The villagers are the ones that dig these holes where the elephants get stuck in.
The villagers take land from the elephants and the elephants have nowhere else to go than fall into these holes. They make animal habitat disappear.

The people of the village were so kind bringing food for the elephants then digging them out of the pit.. it must have taken hours to rescue them ...lovely people 🌺

I come here when I start to loose hope and start seeing only the negative sides of this world. Feels really good to see the positive aspects once in a while.
Good work by people for feeding the Mother and Child. I just wish they had also showered them with some Water. They looked thirsty
Problem with that is it would have made the mud slippery and harder for them to climb out of the slope that they were creating.
The food they were supplying had plenty of water content, the banana tree bark. Fresh corn too have some moisture.
They also get water from what they eat.

farms doing that to collect water to their harvest. but most of their harvest was eating by Elephants even before pluck. 😘 this is why i love my country's people they angry when they broke their houses & stole their harvest ( they has anything to eat in forest but coming to have more tasty food so peoples angry towards them is o.k wasn't it ) but when they heard some animal is in danger they eventually try to save them you can see the things they giving to these 2 is the foods they came to stole 😊 my English is not too good hope you can understand

@@CandiceGoddard I'll take your story with a pinch of salt really oh dear come to sl and live a day in a village that has more elephants attacks 😜 well my friend elephants has so many things to eat in jungles but they coming to villages to eat more yummy foods and you seeing these people who digging this pit but you never see their houses everything broke by this giants but these villagers not blaming know why cause they are animals & at lest 8/10 villagers die in last month by elephant attacks.
and know what most people in this picture has lost their places or loose their income due to these elephants but when these giants are in trouble these villagers are the 1st one to help animals before authorities cause we are people like that.

это ловушки для слонов и др животных , сами жители их копают или браконьеры .Спасибо неравнодушным , кто вызволил. Видно люди бедные и для них пригнать такой агрегат денег стоило и это поступок экскаваторщика за свои деньги и время помочь бедолагам, сидящим видимо там долгое время :( Надеюсь яму зарыли и больше в нее никто не попадет .Представляю как они туда ночью свалились и что пережили ,особенно детка. Низкий поклон деревне ,вот это люди ! Да хранит вас всех и детей ваших БОГ !

I always wonder if the elephants think they "escaped" a human "trap"
or understand that these people helped them and had no bad intentions.
The mother made no threats once exited the hole. So she did know the humans were no threat. Earlier food giving reinforced that. But she did not understand technology. It was not possible for her to understand it was the humans that gave her the escape path. The path appeared before her like magic. When she returned to her herd and told the story of humans waving a big trunk on the exit path (opened by the ancient mother elephant angel - elephants are matriarchal) while rumbling some gibberish, her herd would consider her slightly mad. From elephants' perspective, a trunk cannot be used for opening a path.

It makes for better publicity to save an elephant from a pit on video, than stop the people digging the pits.
Bruce A. Johnson it's nothing like that...The reality is in India, the governance of public infrastructure and utility is not that good. So one contractor comes and digs pits for poles, cables, etc. Then the other comes after a month or so to finish the work. Meanwhile, the pit remains open and a danger to humans and animals alike. This happens even in busy city roads, leave alone the rural jungles. You will find many videos on UA-cam itself of children falling down in such pits or wells, and being rescued. Human children.
So, I don't think it was anything nefarious. Although poachers are a problem even after massive sustained crackdown by govt for last several decades. But in this case, I don't think it was poachers' trap nor was it publicity stunt by villagers.
those pits are dug as a part of watershed rejuvenation and irrigation. There are a lot of videos on the subject and the work that is happening in India. India has monsoons and for thousands of years the farmers have been digging out pits to slow the rainwater and store it for later use. What seeps in to the ground recharges the watershed so that wells are full during the dry season.
What makes you think this is in India? This channel and these videos are from Sri Lanka, NOT India
Majestic World...This is in Sri Lanka. It's not a poachers trap. Those pits are dug in the dry zone, to make wells for crop cultivation. And it's the kind hearted farmers along with the dedicated wild life officers who go and help to rescue the elephants, with the best equipment they can find. The biggest and the best tool they all have and use, is their compassionate, loving heart
It's good to know that
