What your mum said..."Go with passion, and confidence in yourself." That made me cry a bit. I made the decision recently to save hard, and once I had enough, quit my job and go walk the Te Araroa. My mum said she loved the idea too. Thank you for sharing your journey in such a beautiful and artistic way, it's made me even more certain that I'm going the right way.
Just put a fake 20 minute meeting in my calendar to watch this before lunchtime! I'm doing the SI NOBO early next year and am PUMPED!! thanks for the inspiration mate :)
Elina, you capture the whole spectrum of experiences so well with your film making... the mood swings, the people, the views, the sensations you get from the views, self-reflection... I absolutely love it. It's such captivating content
“I can see myself.” “I can see MYself” - so much more meaning than those two kids realize. Elina, from a dark basement in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, you made my treadmill run so much better. Thank you.
What an awesome tribute to your mum, Elina! She and all of us are so proud of your adventures and how you so perfectly articulate them. The good, the bad, the peaceful and the more full on. I am dying to get my hands on the rest of this series.
Yeeeeew! You beauty Elinda 😜 So bloody excited to see your magic rolling out, and, ya know, more than a trifle delighted to make an appearance. Kids so stoked! Love ya beauty xx
Oh my gosh, this almost made me cry. I did some hiking in NZ in my early 20s and now I'm close to 40, married with kids, job, obligations and Lockdown looming behind every breath exhaled. It's been TOO LONG since I've been able to be out on any trail. Can't wait to take my boys out. Elina, thx for reminding me that the world is still beautiful and worth exploring despite everything going on. Take care.
after watching you PCT series, I’m sooooo looking forward to this series, and it’s slaking my TA thirst until my late November TA start. Just from this one episode it’s clear how you’ve developed as a filmmaker too. The flow and pace are great, and I love the inclusion of the almost-outtakes. The narrative is very natural and in a style that you’re making your own. Nicely shot, well considered, and continuing in the “he tangata” focus you established in your PCT doco. Bring on the rest of it, I’ll be waiting for the UA-cam notifications.
The first thruhiking videos I ever watched were your PCT series, which opened my eyes to a whole world I hadn't known existed. I'm now off to do the TA SI NOBO in February, and it's a good deal due to you - so thanks!
This video is absolutely beautiful, Elina! Your country looks stunning, the people seem so full of life and positive, and I only dream to complete this trail myself! Can't wait for the rest of this adventure of yours! :) You've got the best backpacking content on YT, your storytelling is second to none! You should do the length of Britain - John O'Groats to Land's End! (or the other way round - which is more common) It isn't a set trail of sorts, but rather using other smaller trails to get from either end. I did it in 2017, N to S, along the North Scottish coast, through the Scottish Highlands on the Cape Wrath Trail, the West Highland Way, through Glasgow and joining onto the Pennine Way, then looping round with the Macmillan Way, eventually finishing with the South West Coastpath. Was 1,450 miles for me. It'd be so different, and our British weather always takes the piss! xD
THIS! I, and the World perhaps, have needed this so desperately, longed to live vicariously through your adventures again, ached to be immersed in the beauty, the cinematography, the richness of your storytelling, the essence of the moments captured and presented so genuinely. Why am I suddenly craving peanut butter!??
I have to apologize to miss Osborne for waiting this much for finally watching Chapter 1 & 2 of this masterpiece, thank you, as always for living and telling experiences on behalf of all of us that can’t, we salute you
Your videos are so zen - your voice- your insight into it all and the photography captured are just so calming for the soul. Like forest bathing from home. Looking so forward to experiencing this from the other side of the world.
So happy I found your videos! My brother leaves in 4 days from the US to hike the Te Araroa solo. This makes me happy knowing what an amazing experience he has ahead of him as well as the amazing people he will meet along the way. So happy to have been able to follow your journey. I hope he meets some wonderful trail angels and stays healthy and safe! ❤
Beautiful Elina! You capture the wairua (spirit) of the land and it’s people. The narrative of your journey through it and yourself is a delight. Keep going with the unfaceable mountain of a mission that is editing. Like eating an elephant…. One bite at a time. Thank you for your gift today. Arohanui
Ive heard of the trail but never knew it was so popular! After hitting a wall and wanting to do more with my life, my name was nominated to go on hiking adventure which involves walking 6 parts of the trail and after a bit of research I came across your you tube channel! Chapter 1 has been a great watch and your style is epic! Im really looking foward to watching the rest and seeing just what im in for! Live life not by the book because when you get older you can always write your own
Been looking forward to this one, but need to save it until after work! Well, maybe I can watch it in my lunch break, or maybe with mid-morning coffee. Yup, that sounds like a plan...
I just got to watch this finally. My 5 month old stopped playing to watch this as well and smiled so much when you talk to the camera and when the Noodles for Breakfast appeared 😊.
