I actually think that in the riddle-expaining scene at the end the prince allready figured it all out but is still a bit confused about everything so he just lets her confirm to him he's right

I think the point of the riddle Cinderella gives to the prince is not for him to solve it by himself to prove himself to her. The point is for him to understand who she is and accept her. She wants him to understand that she is mischievous, that she is a hunter (and a tomboy) and that she is not a princess or a duchess, but just an ordinary girl from a small estate. Once he understands these facts about her and still wants to marry her, that is good enough for her. That is why it doesn't matter if he figured out all the details by himself, what matters is that he accepts who she is once he learns them.

This was a great video about one of our best fairy tales!
One detail I think you missed when talking about the scene where the stepmother takes the whip is the non-verbal implication.
The stepmother and Dora hear a crack and they rush into the kitchen, the stepmother sees the kitchen boy on the ground with the shards of the bowl, and so she picks up the whip and comes closer. As she approaches, Cinderella sweeps in to help him pick it up. Then, when the stepmother asks who broke the bowl, Cinderella takes the blame. Immediately after that, the stepmother folds and puts away the whip.
This is a great character building moment for Cinderella because she knows that the boy will be punished harshly, but if she takes the blame, her punishment will not be as severe, because even if the stepmother is cruel enough to use corporal punishment on a servant, she will not outright whip her stepdaughter. This shows that Cinderella is kind enough to sacrifice herself, but she is also clever and thinks fast on her feet.
Also, there is this channel on YT that has better translations of this movie as well as several other famous Czech fairy tales in case you wanted to check them out!
Though sadly, some of the other greatest hits are missing, and are hard to come by online.

Jak se budí princezny (How princesses are woken up) is a take on Sleeping Beauty.
    Zlatovláska (Rapunzel)
Byl jednou jeden král (There once was a king) is a take on King Lear
Princezna ze mlejna (Princess from a mill) is an original tale.
All of them are very good!

Glad you enjoyed, and thank you so much for the suggestions and insight! I've seen multiple versions of the stepmother who had no qualms using physical punishment on Cinderella, so that may have colored my interpretation of the scene.

@@EmilyRitcheson ....the fox in the movie was NOT shot during the movie. It was a stuffed animal and if you look closely it was not even the same fox.
Vincek had a "sad face" at the end because this actor was drunk for the most if not entirety of the movie. He was a good actor in general, but alcohol was a 'medicine" for his physical pain.
The prince had bright colours because he was, well, princ and had to be distinguished from his friends AND gold is a royal status and I have never looked at this with a thoughts you had.
I actually liked they didn't kiss at the end.
I applaud the director for filming this movie in the winter, this makes it so appropriate to earn to be a "Christmas movie"

That hunting scene always makes me sad, not matter how many times I watched this film - and I'm from Germany, it's a Christmas classic here since ...50 years by now? Not that I'm that old lol, but since the film came out in 1973. They actually used two foxes in that scene, one, who was trained and tame, and another was "ordered" dead a few months prior filming that scene. The dead animal was kept deep-frozen until that day, that's why he is so stiff (which he normally wouldn't be of course). But still, for a sensitive person like me, and you this is hard to watch in any case :) plus, the music also does it part ;)

I was wondering about the fox for all this time. I thought, the cadaver might be a stuffed animal by its weird looks, but I was never sure. Thank God they didnt actually shoot that fox.

😂 This film was shot in a time when nearly every child has seen a rabbit, a chicken or even a pig slaughtered in the garden many times. So showing hunting wasn't that controversial. 😅

I love two Czech fairytales made in recent years- The Seven Ravens (2015) and Krakonosovo Tajemství (2022). Also An Angel of the Lord (2005) is cute and funny. It is teasing the the Catholic teachings with a light-hearted references . They even casted the actors to play roles of the saints acording to their first name. For example St. Veronica is played by Veronika Žilková, St. Martin by Martin Huba etc.

I think it's important to know where meat comes from. There are hunter's balls and pigs/rabbits harvested for meat in czech villages till today. Many of us grew up with understanding that some animals are kept for a certain purpose.

I stumbled upon your channel from the FTT shorts (and probably from the algorithm, too). I appreciate your thoughts and opinions on the various versions of Cinderella, as there are so many versions out there and beloved by many.
There is one version that I vaguely remembered when I was very young, and it was done using stop motion. The story was told with no dialogues, but through music.
Now, from yt, I finally learned it was called Cosgrove / Halls Cinderella (1979).

Thank you for the kind words, and for the suggestion! ❤ That is one I'm not familiar with, but I have a soft spot for stop motion so I'll definitely have to look it up!

Holy shit! Have never seen that fox scene before 😮!
Think it might have been removed in newer version? or at least in the Norwegian version.

18:50 The reason he didn’t jump of excitement was because the actor was drunk during filming the scene
