Why You DON'T Need to Relax to Get Control

- This work requires that you change your focus of attention. Whether you have performance anxiety or panic attacks or OCD, your worried voice is going to be generating questions like, “Am I getting too anxious?” “Am I going to embarrass myself?” “Did I make a terrible mistake?” Your job is to move your attention here: “I’m willing to feel awkward, clumsy, insecure, unsure, embarrassed… as I learn to get stronger.” Learn to detach from the message of, “I gotta get rid of this!” Provocative as it seems, develop a voice that can say, “I want this.” Remember: If you want to overcome a trauma, then you need to step into a safe, reasonable facsimile of your trauma and let your amygdala hang out.
The most helpful thing Reid Wilson has ever said, for me anyway, is that the content is irrelevant - it's so powerful to realise that
2 years sufferring from ocd without knowing anything about ocd. Thank to God who accepted my prayers and now I'm aware of this. 2 days practising ocd treatment, already feels like I'm going to my normal state and realise how much time I wasted because of this shitty thing
I may reply here in a few months about my progression if I get any notification
Good luck. Trust me, you'll be 101% yourself!
hey, how are you feeling now? any significant improvement?
@@WarisAli-gb4od yeah man, completely recovered within 1 month, after recovery I felt kind of emptiness in my mind. Let's say, if you slap your face, pain doesn't go away immedietly you take your hand from face, it goes goes goes and disappears. It was kinda this. If I could do this, everyone can, it was hard, but you have to leave your comfort zone. It worths it, I'm myself again, pure. Good luck everyone!
@@MrJony-fv3ev thanks, mate.
@@MrJony-fv3ev how is life after recovering ?
@@WarisAli-gb4od as I mentioned, I experienced something "free" in my mind, when doing something, my mind expected ocd thought but it didn't come, so I wasn't aware of what to do at that time, like I forgot how to live without ocd thought. But after some time my mind adapted living without ocd again. Don't worry bro, be a little patient, no pain -no gain rule applies here, if ocd treatment gives you at least little anxiety it means it's working. The day when you look back at your ocd life and just smile will come. Just be patient and stay strong. I'm feeling pure right now, you'll too. I'm going to share 2 videos that saved my life. One is the current video and the second is this: ua-cam.com/video/aefWxEMNlnQ/v-deo.html
Finally, a doctor that answers my long overdue state. Thank you doc. I recorded your voice and strategy in my head. Feels better.
Dr Wilson is the GOAT!
i wish there is someone as great as you in treating depression
His teachings for anxiety is pretty much the same concept. Don’t resist the feelings depression brings. Notice the feeling and say GREAT this is exactly what I want. Say yes to it. Most likely you’re resisting the feelings without knowing. That’s pretty much how Dr Wilson explained it to me and Im A LOT better now. It took a lot of practice to get rid of my anxiety and depression.
@@defender7624 thank you!
Seek out “the feeling good podcast” by Dr David Burns. He’s the legitimate GOAT. On his podcasts just look up depression. He loves curing depression.
@@defender7624 I agree. Anxiety and depression seem to come in twos. If anxiety goes away then so does the depression.
you have no idea how much this has helped me... Thankyou Dr Wilson
Wow, empowering...thanks!
Brilliant. Dr. Wilson do you do professional phone q and a?
Here’s all you need - say this to your fearful mind “I’m the brain now - so relax, because this is how it’s going to go…”. Simply deciding which of your 2 brains is in charge will snap you out of being a slave to your subconscious fearful mind. It works. I’m the brain now.
Thank you
Would it be ok to say something like: I am willing to struggle breathing, I'm willing to be scared. I want this. I want this. I want to be able to survive this jiu jitsu. I want this. It's important to me. I want to do this difficult task. I want to stay under this person's weight.
Hope your doing well 🙏
@@pasdro7777 Thank you for the kind sentiment!
Hello just maybe be careful not to enter too much into the content :-)
God finally my head is thanking you
thank you!! i love this it helped me so much
How to detach myself how to make the shift if you may explain further. I thought I was making progress by believing exposure is the answer to my panic attacks and agoraphobia but this afternoon I had a series of panic episodes and nothing came up to mond I go back to the state of a scared little baby who feels extremly lonely and I try to reach out to people (calling friends up while having intense symptoms) . I really wanna do the detachment and bring in the I want it feeling but how as I even forget to breath properly or to think I’m just overwhelmed by fear and afraid not to be able to function properly again (2 years ago when I had this I was bound to bed for days and it really shook my self image and confidence and the moment I have panic I instantly see that weak image of me.
Sorry to hear about your stress. I am no Doctor or expert but i will share my thoughts on this. When anxiety pops up in your head, instead of reaching out to people to alleviate your stress (reassurance seeking is bad and strengthens OCD), you should try to shift your focus to a task or hobby you like as a kind of mindfulness and postpone the worry or anxiety. It can be very hard in the beginning but over time it will start re wiring your brain. When i have anxiety or an OCD thought now, it can be very paralyzing but i try to go about my routine mindfully. Some days are bad where i just want to keep sleeping but over time it will worsen the OCD. Now i just go play tennis and postpone the anxiety and when i review it later, it has lost a lot of it's power. Good luck with your recovery.
@@humanentity2214 Remember that these are just thoughts in your head, they will not hurt you. Like the Doc says you need to have two voices when it comes to anxiety and depression to deal with it or manage it. I no where your at and I have been there and it can be hard, just remember to work a little each day and things will improve a little each day. Take care and good luck on your journey.
this is pretty normal and understandable because when your body secreces that amount of adrenaline you can not feel good things but when you have some pyhcoeducation about this disorder you may start to react better. feeling better is coming later, first need to react/behave and then feeling better will arise. I reccommend you to purchase online courses of Reid Wilson, I'm sure they will give you a hope and recovery ultimately.
Stupid 'forward' ads..!!! 🤬
Otherwise...good talk..👍
