    Interesting practice even if I never have a need for tire modifications.

    Siping is actually to grab snow. It picks up snow, and snow-to-snow contact makes you stop or go faster. They also increase your surface area as they spread out under load.

      I'm aware, and maybe I skipped saying that in the final video.. The siping also helps disperse heat more evenly across the tread lugs, which helps prolong the tire life and helps it run cooler

    I have many hours siping tires on my semi and what worked best for me is let the cutting head sit on the tire block a second or two to heat up the tire block before pushing through. I also had a mini diamond sharpening hone about 3"X1" that I would use to touch up cutting edge.

      I was using a 500 watt halogen work light to warm the tire up as I worked my way around it with an older tool.

    Siping actually displaces the heat to make them last longer we do this to our asphalt circle track slicks yo displace heat in long 100 lap plus races so they last longer which means one less pit stop. We also sip and groove dirt track tires as well different sipes patterns will make the tire do different things heat wise and affect the car. And grooving just gives you more bite off the center of the corner

      I've read about the heat dissipation in a magazine before. It's tires start getting weather checked before they start going bald lol. I've tried explaining the longer mileage thing I've read to some other people. I'm glad to hear from someone who has actual experience with it.

    How was the road noise of these tires before grooving

      They're actually pretty quiet for an aggressive mud tire. Grooving them didn't really change it either. I'd say sound is closer to that of an all terrain

    Do you need to balance the tire afterwards?

    • @boebr1
      @boebr1  Рік тому +1

      If you are grooving it and removing rubber, it would be a good idea to get them balanced. if you are only cutting sipes into the tread, you shouldn't need to

    Someone 0:13 I know who swears by siping tires, does the whole tire except the inside and outside treads. Makes sense but i will try and see if it works well.
