NAMM 2023 Rhodes MK8 Now With FX Board

- Back at the Rhodes booth with Dan looking at the new Rhodes MK8 now with FX FX board. This flagship model has the preamp from the preamp version of the piano and a layer of digital control over the top, which allows for future MIDI control as well as detailed settings.
The VCA-based compressor, bucket brigade-based stereo chorus circuit, and envelope filter from the FX section bring a whole new dimension to the Rhodes. All of these effects are self-contained in one box, which means you don't have to drag a pedal board with you or have them sitting on top. Additionally, you can assign expression pedal controls for chorus rate, phaser rate, and delay time/mix, which is incredibly useful when playing.
The MK8 FX is designed to keep noise levels in check and flatter the Rhodes signal, so these seemingly standard analog effects are much deeper than that, especially since they are intimately integrated with the Rhodes itself. The beauty of the circuit is that with digital control, future firmware updates can add more requested features. The two expression inputs on the right-hand side accept control voltage inputs from modules, and assigning different foot controls is easy. You just hit the switch for the effect you want, set the upper limit to your taste, and go! The Rhodes MK8 FX offers classic sounds as well as creative possibilities, and it's exciting to think about what future updates may bring.

Beautiful instrument, I like that they’ve geared the FX towards performance and real-time control. Of course you can use a VST but my experience of playing a real Rhodes suitcase absolutely blew me away - physically resonating in the gut.
Knocked it out of the park, Rhodes. Amazing.
I love those pieces of art. Good jobs guys
Insane vibe.
NOTHING sounds like a Dan G Rhodes 🎹⭐️🚀
🤗🧡💚👌thanks for the midi question!
Holy shit box! That compression with distortion! This is what I’ve always dreamed of!
An amazingly powerful instrument. I particularly love he sound of the chorus and the delay. The filter would be great if linked with a pedal, and I’ve a soft spot for the ring modulation sound. It looks wonderful, too. Great work, Dan 👍🏽
Thanks so much @MikeLindup42! Be great to see you at the factory again soon and give you a personal tour of the MK8FX! Hope all is great.
Wow, this thing sounds great.
thank you for your kind words! Very much appreciated.
Too bad Chick is no longer here to see this beauty. He would have made sonic chocolate with it.
Amazing instrument, would like to try one 😃😄😃
Beautiful. I could just watch and listen. Makes me feel very sad that I never learned to play the piano.
Dan, it's a brilliant sign of your team's innovation and commitment to excellence that you're adding such deeply versatile and creative features to enhance the already beautiful instrument the Mk8 is.
🧡🎹🎶😊
Love that I brought for 25$ my Roland SH2000 🧡 with the growl after touch controlled effect ✨😵, and some rediscover that , paying thousands of $......
Of course I brought my R SH2000 in the late 90's as the store employee told me '' this ''thing'' is making quote 'strange noises'... The fact is that you need to think modular, when using it, and you rediscovers the world of 70' experimentations by creative people. Need some effect and preamp, on mixing table to appreciate, and this is a mono synth, so I appreciate a lot this video and the machine adds!🙏💚🧡
I should mention that Aftertouch too , as Velocity, is part of the instrument. Remember me my old real piano practicing double touch to renew harmonics, that you can try on a heavy touch piano keyboard , so the Keyboard itself is The instrument!.... Far from digital technology, to remake those easy things to build.
Are you an AI bot or did you hit your head?
You don't use a SH synth to replace a Rhodes... you place it, on stackers, on top of the Rhodes. Don't people know anything anymore?
What are some of the best Rhodes albums to listen to? Personally I like the beginning of Sheep from Animals but that's just one song
one day, one day
Echt he?😂
sounds awesome, looks heavy af
So if I win the lotto you will know because there will be a mk 8 in my living room
Does it come in red or orange?
Yes it does. Both!
I think the drive sounds awful, but then I never liked the sound of a distorted Rhodes to begin with. That compressor is pretty nice though.
Drive can sound really gnarly or much more musical and saturation-esque- depends where you set the drive dial and the eq, compression.
🤗🙋🙏👍⚡voltage pedal controller, hey heyyyyh!... Give me a pack of 20pcs for all my instruments!... Eh Behringer🙋🆘 voltave pedal controlers are part of the instruments! And part of creative way! 🐣😎 Most demo test are not using any of the Two to four insert petal connection every synth have! Why?, Because they explain technical things, not creative music!💥.... And of course, midi tracks, and sequecers causes a lack of frequencies to be heard. Her in this video, is shown a little introduction to that subject, fine, I appreciate this guy putting music creativity at the center🙏💚🧡☺️😺🐶
need compander
Nice plugin 😂
13k? And I thought $500 was a lot for my old seventy-three. Seriously what a joke, almost as much as my car was!
The ‘it’s too expensive’ argument really is just a very general un-nuanced view of things. It’s like saying a Porsche is expensive- yeah a Porsche or Rolls costs a lot but they cost that because of the quality and what they offer. The MK8 is a precision hand built instrument built by a small team in limited numbers with a Kluge/Steinway keyboard, (same as a Fazioli, Steinway) and unique advanced preamp, assignable expression and analogue effects. Plus its a brand new REAL Rhodes with warranty. Just saying it’s expensive is missing the point.
@@goldphinga Oh here we go. Nevermind that Crumar was making something similar for less than this for years now. It's like saying I'm ignorant of other products by other manufacturers or just plain ignorant of the cost of the original models by the same company through the years, of which I've personally owned 2/still have one that I paid 500 bucks for.
Ohhh analog effects like the pedals I already own? That's worth 5k alone, no actually it's not. You are the one who is missing the point which is the following:
The MK8 can suck it, you can suck it, live long and suck it.
I just want to say a heartfelt thank you for your kind words, positive energy, factually correct information and especially the closing statement which is surely one of the most intelligent, mature and obviously poetic responses I think I’ve ever witnessed on the internets. You win the troll hall of fame of course. 😂🏆
I will like this comment when I can play chords on your car.
@@sampitomusic my car gets me to work so i can pay rent, i think that's plenty ty
It seems like they always just talk about effects. Sappy, overdriven, over saturated wildly distorted sounds that everyone raves about sounding so great. At this point I'm starting to think they must not be too happy with their actual Rhodes sound. Are people buying this to be a synth?
Probably sadly yes. I, though only 18 years old, am a strict, thickheaded old soul/traditionalist when it comes to music. I believe a synth should stay a synth and an electric piano should stay an ELECTRIC DARN PIANO!!🤬🫢😳 “my sincerest apologies…I seem to have…lost my temper.” (That was a Gatsby quote 😂 but I assume by now you understand the reason for my incredible rage😂👍🏻😒) though, I will say I DO indeed like this instrument and one day will hopefully own one. For now though, I’m sticking with getting an original👍🏻😁
A waste of money given work cheaper keyboards do about the same thing
Cool! But very expensive((
