The rugged terrain of the Mojave desert can be hazardous to bare feet especially when chollas cactus thorns liter the ground. While many native peoples spent their days barefoot the art and use of primitive sandals allowed a painless voyage to more hostile environments such as rocky mountain peaks. In this video I collect the green leaves of the Mojave yucca (Yucca schidigera) and weave a pair of durable and very comfortable sandals complete with yucca laces and then wear the plaited yucca sandals to hike up a rugged mountain.

I usually don't do anything. The immune system takes care of the problem. Once I had a puss-filled infection in my finger and I just used a yucca thorn to drain it and then I applied yerba mansa root that I had dug up and chewed into a poultice.
Aloe vera barbadensis is good for wounds and burns. The jelly of the plant.

Chad, we always beat the leaves with a heavy stick or rock against another rock to break up the fibers to get the strands out before we rock roll it
I do that too usually. It really helps to loosen the fibers. I just didn't need that much for this project but I should have done it anyway.

Often I just peel the nails after I've been in the water a while. They get soft then. Also, when I work with mud and clay the work actually files down the nails.
Would it work if I used flax?
