Whenever I'm a rar king, I make sure everyone knows I am majestic and magnanimous. "A kings duty is not to harass the people, his duty is making the people happy." I just hang out in mess hall, chat with people, eat food, party with the clown, and raise an army. Then when shit hits the fan, I help out, capiche?
Oh god. Last time I had a Hamlet round I decided to be a rebellious Hamlet who fell in with a bad crowd, and followed the Rat King as an honorary rat. I had no idea I was in danger of becoming emergency food. I'm glad the rat king welcomed me as a rodentine sibling.
One round I played, a rat king got infected by the zombie outbreak and the station got overrun with zombie rats. Typically I was dead and observing in ghost mode. The round was over and I saw someone get off the shuttle. They couldn’t get in so they got an emergency evo suite, space walked to the nearest window and he got a dead hop, a hallway full of blood, and lots of dead bodies. Best part of that round.
Probably one of the greatest times I've seen someone play as a rat king is uploaded onto youtube. Cargo just let the rat king eat all the pizza they had delivered which allowed him to create a massive army which he then used to start ending random crew members in the halls, one security guard tried shooting the rat king but there was too many rat minions so his bullets did nothing.
I have very little experience with Rat king, but I can say with around 80% certainty that you can use rat king's domain under a door, to trap all the ammonia in a single tile, which greatly increases your healing utility.
Awesome, thanks. As an addendum for players (under the assumption that this works as I think it does), try to do this under the maintenance tunnels engineering doors that lead to substations. I did this during my only ever Rat King run, the logic being it's in a secluded location almost no one visits, meaning the gas can remain there for a very long time. Though now that I think about it, maybe I used it while inside the Engineering mini-room, instead of while on the door, to keep the gas in a more concentrated area. It was a while ago, I don't quite remember what I did.
Currently have a PR draft to turn ratkings into a more “neutral” character like skeleton with a PDA and Comms slot, just need to fix the comms sprites(and figure out how to do that T-T, the PR is done except for the minor headset sprite being in the wrong place) :)
That reminds me of one time that there was apperantly some bug with the rat king where you could get an absolutely *comical* amount of rats by cannibalism. Even with my WT and security trying to help cover their escape, the wave of rats was so utterly overwhelming that we actually lost- It was absolutely hilarious. Rat king zooming around botany doors and medical is an absolute menace, and with enough followers can absolutely overwhelm the crew.
He doesn't know the forbidden door domain tech! Placing your domain under a door traps all 200mol of ammonia on the door tile. My understanding is the king heals based on the amount or percentage of ammonia present that they can breathe. I used this once to maul like 5-8 people on the shuttle, ducking under the door to almost INSTANTLY heal
@Liltenhead I'd agree it's unintended, but it's a side-effect of how atmospherics is handled, mixed with the rat king being able to walk under doors without opening them. Basically the doors/airlocks act as atmos blocking tiles when closed. This means the gas on that tile can't move, and the gases on either side of the door can't mix with each other. So dropping your domain there concentrates the ammonia, and healing is based on the amount metabolized by the lungs. There is a direct counter to this strategy, though: open the door. It causes the ammonia to mix into the air on either side of the door. From a coding/balance perspective though, it can probably be fixed by preventing the domain ability from being used on an atmos blocked tile (closed airlocks, tinyfans, etc)
Get the station to bribe you. As long as you get food, your army fights for the station. Hell, even ask security or the captain if they want someone dead
What would be more fun/interesting is if the Rat King spawned more rats with each spawn, for example 4 rats instead of 1. The rat servants could do less damage and have less health to be more like a swarm as well. It could inspire people to use other weapons to focus on area of effect damage.
@@Liltenhead that's what i was referring to, yeah. that energy bar that you smashed the vending machine for is what i was thinking of when writing this, since that's about 1/3 of the nutriment you would have gotten, instead wasted.

One day, a rat king will use his rat army on a pair of nuke ops or something and that'd be the stuff of legends
One of the first shifts when the rat king was added involved them nuking the station lol
I was on a shift like that
One of my favorite rounds to date involved the HoS appointing me and my patrol partner, shiva, as the ratkings "royal guards"
True station defenders

uh, can you explain the one time I saw a huge, hulking, utterly massive rat king with the job title "Service Emperor"?
Admins can spawn a buff version of the rat king.
Who the hell throws a *ENTIRE CHEESE WHEEL* in the trash?
But it was moooldy
Not even close to the weirdest thing thrown into a disposals bin in space station lol
That healing is so slow! we need a rat king buff!!
Yeah the minions are made out of paper, hp slowdown sucks.

drinking blood is a good way to heal btw

As far as I remember, the king can drink pools of blood, restoring his hunger. I saw such a king who made 20 rats out of a large puddle X_X

only real issue with rat king is that, as far as i'm aware, he can't open wrappers. makes busting vending machines much less worth it.
You can eat chips and stuff but not chocolate bars or wrapped mres I believe.

Can’t wait to have to play OSU! just to be good enough at click combat to play rat king and live.
Rat King can heal a little by eating meat or drinking blood
Amazing video, but it’s too bad that in the server I play in they removed the rat king 😭
