Shooting Cars and Car Care Nut in one video? I thought the day would never come
the car care nut owns a repair shop in Illinois and he specializes in Toyota/Lexus
@zaremol2779 it's not the first time though. They had a video where he reviewed a RAV4 Prime.
I also follow the Car Care Nut. Ahmed knows everything about Toyota and Lexus.
They collaborated before
Toyota changed the engine in 2009 for the 2010 model year, and that engine largely resolved the major issue of the 2.4. So if you're looking for a Camry in this generation and you can't afford a V6, look for a 2010 or 2011. BTW, the V6 Camrys had their issues as well, most notably the oil cooler lines that were prone to bursting, and radiator failure which could lead to the engine overheating.
radiator is pretty dang easy to replace
This, the 2AR is an absolutely fantastic engine when paired with the 6 speed. Love my 2011 2.5 LE
The 2.5 drank oil too unfortunently. The oil rings got stuck eventually just like the 2.4.
Not as much though. Mine burned about 3/4 of a quart every 5,000 miles. Sold it with 312,000 miles.
@@rowanarcticfox don't do 10k mile oil changes
The V6 was clearly superior
Except the ones produced before 2009
@@Mshi- you’re not talking about the 1MZ-FE are you?
1MZ-FE great as long as you stay on top of oil changes
@@dhillaz yep I had a 1MZ in my 94 Camry, thing was solid.
Zack reviewed my 07 V6 XLE Camry on his trip to California back in 2022 and the shot of the V6 engine was from my own car when he filmed
My current winter beater, (with a manual) an oil burner was an understatement I burn about 1.6 litres every 600 miles. I put in oil simultaneously like a put in gas.
constantly replenishing with fresh oil
nice
My grandma had a 2010 Camry. Seeing these cars usually brings back nostalgia for me
I sold my 2010 Camry LE last month. It had 177K miles on the odometer. The 2.5L engine was burning oil though. Needed a quart every month by the time I sold it.
Zack, This is a fair assessment. It is always fun to see Ahmed pop up on other channels. 😁
I wanna have Car Care Nut on speed dial too
I'm glad we didn't get this generation of Camry it got cancelled in 2006 by the previous generation in South Africa 🇿🇦
Wow
I think due to poor sales here in South Africa that the last mid size car sold from Toyota it was later replace by Toyota Avensis but only until the 2009 model year.
Oil burner but otherwise not too bad. Same issue with same generation Corolla with the 2.5 L engine. 1.8 L was more reliable
This generation of Camry also had issues, with melting dashboard plastic, becoming sticky unappealing. But it can be covered with a dash cover.
The off key at the intro at the end sent me😂
ts had me replaying it twice
I was confused.
This was the generation before the big corporate redesign that made all Toyota cars look so much better.
Just anecdotal, but I have an 07 Camry with the 2.4 and a 5 speed manual. Did no research prior to purchasing and I still have it a year later (I don't recommend doing this obviously). 350k+ on the clock and it burns less oil than my 08 Honda Element with half the mileage, which it to say barely an appreciable amount. Checked the VIN in Toyotas records and the TSB work wasn't even done on it, just checked at the dealership and given a pink mark to say it is below the rebuild threshold. The original owner from new actually lives near me and I visited and confirmed all the drivetrain is original. I understand this an extreme exception and not the rule. lol
Toaster gang
This Camry is more reliable than a Chevy, Dodge or Ford sedan
“ Run for the Hills ! “ what ? It’s a Toyota . I Have a Camry with the 2.4 , 194k miles on the clock. Boring but Flawless. Just keep eye on oil level.
"Most people" are bad at that unfortunately
@@Crispychicken4u run for the hills.. what you telling me a chrysler 3.6 is better.lol
@@Dankcatvacs the 3.6 Pentastar wasn't even available back then, but if you had to purchase a Big 3 car, a Fusion with the 4 cyl Duratec was a more solid choice than the oil burning 2AZ-FE powered Camry
I have a 2008 Camry SE it’s basically this car but with a body kit and a sports tuned suspension and steering
This generation Camry that came out in 2007, Toyota's quality went down. They used hard plastics around the dash and the problem of unintended acceleration
that unintended acceleration thing was way overblown.... some idiots made up a bunch of lies to get money out of toyota.
😂 You believe the "unintended acceleration" story? Forgive me for dismissing anything else you have to say about the brand.
@@brentkiely657 sure, tell that to the people that lost their lives.
