I admit, there have been times (All too few, perhaps), where I've gone to Second Life, opened my "Logopolis" Time Capsule and totally been enthralled by the sound of the interior and it helped improve my mood.
In my mind this IS the sound i hear automatically when someone mentions TARDIS. I've never really gotten used to the different TARDIS sounds of the new series.
The biggest help The Doctor has provided me is that no matter how undefeatable them might seem to be, them still have doubts and flaws and some obscure aspects of their personality. But them try to push towards all of that to be the best possible version of him or herself, and that's when the effort pays off, to be able to overcome the difficulties. Things will become better, and so will you. Let's not lose hope.

The freezers in our local supermarket sound identical to this classic sound; no doubt this was where the BBC got it from.
I am an HVAC technician and I'll tell ya. This sounds like a worn out ac compressor.

I recognise this sound from trying a Flash (I think) simulator of the TARDIS a while back and it used this version.
Why is the coat hanger painted over?
There were two sounds - this was for the landed state. Whilst in flight, it had a different sound.

Why does it hum? Because it doesn’t know the words to the song…
I think canon wise, she could always talk. It was just fleshed out in the Matt Smith era
