  • Michaela Haas discusses her new book, "Dakini Power". Learn more about the book at www.shambhala.c...
    What drives a young London librarian to board a ship to India, meditate in a remote cave by herself for twelve years, and then build a flourishing nunnery in the Himalayas? How does a surfer girl from Malibu become the head of the main international organization for Buddhist women? Why does the daughter of a music executive in Santa Monica dream so vividly of peacocks one night that she chases these images to Nepal, where she finds the love of her life in an unconventional young Tibetan master?
    The women featured in "Dakini Power"-contemporary teachers of Tibetan Buddhism, both Asians and Westerners, who teach in the West-have been universally recognized as accomplished practitioners and brilliant teachers whose life stories demonstrate their immense determination and bravery. Meeting them in this book, readers will be inspired to let go of old fears, explore new paths, and lead the lives they envision.

    Ive just ordered the book! There are many women in the Buddhist traditions following the light of the Buddha's teachings. Many are not mentioned in this interesting work but that doesnot detract from MIchaela's kindness in producing it.Pure Buddhist teachings are untrammelled by gender discrimination.I look forward to reading Dakini Power very much. The West so needs these role models of enlightened wisdom and compassion.

    There appears to be some legendary teachers somewhat forgotten.
    Ven Robina Courtin, whom holds such capacity to be direct radical, and draw her hearers into actively taking part to the point it is as though Venrable is communicating through the means of her hearers/listeners.She has such way to un-pack each meaning,it becomes mere impossible not to understand the teachings she expounds.
    Ven Amy Miller.Again such capacity her younger audiance relate particular well...
    I think in the west there has long been rise in equality and as such in the west those doors are pre-open for our ladies to take the helm and represent the female practitioners and accrue more.
    It is a great magnificent events that we observe and witness,as we now see females become ''Masters''. Just as Arya Tara stated she shall continously manisfest within the female form in order to bring about the equality.
    I think it goes something of that wording.Sorry if I get some wrong.

    That is not true that the archtype of seductive and confident diety doesn’t exist. They exist in Traditional African Religions as well. That comment would not be accurate

    Interesting but the background music was so distracting and repetitive it was hard to listen. Will still order the book.

    It's a shame there is so much intellectual hubris going on in american buddhism. Not a dakini aspect at all. The great female practitioners I have met in the himalayas have a very different pure quality.

    Being a female teacher does not mean you are a dakini.

    As soon as you start making it about gender then it's no longer Buddhism.

    DO DAKINIS REALLY EXIST? I do not believe so ... there is no realm in the cosmos like those of the gods in form and formless or brahma's world where such a being can be found ... or are they visualized energies out of the yogi's body which can later be dissolved at will ? and all is falsely explained? and what is the sense of all that? what do I do when meeting such a "phantom" ? talk to her? unite with her only once or all the rest of my life?

    Do not be taken in by this. The strong independent women is hardly exclusive to Tibetan Buddhism! Look up Ma'at and Ishtar and Asherah and so many of Erishkigal and - so many!

    • @StimParavane
      @StimParavane 11 місяців тому

      No one is independent. This is just a feminist trope that has no place in Buddhism.