Also, this just like many other car issues might fit into the overblown category, but people love to make themselves heard.
Can we talk about 4:28 lol the bug crawling the pillar lol
Those engines if you used synthetic from day 1 they didn’t seem to have the oil consumption issues. And they do have the sticky dash unfortunately
I remember seeing this car for the first time as an ad in my school's magazine back in late 2006 😂
Happy National Toyota Camry Day Zack!!! 🚗
Two of my favorite youtubers collabing on same video
My buddy I used to work with back in 2020 ended up getting one of these camrys with the manual transmission after his 350z got stolen. He had no idea that they were rare to have the manuals 🤣
Oil burning becomes a problem in three ways: 1) owner doesn't check the level, and it grenades from running dry. 2) Clog up the cats. 3) Burn exhaust valves. Otherwise, just keep dumping oil in, and run it til it quits!
My story is I sold my ‘07 LE with the 2.4 last year because it burned oil and I got my parents’ ‘07 1.8 Civic LX.
Have I saved money on gas and engine oil? Yes. Do I worry about the Civic? No. Do I miss the Camry? Yes! It’s larger, more comfortable, and faster than my Civic.
I would love to have the car back!
Get one, especially a 2.5 or 3.5!
"Camry = little car" is weird to me. The Corolla and Tercel/Paseo/Echo/Yaris...
That plastic fantastic interior that almost got close to any Chrysler Groip LLC of the period
My parents had one that we would use collectively as the family beater; I ended up using it about 7 times out of 10. As long as you keep that oil level to safe levels, the car is perfectly reliable, comfortable and cheap to maintain. I recommend using a non-synthetic oil to makes top offs and oil changes cheaper.
I remember Intechdude300 at the time of its release he said that it was a regression in every way compared to previous models, build quality is terrible too
Bought a 2008 Camry Hybrid brand new. Put 200,000 trouble free miles on it, at which point I gave it to one of my kids. By far the lowest running costs of any vehilce we've ever owned. It did eventually develop the infamous "sticky dash" problem, which Toyota paid to replace replace on some cars (ours developed it too late for it to be covered, so we just lived with it). 👋to AMD -he's truly the man on all things Toyota/Lexus 👍
My family has a 2011 Toyota Camry XLE V6 295,000 miles and we love it
This gen has aged surprisingly well
You read my mind bro I’ve been looking into comparisons between 5th and 6th gen Camry. Watched your last review and you didn’t mention the oil issue I was like 为什么他忘了说这里的车
The 2.4L was notorious for bad Pistons rings. Good thing that Toyota did something about it after so many complaints.
What a crossover event 2:22
Omg your buddy's with the car care nut? That is fantastic
this generation of camry gives so much Taxi vibes from the day, memories.
My only complaint about my '07 hybrid is the peeling clearcoat and lack of heated seats. A backup camera would have been nice.
And the 2.4 overall wasn't a bad engine till Toyota messed it up in 2007. Also, Zack, there were 3 engines in this generation. The 2010-2011 face lift models, got the 2.5 AR engine to replace the 2.4 AZ. So, 2.4, 2.5 and 3.5.
Owned both V6 and the 2.5....you notice the power difference on the highway but I think with the gearing on the 4cyl it's plenty responsive at city speeds
For a car that came out 18 years ago for the 2007 model year, these still don’t look out of place in traffic.
I currently have an 07 Camry LE with the 2.4L and its been an alright car but of all my Toyotas its been my least favorite I'd say. Mine doesn't burn any oil (yet) and its at about 140k miles now but I've had quite a few other issues (bad charcoal canister, bad alternator, bad ABS module, headlight switch failed, melting dash, sun visors fell off, etc). My main gripe is how damn SLOW it is, my 2002 Camry with the same engine was like a rocket compared to my 07, even my 2000 Prizm would smoke the Camry, idk if its just mine or what but its dog slow.
My sister had a 2002 Camry XLE with the 2.4 and it never had oil consumption issues, even at 200,000 miles. Seems to be just the 2007-11 2.4's with the updated rings.
the 2010-2011 were ok as they got the 2AR engine.
@@engineer_alv I already know that.
2AZ-FE’s are bad, but the oil burning consumption gets really out of hand. Though the one in my 08 Scion tC has seen 225k miles. If you keep up with the oil it’ll last forever
Yes it was! I have a 2008 Rav4 with the oil burning 4cyl. Out it went and I am installing a 4.8ls making it RWD only. Maybe a review someday
@@RobsNeighbor why a V8 and RWD? Just get another RAV4 with the V6 and AWD.
