- SCP-4000 is a Keter class anomaly also known as Taboo. It is an extradimensional forested area with numerous anomalous qualities, including a hazardous nomenclative phenomenon. This anomalous location is accessed by performing 4000-Halloway and after completing the procedure, subjects emerge from the opening of a dilapidated brick well fixed into the forest floor of SCP 4000.

I love how this was inspired by old English Fae! I find it interesting how instead of the usual Hot Human with elf ears, they went with a more unique approach
Yeah, Fae in British and Irish folklore are about as far from Tinkerbell as you can get. While many are akin to nature spirits, a lot are way darker.
One of the most common traits is abducting babies and replacing them. Another one is mind games, were if you encounter one, you have to be very clever and precise in something like a game of riddles if you want to leave with your skin attached to your body.
Shape shifting is common, as is tricking people into eating or drinking something from the faerie realm to trap you there.
Most folklore tales about fae is thought to be cautionary story to keep kids out of the woods late at night, so the scarier the better. At the time of them appearing, Britain still had wolves running around so a midnight stroll in the much denser wood of the time wasn't something you did alone and unarmed, like say a 9 year old.

This is actually one of the most interesting SCPs I’ve seen, and although they are odd and somewhat demented, the Fae seem pretty wholesome given you regard the rules.

I don't think it's wholesome at all. It seems they try to make you say your name in a game of mind chess to steal your identity.
That is literally the trap. You thinking they're wholesome is literally what they want. They want you to think they're nice. Because if you think they're nice, you're much more likely to lose your name to them than if you were on guard.

There's similar taboo according to the natives in Sarawak of Borneo, that you shouldn't call out one's name in the forest as spirits will use it to lure you away and alone deeper into the jungle. They also ignore any calls by their name when venturing in the jungle as it can be a trap. Many who work in the jungle respect this superstitious rule even if they don't believe it.

This is honestly one of the better written and something that shows the "Obvious" yet secretive nature of SCP's, they make the rules obvious but since the abnormalities look so innocent and harmless they constantly let their guards down and get fucked up horribly
I can only imagine the horrifying conversations held with talking 6ft tall foxes and rabbits that are trying their hardest to assign you a consistent name they can call you or tricking you into saying your own name. Idk it just seems like the awkward silence after each prying question they ask while staring into your soul must be pretty terrifying.
The fact the Creatures reference The Factory is interesting, this is either "1 Confirming that at least one of the SCP-001 Proposals is True" or "2 showing the O5 are inputting tiny references to different SCP-001 Proposal in other SCP Files to confuse any readers possibly searching for a confirmation"...
The gate guardian is also referenced multiple times. at this point people should understand that 001 spot is equally split between some scps with same validity.
The SCP-001 proposals are actually real. The multiple proposals are made to conceive which one of them is the one actually bearing the title of being the true SCP-001.

It's random amateur writers inserting references to other SCPs as a nod and wink to other writers. There is no cohesive foundation lore, just what little in-groups of writers agree on. If you visit the SCP IRC it's actually a little circle-jerky.
This SCP seems more cumbersome than scary. Of course it's plenty scary to begin with.
Sometimes an scp with overly complicated rules is more scary than a simple scp that kills you the second you close your eyes or the scp that kills you when you look at it's picture...
The forest thing, where you can accept gifts but not eat anything, is similar to folk tales here in the Philippines. If a non human entity takes a person to their own land/world, they will be treated like guests and offered with gifts and food. You can accept the gifts but to not take it back to our world and if you eat or drink anything, you won't be able to come back. Also, when you feel like you are going around in circles and even if you change directions you end up on your starting point, you are being played over with non human entities and plan to take you. The solution for this (as per local folklore) is to turn your clothes inside out and wear it that way. Once the clothes are turned inside out, the non human entity can't track you anymore and will leave you alone.
Honestly one of my favorite SCPS. It would be dope if they made a movie out of this one! The plot twist would be crazy good!!
