📝 Have you written a book? My life goal is to be a published author and make a living from writing and I am using this year to gain experience, build up a portfolio and work on a book with my agent. I have just finished the final draft of that book, as you can see in this video. I did self-publish a book about bullying when I was seventeen which is available on Amazon (amzn.to/3mdJKLm), but I'm slightly embarrassed by it now!
🎃 Do you have merch? I don't have merch in the traditional sense (I can't imagine selling something with my face or name on haha!), but I do have a stationery company where I sell planners for students. Hi!! One thing I wanted to say about flower pressings - as an MSc ecology student - please make sure there are plently of this flower before you pick them!! There is a general rule that if you see about 50 of these flowers you can take a couple, otherwise leave them standing. There are already so little wildflowers left, so please be careful with what you take from nature! (Coming from someone that also loves to press flowers/plants!)
I already mentioned this in past videos, I don't know if she actually reads comments or not.
I thought it was illegal to pick all wildflowers? In the UK anyway
@@littlecally no you can pick wildflowers in the uk. Uprooting a whole plant though, like bluebells, is illegal

This is exactly what I plan to do this summer! I passed my last undergrad exam a few days ago and my dissertation is done. For the first time in four years I don't have to study for exams in September. I will just dedicate these next months to myself and to just do the things I love.

If I had known you when I was your age, my life would have been absolutely complete ❤. But as a 56 year old bookish girl turned doctor, you nourish that side of me in the most creative way and I pass some of my ideas on to my sons, who are bookish, but have the opportunity to explore this to the max, which I never had.
You did a great job arranging those wildflowers. Taking a flower arranging class would fit right in with this cozy cottage, bookish, light academia esthetic.
I loved the outtakes on this! Definitely added that sense of whimsy you were talking about and made me smile. I’m always glad to see that you have fun yourself too while making these videos :)

even though it is from the 1980s Any Madeline Miller is worth a recommendation. One more summer tip is to visit your local museum. They are full of treasures and stories. Thank you for a great video

This looks like the perfect way to relax after a busy year studying. I was delighted to see you reading from a book illustrated by Arthur Rackham. Perhaps another bookish activity could be to seek out the Arthur Rackham museum?
That book and several others illustrated by him, are in my personal library thanks to my godmother. She was a teacher and gave me some wonderful books when I was young. I was given A midsummer nights dream at least 40 years ago and have his Grimms fairytales among others. It was nice to be reminded ❤️

Since you mentioned films here, I think you should watch Dogtooth! It is a unique coming-of-age story that beautifully explores family dynamics, parenthood, and the power of language. I've seen you are interested in studying conceptions of childhood in literature so I think you would love it :) It is also set in summer

hi ruby, i have been your subscriber since your high school days maybe like many others, and its just been such a lovely journey so far, we are also the same age :D and it is like i have seen you growing along side myself, in these years its been such a pleasure to share your ups and downs, how you got your place at oxford and everything, and maybe i am not able to put it correctly in words, but your overall channel and the parts of life you shared have felt really wholesome to me, today while i was watching this vd, it just clicked me that over all these years all the content has been fairly consistent around your love for literature and it felt so nice, LOL i ended up writing such a long comment XD

Absolutely love this, this is exactly the kind of summer I strive for! (Also, as a fellow person who tends to prefer to read authors' diaries and poems, I have to say that I found Plath's letters vastly superior to her journal! She was such an extraverted person that her letters show so much emotion, whereas her journal she often just used for writing exercises. Still making my way through the vast volumes of her letters but they're insanely readable!)
A fascinating collection of letters are those of Arthur Rimbaud. I have an edition of Rimbaud's complete works translated by Paul Schmidt. Schmidt wrote in the preface to the letters that they offer a chilling contrast to Rimbaud's poetry.

I can suggest that you can learn/read a new/foreign language with a friend/family or just alone for summer as I have seen your academic hustle and walkthrough with your channel and it will be a effective mind reset. Also there will be interesting experience when you read any form of literature especially books in a new/foreign language even if its casual and cannot relate to the author/audience. I'm saying this from personal experience.

This video is perfect in timing, as I just wondered when you'd upload again xD Also perfect in topic as I just was at an antique/old books store and plan on getting some books about bookbinding there (and ofc some beautifully bound old books, if I have the money for those). Bookbinding is something I'd love to get to this summer once I moved and have more space for all the materials, so this is perfect to have a source where I can get old books about old bookbinding from a local store. And the guy there said that he has a storage of thousands of antique/old books so I'm curious if I find something that interests me that he could have there, because I just love old books (I'm unfortunately not really interested in old literature (yet), currently I love my fantasy books too much, but maybe there are some old fantasy-esque books that exist? I'll have to look that one up). Oh and I can't forget about writing! I want to start to write a book this summer as well, as I have a few ideas but they're just ideas atm and I really want to start with one of those soon, though finding the plot still intimidates me as I get stuck at world-/ and character building and am scared to have a great environment but a bad plot...
I really hope I can get to all this though as I have a bunch of uni assignments that keep me infront of my pc all day long :/