@@damilolaakanni Why not? A V8 RWD RAV4 sounds hilariously fun.
@@damilolaakanni Because it hasn't been done. I couldnt afford the v6 swap at the time. This is going to so Rad when its done.
The squeeze isnt worth the bang but I am in too deep and will be a fun daily when done.
I had a 2002 with the same motor and it didn’t burn oil . It drank oil 1 qt every 250 miles. It had 300,000 miles on it and never gave me a single issue besides when I got gas I also needed a quart of oil. They’ll run if you keep the oil in them. But I wouldn’t willingly buy another one without knowing if the problem has been fixed and they have paperwork proof of it being fixed. I love the 6th gen Camry it’s one of the best looking and aging of all of them.
Had an 04 when 320k miles and yup, she drank oil like it was water. Still have it but got rear ended so we plungered🪠 out the damage and she just sits. Replaced it either a 08 Lexus ls460 which had 180k miles. And she leaks a lot of oil. Kind of regret the purchase of it because of that but it’s by far the most comfy car l I’ll ever own. If I fix the valve cover gaskets it should be good.
I have an 2008 honda accord LX (4 banger not 6 sadly) with 82k miles and people also say thats the worst year and they report mainly brake and transmission issues the only bad thing happing is the headliner on the passanger side is sagging i think the adhesive is old but its my first car i only really expect to have it for a few more years or less if my younger brother wants it. My car id say is a solid commuter car and not much else
ZACH---the materials look and FEEL better in these olders cars (and yes the colors were better too beacuse it's not alllll black.)
CAN YOU PLEASE DO A REVIEW ON A 1ST GEN VOLVO S40😊
I had a 2004 Camry XLE (previous generation) with this motor. Mines only burned a quart every 3,000 miles, which is when I would change my oil at anyway. Otherwise, its a very good motor; I got over 300,000 miles with it. Just don't let it overheat.
The intro stroked out
that 12v outlet looks like electronic breaking now days.
Good car but I do not like it at all. Generic boring design and usually your owners don’t care about them and do zero maintenance.
The 4th gen was alot better, the engine was alot more durable, making an overall reliable and stronger vehicle. The engine was pretty gutless but the torque curve was nice and it was sufficient for everyday driving, could even be fun if you put your foot down. Never driven this gen Camry with the 2.4 but I'd imagine the driving experience would probably feel pretty numb and characterless, it felt like Toyota was really bored with this car and I think that comes across in its design the most.
After being in 3rd and 4th gens, I always liked my 6th gen responsiveness a lot more. It can be "fun" if you drive it right.
I knew you could get the Solara with the manual, but I had no idea the Camry offered it. As someone with a Scion tC with that exact powertrain combination, you do _not_ want the manual. The clutch is paper thin, the pressure plates collapse and come apart internally, and it's a really unrefined experience overall. Oil consumption is the least of my worries. It's transmission components that aren't even the clutch that keep dying prematurely that concern me. I'm already seeing warning signs that my third pressure plate/master cylinder are starting to go and now my throwout bearing is chirping (even through it was also replaced).
If you want a manual, get a Honda or maybe a Mazda. If you want an automatic, get a Toyota.
I agreed, I have a Vibe and my 3rd synchro grind from time to time and the throwout bearing make noise when very cold or when I slip in 2nd lol
even with new fluid it still feel like stirring a bowl of rock
And how would we know if the campaign was done on a particular Camry if we have no paperwork
You would Need to get the VIN and have a toyota dealer run it in their system
i have a 2.4 Vibe with the same engine (and GM didn't care to offer the TSB like Toyota did) and it does burns quite a bit of oil but otherwise,
it always start and run even in dead of winter and never seen CEL on it, ever
also the engine is not too horrible to work on except for throttle body cleaning because its at the back of the engine which is annoying.
My dad wanted to buy this Camry but mom liked Civic better so they got Civic. Some 70k later she almost killed that Civic by driving it for a week with hardly any oil.
I just got one in Manual with a blown engine. 430k miles on her tho
so what if it burns oil , check your oil.
better than a twin turbo blowing up , or a hybrid that the generator or hybrid battery could eventually fizzle and total the car.
why would you run for the hills? if people think this is the worst camry then they can be found cheaper!
better than a turbo 1.5 honda those im sure burn oil much worse.
has anybody tried high mileage oil to see if it helps any?
if it were a 5 speed i dont care what it looks like .
