunle seems less of a slum than some of the other places you've been, & with better roads (though still littered, congested, & some backstreets are still sadly terribly neglected). Malu Rd is disgraceful & worse than I recall it (& it was BAAAD then)!
    The parked tankers on the bridge heading to Apapa are Lagos's second biggest disgrace after Makoko floating slum...unbelievable! How a government can allow that is beyond me! Heard of it but crazy seeing it!!!😡🤬
    Let me clarify a few things Ludo, because there are innacuracies on Google map.
    1. There is Apapa where you have the port and the amusement park etc.
    2. There is GRA Apapa where you have the Apapa Club and Corona School etc.
    These are NOT where you went, so using "Apapa" is inaccurate & misleading but not your fault👍🏾.
    3. There is Olodi-Apapa which is where Bale 'Street' is, & leads both to Boundary Market or Kirikiri Rd depending on where you're headed.
    4. Then there is Ajegunle, Ajeromi, & a little pocket area called 'Tolu'.
    Olodi-Apapa, Ajegunle, Ajeromi, and Tolu are not in Apapa & are all often bundled up into the pot of "Ajegunle".
    Olodi-Apapa is actually aptly named because from Bale St (heading towards Boundary) you can cross the canal to GRA Apapa (disembarking on Marine Road - "Waterside" better known as 'worasai-worasai'🤣) by a 2-3minute Canoe ride.
    How do I know this? I've proudly lived in Apapa, GRA Apapa, & the infamously famous Ajegunle (Olodi-Apapa - on Bale Street between Boundary & Kirikiri Rd). I searched desperately for our house at the time on Bale St but to no avail 😔...I think you did Bale Road instead.👍🏾
    Thanks again, & looking forward to Apapa proper, if you can squeeze past the tanks🙄!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏾

      About the explanations on the map and exacts names of the locations, thanks again, cause that's true that for me the limits between these different areas was not so clear has i wasn't born or grown here. I will definitively squeeze in between the trucks again, to reach Apapa, and shoot around amusement park, tin can island etc...

    I appreciate you making videos like this showing Nigeria, Lagos but you keep making emphasis on the smell and population which is kinda strange judging by your name I'll think you're Asian possibly Chinese which is one of the most populous nation with lots of people flocking around and the smell in some part of Chinese can be overwhelming too speaking from experience so I'm guessing you would be familiar with scenes like that rather than being judgemental but I apologize if I got your intro wrong. Furthermore, I notice foreigners are always eager to show the slums of Africa or the bad images which again I find weird, I mean I don't go to China or India and show the slums cos I want to show the beauty of these nations but it's like foreigners are excited to always show the "not so pleasing" images of us. I believe Africa should be shown from the lens of Africans while we leave this type of videos for foreigners, we need to show people that Africa is not just made up of slums, jungle and salvages. I hope you show the "not smelly, not crowded and not slummy" part of Lagos.

    Nigeria... back in 1950 population was below 40million. Now... In 2021 population is over 210 million. Predictions say the population will reach 400million in 2050!!!!
    It's more people than in the USA and Canada together. More than in the entire European Union. And this is only one African country! The density will shrink by half.. which means there will be twice as many people living in the places we can see in 2050. Looking at those pictures I am really worried about future generations.

    Men, kudos to you my man. You doing fantastically good with your videos. But i must say that i'm so disappointed that several years after i left 🇳🇬 nothing seem to have changed. The infrastructure i see in your video is a MESS. Gad dem, the govt ain't doing a gaddem thing to help the people. Just take a look at the streets so filthy, take a look at the shelter my fellow citizens reside with the environment, it is absolutely appalling. I am disgusted and shocked that Nigeria in 2021 could still be Nigeria of 1970's. Holly Lord come to Nigeria's Aid.

