Jake is the best kind of villain, the kind that understands his place in the story and that if you want to live to see tomorrow you have to play by the rules.

But instead of shrinking away and protecting himself as he did in the previous scenes with Jack (before meeting the Spirit of the West), he RUSHED TO PROTECT BEANS. Such a tiny little detail, but it adds so much depth to the characters ToT

Can we just talk about how amazing Jake is character design wise? Like every fucking time he's on screen, I just get chills, he's got such an intimidating prescence that I really can't begin to describe. His size and the way he presents himself, and how he just gives off this feeling I've not felt from many characters these days, combine with his amazing sound design (the rattles from his tail as he moves, the way his gun belt sounds, the weight of his movements conveyed through sound) is just something you don't hear these days. Beautifully done, really.

@@frds_skce I mean, there's a good bit more realism in the looks here than in a lot of the talking animal movies we see. It's not cute and cuddly, or idealistic symmetry. It's gritty and yet, pleasant on the eyes while having so many subtle details you could analyze scenes for hours just finding interesting quirks.

The way that Dirt is built like a frontier town, the business all being clustered near the center, the general quirks and expressions of the characters, the weight and sound behind the characters, it's immersive honestly. Especially the intentional "Mistakes" in the camera, to make it look like this is actually being filmed, with the blur caused by focus and the widepanning shots during the action. The scenario is intense, and the production even intentionally built it in a way that it resembles the common mistakes here and there with live action movies, which is some great meta stuff tbh.

I just noticed a tiny detail that may have been overlooked by most- at 0:22, Bad Bill reacts to Mayor Lynch pulling the gun on Jake, and at 0:25 he doesn't look entirely pleased by it either. I can't think of why, but it suddenly stood out to me after watching this scene so many times already.
He doesn't seem to enjoy people being murdered in general, which is strange considering him wanting to duel with Rango earlier. When Rattlesnake Jake was squeezing the life out of Beans, everyone reacted the same way, including him.
I think maybe it's because he's an outlaw, just like Jake is. And if mayor can get rid of his colleagues that easily, Bill's afraid he will be the next to catch a bullet. Or he just doesn't appreciate an act of betrayal

"I tip my hat to you. One Legend to Another" one of the best lines I've ever heard in a movie. Very powerful & intense. I'd never seen this movie until 2 days ago. Came across this clip a few days prior & it gave me chills. Watched the entire movie just to see what lead up to this epic line. Overall I still don't really care for this movie but this is still an awesome scene
@@Fallout4277 to go into a more understanding depth, he respects Rango despite his lies. He truly made a HUGE difference with a single bullet. Rango could have killed him too, but he didn't. This shows that Jake isn't your typical trickster. He doesn't aim for power, he aims for his own self.
Kudos to the animators for animating Jake in such a fluid and heavy-presence manner. They gave a rattlesnake the weight of a boa constrictor and the movements of a big ol' sea serpent. Jake may be a certain length of measurement but as far as we can tell, his body goes on for miles.
Man this scene has everything, classic western lines, single-hand gun laodng, amazing hans zimmer score, thrilling action, and cinematography. What more could you ask for? Rango is just a brilliantly done masterpiece. All the characters, the story and execution was just mesmerizing and on point.
I think it’s incredible how this movie is rarely talked about, good character design that isn’t cliche, voice acting is incredible, and just the character development is the best part. Also the introduction for Jake at the end, with not to loud music until it’s needed and it doesn’t stay, also the subtle 4th wall breaking

I love how throughout the Film they make it so you could interpret Jake as simply a mercenary with Mystique or literally some sort of Demonic figure. You could read his final Bit with John as just being him taking John away to Kill him later, or as a 'Dragged off to hell' Moment.

I absolutely love the resolution of Jake. He could attack Rango. He would obviously win. But he realizes that Rango was ready and willing to kill him. He had the opportunity to, but Jake was saved by the mayor. He had lost. And when he sees that bullet on the ground, he realizes that Rango is the real deal. That he could, and likely would, have killed him. Rango ended up becoming what he pretended to be, and Jake respects that. He always leaves town with a soul, and the mayor's soul will do. This movie is truly amazing. Jake is such an uncompromising badass, in voice, appearance, and presence.

I absolutely love the resolution of Jake. He could attack Rango. He would obviously win. But he realizes that Rango was ready and willing to kill him. He had the opportunity to, but Jake was saved by the mayor. He had lost. And when he sees that bullet on the ground, he realizes that Rango is the real deal. That he could, and likely would, have killed him. Rango ended up becoming what he pretended to be, and Jake respects that. He always leaves town with a soul, and the mayor's soul will do. This movie is truly amazing. Jake is such an uncompromising badass, in voice, appearance, and presence.

That was the most badass villains for a long time. I watched this movie so many times yet never fail to amaze me. The animation was ahead of its time.