You say that but when you're adding a quart every 600-700 miles it gets expensive lol. Then it kills the catalytic converter which is also expensive to replace more then once. Mine will chew through a 5 quart jug of oil between oil changes as i drive 500-600 miles a week. Thats around $25 a month minimum in top off oil on top of regular oil changes lol.
@@TechMaster2133 - Yeah, dude has no idea what he's talking about.
@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow i don't have inspection where i live .
@Dankcatvacs a lot of places do lol, and you will be forced to replace that catalytic converter over and over again. Usually, you have to get a non cheap converter. The o e m replacement is $900-$1,300 just to order it, lol. Not including the labor to replace it.. My car currently costs me at the current rate of consumption, $300-350 a year in top off oil. On top of regular maintenance,. So the who cares if it burns oil statement is pretty wild, that's the cost of purchasing three premium AAA memberships per year, or having every streaming service available subscription wise spent on engine oil. That is not a small.
Amount of money in the grand scheme of things.
8:16 - Wasn't this the generation that introduced the Camry to NASCAR? I thought that played some role in the exterior design. Nevertheless, this design was (to me) a marked improvement over the oddly-shaped prior model. I hated the '02-'06 design.
😆😆😆 i like that change in the intro
This is one rare occasion in the universe that a 2008 Chevy Malibu is equal or better than the 2008 Toyota Camry from my experience.
I can vouch for the contemporary Fusion as well, you couldn't go wrong with either the 4 cyl nor the V6
I would honestly say the design has not aged as well as the Accord of the same era but that is just my (potentially biased) opinion. However, the worst Toyota I think is the 2014-2019 Corolla with the CVT. Such a cheap feeling car.
If i had to take any vehicle that is still made today/still on dealership lots cuz yes ik new gen is coming is the 2010-2024 toyota 4runner simplicity fat and very offroad capable
Even the worst Camry is better then modern American cars
Just check in the oil level and it will be fine
100%
back then a Fusion would've been the better buy or an Accord with the K24 engine. The mechanicals were all solid in those
PS. There are no modern American cars, they're all gone
0:08 That intro 💀
Wassup zac❤
The intro threw me off 😅
09:03 did somebody say '100,000 Tundras' ???
Toyota's are boring, but reliable , more reliable then the domestics. Toyota doesn't focus on styling the way the domestics do. Instead they focus on quality and reliability
the 2024 Tundra definitely isn't their best work
If you cant get the V6 avoid these models. This was the start of the downfall of Toyotas quality with the oil burning as well as Toyotas scandal with their cars accelerating out of control. How far theyve fallen since the early 2000s needs to be studied
fuckin Toyota stans won't have it, they're as loyal as golden retrievers
The 2az Fe was massive fail, good engine on paper disastrous in practice. Having said that they are still really strong. My dad used to have a rav 4 with this motor and it had next to no oil in it from the dreaded piston ring failure issue and it was completely fine lol.
The 2ar fe however is far superior, there's a guy on UA-cam that got like 250 or 270 HP out of one without a turbo
The 2007-2011 were the real bad ones. The 2002-2006 had the older, better rings and not as bad.
@@Jonathan-bk3dq the 2010 and 2011 are ok as they had already switched to the 2AR engine
@@engineer_alv OMG yes I know!!!
If you wanted the worst, you should have tested a CE.
V6 is the way to go with this gen Camry
Ah, yes. The complimentary oil burner engine that introduced the downfall of Toyota’s reputation on reliability.
Love the cross promotion that’s what it’s all about 💯
the car that i'd be ungrateful to have. The 4 cylinder engine for this generation of camry is unreliable
🔥🔥🔥
Do a 94 camry! V6
Actually it’s a 2.5 liter not a 2.4 liter
I thought the v6 one
One of the most bland, and boring looking versions of the Camry, the design looks so uninspired
Toyota made a bad design
The ‘97 through ‘99 were real disappointments. And before someone rushes in to tell me about their best car ever-a 1997 Camry with 600k on the original drivetrain-no, you are wrong: Those were not good Toyotas. You got lucky, or you have no point of comparison, or you’ve forgotten, or you are lying.
First
the 2002-2006 was better
yes and i have an 07
Yes, I have an 05 Scion tC with the 2.4, the piston ring issues started 07 and after, when they changed them for better fuel economy.
