Yesterday I prayed to understand this chapter, mostly about the thief! I had been reading it for weeks and assumed it was about the enemy being the robber and thief, but It still didn't feel right! Great expounding! I also liked that Dr. Keener pointed out that the devil does in fact kill, steal, and destroy.
Yet in the context, as Dr. Keener illustrated, the "thief" is a false teacher.

I think this here is only the 2nd time I've disagreed with you among the inneumerable lessons you're taught.
Yes, beginning even in John 9 as you point out, the thief of John 10 passage is mostly about spirirual leaders who've become so of personal ambition, selfish motives. But applying such as the Hebraic PaRDeS and its multi-layer implications, I personally believe John 10:10 is in fact referring to the spiritual force behind the erroneous " hirelings," i.e. the devil per se; it being a verse parenthetical to the overall context you emphasize.
And it truly pains me to disagree, my having such great respect and thankfulness for you.

Thank you so much for sharing this truth. I learned this about a year ago, until then I was taught and believed that the theif was the devil. But like you explained by rightly dividing and understanding this in its context it's clear to see that the Pharisees and false leaders of that day were the theif. Just like the false pastors and leaders of our day are the thief mentioned in John 10:10. God bless you and I pray that you continue to bring clarity to God's Word.
