I really appreciate how this gentleman spoke to the young man: respectful, did not condescend, gave him a little lesson is art history. And that appraisal was amazing!
I was going to comment on this before I saw your comment. The gentleman is to be commended. He drew the young man out to speak of his experience and was so encouraging about his future.
This kid is going places! You can see his active thought process flickering in his eyes throughout the whole video. He is an intelligent, clever, industrious boy, success in the making! I’m certain his father is proud. I wish him all the best!!!
This kid is awesome, and I love the encouragement the appraiser gives him. I hope he continues his passion, and perhaps one day we’ll see him as an expert on the show.
It's been several years, I'd love to see an update on this young man. He was well on his way at a young age. You have to wonder what he has found since then.
Not criticizing anyone including a kid, but the most successful people aren't motivated mostly by money. People with a passion in any job or trade are the most successful. If he loves art and has a passion for art, he will be successful because he will have a knack for knowing what is good or bad and buying or selling accordingly. Then the money will come because he is good.
Bad advice. I am not sure about this one, but 99% of children of that age, their interests don't go any further than interests. You have to make a decent living first. I hate it when Hollywood stars go on the stage, and say: follow your dreams. "Follow your dreams", thousands young people listened to you, and only a few succeeded. Thousands lives rained.
Grounded? I guess so, in becoming rich. I understand the lure of finding something of value others have dismissed, but he was ALL and ONLY about the money and getting rich. I definitely agree that this kid deserves recognition for patience and having a good eye. It was great that he could recognize what makes a good painting, although that wasn't discussed. There's joy in discovering things, in art, in being with your dad -- things that didn't come through in this interview, at least, at all.
@@marthareis5873 Your comments are spot on. Unless this clip had a decent amount of editing, the only thing I heard the child talk about was buying and selling silver, the hot weather and "becoming rich" . It certainly didn't appear that he had any interest in the beauty/uniqueness of his painting nor in his silver platters. Of course there is nothing wrong with a business formula that focuses solely on profits. I think for him to enjoy his endeavor to the fullest, a passion for more than just financial profit needs to be in the mix. Perhaps, he has that passion, and it was simply edited out. At his tender age, I do hope he isn't forming the attitude that the happiness path can only be defined and attained financially. To whomever said he has a "good eye", I didn't really pull that from this clip. I did hear him agree with the appraiser about watching the fluctuations of the silver market. At the end of the day, it certainly sounds like he enjoys spending weekends doing this together with his father, and that's a wonderful thing!
So what if the kid cares about the art of the pieces. It's good that he's finding a way to make money young and hopefully be able to save that money. It can be a good career.
I love everything about this. The young is a real entrepreneur & the appraiser treats him with respect and the right amount of information and encouragement.
This boy will end up very successful. He has a smart head for business at a young age. David Weiss did an amazing interview with him. He was very encouraging and asked good questions. One of my favourite Antique Roadshow episodes.
That little boy is so cute and so sweet. I loved watching the smile come over his little face as this appraiser estimated his painting's value! It's a shame that more children aren't profiled on Antiques Roadshow!
This program had several short clips that I enjoy watching, this is probably my favorite. If you guys ever did a show that was just follow ups with interesting people, that young man would be a good place to start. I hope he is well.