Hi Elina… I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time. I just love your blend of storytelling, interesting people and lifestyles, music, stunning scenery, quotes… the whole package is wonderful. So nice to see your Mom in this vid… very touching. Thank-you for this, and I cannot wait for chapter 2!! 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary🏊♀️
Well that was ENTIRELY worth the wait. Your videos are so amazing. Meaningful, powerful, surprising at times, just thoroughly enjoyable and yet educational also. Can’t wait for more. Thank you for sharing.
the long awaited chapters begin! such amazing story telling and videography Elina, thank you for taking your time to edit your experience and share it with the world!
What an awesome start to the series. I love your perspectives expressed along the way, especially the slightly random ones. One of the best things about travelling alone is that you tend to meet some delightful people who are happy to welcome you and talk openly simply because you are alone. As a tramper from the days when the term 'thru hiking' hadn't been invented and a long distance tramp was a 3 week bush bash, clamber and wallow or a more gentle amble along some of what are now our 'Great Walks', I understand some of the pain, discomfort, frustrations and the ultimate joys you will be sharing. And I do like long walks on the beach. That one, however is a little more! Beaches are not flat. Facial exfoliation is better done by my cat's tongue. You are doing a wonderful job of processing and editing your videos. Thank you. And I promise not to make such long comments in future
Totally not into hiking...but I am into meeting people, and hearing about their stories, and sage advice from Ahbi(?) This is beautiful. Never forget to look up!!
absoulutley LOVED the pacing of the video! The slow & more fast paced scenes intermixed make me feel like I'm actually there! Such a beautiful and authentic way to represent hiking! Elina, you freaking rock!
Absolutely amazing. You are so talented. I love all of your cinematic shots and commentary. Also I love how you include interviews with the people you came across. I am thrilled for chapter 2!💕
I love all your videos so much Elina! Thank you for putting so much time, carrying all that gear and creating such a stunning art work! I've been thinking so many years about the PCT and the TA and I really appreciate your videos. To my biggest surprise was that you met and filmed Abhi! The things he talks about are super cool, I'm practicing them myself and I hope one day you have the chance to go back and meet the rest of this amazing group of people! The temple project and property outside Aukland is just absolutely fabulous! Looking forward to Chapter two! :)
I can't tell you enough how much I enjoy your videos. Your filming skills, editing.. your personality.. those little interviews.. Amazing! You are such an inspiration. Not just as a great adventurer but also as a wonderful filmmaker. Looking forward to Chapter 2. Greetings from England ♥️
I really like how you let the people you meet speak for theimselves, but also how the y tell the story of Te Araroa. I really want to do it myselve some day.
ahh buzzing, so excited to watch your TA series 🤩 I've decided to postpone my thru-hike of TA until next year, hopefully there'll be no more lockdowns then 🤞 in the mean time I'll be obsessively watching your TA series and planning for 22/23!
After a decade of armchair tramping you and Carrot are the only ones still active and this was like a breath of fresh kama. Thank you! Some day, perhaps soon, I'll cease working for hire and experience what Abhi's exhortation includes, on the trail, alone with my thoughts. namaste
Sitting here on my birthday, crying because I'm alone and just recently broke up from a 5 year relationship, looking for a job seemingly hopeless. But at least I can dream that I will do this one day. Thank you for the distraction and the beauty of this video 🏞️
Lovely first chapter, really felt the story & the feelings you had through the video. I have been backpacking NZ in 2009/10 & I am really looking forward to remotely relive certain places through your work. Thanks Elina for the inspiration & flashbacks. Greetings from Germany!
What your mum said..."Go with passion, and confidence in yourself." That made me cry a bit. I made the decision recently to save hard, and once I had enough, quit my job and go walk the Te Araroa. George, ya legend.
So good!
SI? As in the Sentiero Italia? Will you make youtube vids too and can I follow?
18:43 "Because, nothing" - I love this so much.
Ohhh yes! Only by watching this video I now know how much I have already longed for this series. Thank you so much for taking us with you!
Is Elina a filmmaker or is she a poet?
So freaking excited that this is finally out!! I now have something to click on with no hesitation!
:')
Exactly , what im gonna say ! thanks karam
Such a wonderful storyteller. I love the music, the shots, the cuts.
You’re so good at this!!! 😍
Elina is a film maker, a poet, a philosopher, an adventuress, a Kiwi, and so much more! 😊 💖 🙆🏻♀️ 🌿 👍🏾
Elina, you capture the whole spectrum of experiences so well with your film making... the mood swings, the people, the views, the sensations you get from the views, self-reflection... I absolutely love it. It's such captivating content

You sweet angel :')

You are the best storyteller/filmmaker in all of UA-cam land. I just can’t help but smile from ear to ear watching your story. Thank you for that. 😁

Holy moly Elina the way you've captured this experience is beyond incredible, I'm so looking forward to watching more of this series! Thank you

I love Abhi. What a chill dude
That was such a sweet goodbye with your parents. Choked me up. Made me miss my family. But you soon had me laughing.