    This is so amazing!!! Thanks for taking me to my childhood and where I grew up, the memories all come rushing back to me now. I left Ajegunle just after my secondary school ended. Boundary market was where my mom had her shop. I even hawked cold water in the market every day after school 😀 just somewhere behind Tolu junction is street where we lived called Asalu. This is all so emotional for me. Its been almost 33 years since I left this place and seems nothing has changed, well except for the road, its tiled now so that's good. But the trash everywhere noise from roadside medicine sellers..the traffic is something I don't think will change. I guess that's what makes this Apapa Ajegunle unique. I hope to go back there someday, especially would like to visit my secondary school..it's called Mokoya high school in Apapa area. Have some friends who probably still live in Ajegunle. I just dreaming, for now gonna watch it again with my kids and share this experience with them. Thanks for making my day

    Your videos are very cinematic. The placing of the camera on the front of your motorbike gives us a feeling that we are on the ride with you. Believe me, am terrified and holding onto my seat when you squeeze through the narrow streets avoiding people, buses, cars, trucks, you name it as everything is on the streets all the time. People have very little care as they are accustomed to this custom but for me looking on, it's terrifying. Excellent job.

    I really enjoy your videos This is the second one I have watched. Nigerians, and all other Africans, appear to be very hard working and industrious. Too many of them have to strive on their own against all kinds of obstacles to make it through the day. I am not an economist but I hope that the leaders can find some way to harness that talent. Government cannot fix all the issues but the right policies can go a long way to get the citizenry involved in the betterment of their lives and the development of their country. I am in the USA where capitalism rules although with problems. The ingenuity of immigrants here is what keeps this place going. I am not espousing any political system - just anything for the betterment of mankind. I have faith in Africa( its countries)and I know that they will get there.

    • @Tugalukeni
      @Tugalukeni 3 роки тому +1

      @@Ludo_Liu kibera is way less than a kilometer squared I grew up a walking distance from kibera. About congestion in Lagos, the government should buy a football field size or more strip of land along both sides of roads especially heavily congested roads sides areas and turn them into recreational green zones, parks,gardens, highrise apartments, markets, parking, cafes, bars, restaurants, sports centres etc. These areas should be paved with pedestrians walkways, etc and becomes Lagos lungs/green areas. These green areas should be creatively designed with greenary and aethestic in mind. They should then be rented back to the community to run their small business. The compensated land owners should be able to relocate to eco city if they so wish due to their fair compensation. Where possible big areas be turned into parks. This area should now became the party and dine sports among others. A lot of plants, trees, shrubs, welding, glass and recycled clear and coloured plastic roofs sheets, brickworks must be used for structure construction. It must be eco friendly design place in short. People should also plant trees everywhere possible. This can help turn Lagos into a green city due to now these green zones snaking all across the entire city. I find this plan more cost effective than moving an entire city. The affected land owners should volunteer these needed land patriotically since the people health and life can be greatly improved by such action. I love Lagos it my favourite city but we can't praise mediocrity. We can never give up. The people of Lagos make it number one as always.

    So do these people live where their home made shops are at such as in the most populated city? Like Nwanmah Street. Or do they sleep somewhere else at night time?

    • @Ludo_Liu
      @Ludo_Liu  3 роки тому

      most of them have a home somewhere around, i would say. but the best way should be to ask the owners of this "shops"to answer

    Again from Montgomery Alabama...... This time around, watching with my beautiful wife. I grew up in all these areas.. Oworosoki, Bariga, lagos island. Kirikiri just name it... Etc. Ikeja... I appreciate you indeed for the contents. But it breaks my heart for the obvious reasons.... Nigeria is gon be a destination for mockery..... It is well. I am just shot of words and dumbfounded. Deep sigh..... Hmmmmmmmmmn

    What I don't understand is how Africa and Latin America are such backward places and with immense populations living a subhuman life !!! I am Brazilian and I live in Rio de Janeiro, which is a city crap, nothing like Lagos. Now, both in Nigeria and in Brazil, they are corrupt and thieving governments that do nothing for the miserable and suffering population of these places. The United States speaks of authoritarian governments in Russia and China, and speaks a lot about democracy. Well, Brazil and Nigeria are countries in democratic thesis and their populations infinitely poorer than the Russian or Chinese population. In China, an authoritarian state has lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty. In Brazil, a democratic regime further deepened poverty and the country's immense backwardness. Political labels matter little! The important thing is for a government to be efficient and competent for its population. More than half of the world population lives in shit and poverty, but this is of little interest to North Americans who think they own the world!

      @@Ludo_Liu I thought that would be the case. In your videos I see so much joyful energy amid what we in the west would consider impoverishment. I've been to South Africa, Egypt and Morocco but never the areas you document. I am too old now for adventurous travel (81) and so I have your videos by way of compensation. Thank you.
