    Think of all the hundreds of thousands worldwide who have tried miserably to imitate Elvis. This kid Austin comes out of nowhere and totally nails it, the look, voice, movements, confidence, and even stage presence. It's kind of odd, like Elvis's spirit gave his approval.

    • @somesweetsenorita
      @somesweetsenorita Рік тому +31

      Acting is a craft, an art, it is not imitation, it‘s not spooky, he prepared two years for the role, it was obviously a lot of work. Just the comparison to imitators is actually a sign of underestimation of true actors. Sorry to say so, no offence.

      @@somesweetsenorita No offense taken. I don't mean to underestimate the young man's acting ability, but I think it's you who underestimates Elvis's uniqueness. A few talented actors have tried to copy Elvis before and they all fell short. Many of those impersonators have spent their whole life trying and the best one gets payed to do in Vegas. I'm just saying it's odd.

      Austin totally missed on Elvis’ facial expressions. He always looks angry and Elvis NEVER looked angry. Elvis had a mischiefull look, a playfull look, a tender look. NEVER angry. Too bad this director told Austin to do it like this. Austin WOULD have nailed it if he did Elvis’ correct facial expressions.

    • @brucebaird1982
      @brucebaird1982 Рік тому +23

      @@anacostabrazil I agree with you that's how he was, but that's also what Elvis wanted to portrait to the public. He was also very funny. Keep in mind that the movie mainly focuses on the most key moments in his life and career, major decisions he had to make or deal with almost immediately. I'm sure Elvis wasn't smiling when he told Priscilla that no one would remember him in 10 years.

    Having been an Elvis fan all my life, due to my dear old Mum who adored him, I went to see the film with an air of trepidation and a deeply protective feeling over a man I've always loved. I came away an emotional mess! It was phenomenal. Days later and it's still on my mind. Austin Butler is absolutely mesmerising in his portrayal. He has managed to completely embody him, throughout all 3 decades of 'Elvis'. I've seen many tribute acts and shows over the years and if they are potraying different stages in his life, it's always been different actors. So for this young man to do them all and so brilliantly is just amazing. If he doesn't get an Oscar for this role, there is no justice in the world.

As someone born so after Elvis’s legacy and only getting to know and admire him for his whole artistry, it was so interesting to know there was that very real part of pop culture where Elvis experienced his fall from grace and public opinion. You all really need to watch the HBO doc titled Elvis The Searcher . It is a much fuller look at who Elvis was, and what he was battling with, to stay relevant. The music world was passing him by when Elvis was stuck in Las Vegas under contract. The HBO doc is narrated by all the peeps who were THERE, including Priscilla, Jerry Schilling (his bodyguard and probably his best friend), Steve Binder and Bones Howe (the director and producer of his "68 special) Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. Hanks was right, Col. Tom Parker locked Elvis in a box, which prevented him from evolving with the the music world.roducer of the '68 special.

      I was 26 years old when Elvis died, and I pretty much share Tom Hank’s impression of him. I found his Las Vegas persona somewhat embarrassing and distasteful compared to his early years. The King of Rock and Roll had become a parody of himself, and his fawning entourage, the Memphis Mafia, seemed to enable him. Even so, when I review his overall career and body of work, I appreciate his greatness. Sure there was some cultural appropriation, but Elvis put his own unique personality into his performances, and there was that very distinctive voice, which sounded like no other human being, before or since. Seen the movie today & when Austin gets his hair shaved in the army scene & looks towards the camera, that's Elvis. He certainly got the moves down pat too & the voice. I really couldn't imagine him playing the king that well but he gave a phenomenal performance. I noticed Austin's eyes, they were beautiful just like Elvis'. Also love Tom Hanks & here he is again giving a top rate performance as the colonel, wow, he was unbelievable, well, what else can we expect from Tom as his decades of great movies say it all, always thought he is a talented actor. I think both of them should be nominated & either can win. Great movie Baz.

    I was 13 when Elvis passed away. He was my era. I loved his music and I remember the controvery of his 'moves' which were banned on our black and white television. The movie evoked in me raw emotion. I knew every word to every song. What I didn't know as a teenager, was his true story and the people who took advantage of him. And so the movie brought intense sadness to me. I feel these two actors deserve academy awards. This movie was epic.

My family would often hang outside Graceland waiting to get a glimpse of him. He gave away a lot of Cadillacs lol. This movie made my heart so tight. Sadness & joy. Tom Hanks is older than me but his description of Elvis doesn't mirror mine whatsoever! I loved the Elvis movies. I loved Elvis in fact when I was seven and Elvis married Pricilla I was bummed! I also remember watching his show in black leather, he was gorgeous! For a little girl he looked like a God! The day he died I was 17 and it's like an event you never forget where you were and what you were doing when you heard it for it stopped me in my tracks! I now have just watched the movie Elvis with Austin Butler & Tom Hanks and saw a completely different side of Elvis and his relationship with Colonel Tom Parker which I knew nothing about. Austin Butler was so good as Elvis that at times I thought I was watching Elvis. Since I never knew much about Colonel Tom Paker I don't know much about him except what was portrayed in the movie by Tom Hanks. If he was like this movie portrayal I think he was an opportunist & Elvis would've been famous no matter who his manager was but I resent that Colonel Parker made so much money off Elvis & then had the audacity to try to bankrupt him. There's not been an entertainer since Elvis that gives me the butterflies like Elvis did. Maybe because I was so young and impressionable. Regardless, I think Elvis was the greatest entertainer ever and this movie is a can't miss if you're an Elvis fan!

He nailed it as the snowman and Butler as Elvis the showman, brilliant.

Tom Parker locked Elvis in a box, which prevented him from evolving with the the music world.

      @@nula14 It's my opinion. It really isn't about critical thinking skills. I know you are bothered by my opinion but I don't know why you care. I also know that telling me I lack critical thinking skills is what you are using to try to insult me because you have no real argument - because it's my opinion.

      @@heidiblake7957 Let's get one thing straight: You're calling Tom Hanks a "creep for having that opinion". So, it is quite clear that you are the one who is insulting and you are the one who doesn't have a real argument. You'd like people to respect your opinion but you're not respecting his opinion (which is, I might add, not even his *current* opinion!).
      I'm not trying to insult you. I'm trying to tell you how silly it is to be upset about guy saying that he didn't care about Elvis when he was a kid. Obviously, Tom Hanks is quite impressed with Elvis now. But you seem to have missed that fact. At the time of Elvis's comeback special, Tom Hanks was 12 years old. So, essentially, you're angry with a 12 year old (or even younger) for not having your taste in music. So, yes, you're lacking critical thinking skills. Just because you have an "opinion" doesn't mean that people won't tell you that your opinion is based on a very wobbly understanding of facts.

    Hearing Tom Hanks talk about his experience with Elvis growing up made me sad because that was the general perspective in the late 60s-early 70s by young boomers. Elvis was aware of it at the time and I believe it led him to a lot of his behaviors that caused his demise..

    I have to say job well done! to Austin Butler Bravo!! My husband mentioned the movie to me the day before we were going to see the movie. I said WHAT! the movie is about Elvis Presley's life? My hubby said yes his life and what we did not know about him. I said Yes!! sure lets go. We did not regret at all. Elvis music and the reincarnation of his life, Austin did Fantastic and Tom Hanks as well. It is a must see if you are a fan of Elvis back in the days you won't be disappointed. Finally a great movie I was able to really enjoy it's been a long time.
