Cool build :D I’ve done around 20-30K Andy and Meph runs in total each and never even seen a soj. However I did get my first SoJ 3 weeks ago. I was farming a Monarch in the acient tunnels and while killing zombies i missclicked and accidentally kicked a jar in front of me and out a SoJ dropped. I’m telling you this game is trolling everyone.
@@smalps-gaming Yeah that’s rng for you. I’m pretty stubborn when it comes to target farming but I’ve learned that at some point you have to admit defeat and the luck is just not there atm. It’s important to switch things up or you will get burned out.
Man, rng in diablo is brutal. In my offline account I found 3 SoJ. The first one was in my first run, at nightmare Andy (probably had negative MF). It is insane. On the same run I got a Ber from Hell Radament. It feels like the harder you try looking for shit, the harder it is for them showing. Great video, man! Hope you find your. Where "ultra rare" drops are concerned, there are two factors that generally come into play: MF and speed. You can find most things in the game by just playing fast or with just high MF with a matter of time, but otherwise you leave it to luck for the rarer stuff. Yes RNG is RNG, but my my suggestion after watching is that you need to play faster. Here's why: The diminishing returns after 250% MF is not worth any sacrifice of significant speed. I would pick a 105% FCR breakpoint Sorc with 250%MF anything with lower FCR and an extra MF. With 250% MF, SOJ from 1P NM Andy is ~1:1698, 1:1435 with 500% MF (~13% more likely than 250MF), and ~1:1273 with 1000% MF (~33% more likely than 250%). If you can justify the 33% increase in true MF drop chance for a unique vs a more speed optimal set-up, then no problem here. Secondly, I realise that some time is lost because you are recording, talking, etc, but your first NM Andy run takes over a minute and that's not including the game re-joining loading times. I'm pretty sure I was running NM Andy in under 30 seconds. That's an equivalent of a >100% increased chance of SOJ. I don't necessarily think it's your gear slowing you down. For example, I used to buff my sorc in the tail end of the loading screen and move her within telekinesis range of the WP before I even had the visuals. Yes this only saves 1-2 seconds. But all these tricks add up to maybe 10 seconds, a huge time saving and big increased chance. Also, a comment relating to the part where you are in the CS. Frozen Orb is not a great skill IMO. It's not good for trash mobs and "OK" for boss killing. I appreciate that not everyone gels with Blizzard (I am one of those who rather dislike this skill because of its behaviour). Frost Nova is awesome but you definitely do not get to keep the high MF in this setup. Lastly, I recommend playing a classic Sorc and killing hell Andy if you only want SOJ and don't care about other drops. I can't remember the drop rate, but it's much higher. This is because only Nagel and Manald are competing in the unique pool with weightings of 10/21 each and SOH at 1/21 (from memory). If you throw in Raven Frost, Dwarf Star, etc, the total of 21 increases and dilute your chances quite dramatically. You'll find Unique rings quite regularly and knowing it's only 1:21 each time can be quite encouraging/motivating to keep going. If you follow the above recommendation, then take heed: DO NOT FARM NM ANDY ON CLASSIC BECAUSE SOJ WILL NOT DROP! Classic NM Andy cannot access the treasure class containing SOJ. To make it worth your time raising a classic Sorc, be prepared to farm a couple of SOJs at least to make it worth your time. Raising a classic sorc that can efficiently kill hell Andy is in fact a challenge in it's own right because of gear limitations and the lack of other players online (it's basically dead there). I genuinely hope this helps and that you don't perceive this as being overly critical. I'm not trying to say anything other than something that you might find useful! Good luck :-)
First of all, love all the detail and the thoughtful response! My typical setup is 105 FCR and 200 MF. Which has a high clear speed. But in all that time running with that setup, still no SOJ. So that was the reason for making this build and pumping it up. It's really a meme build to see if it can be done at such a high number without losing the 105 FCR breakpoint and all the clear speed. You can see that it wasn't the best in hell CS, so it's really not ideal. But it's doable if that is your thing. Keep in mind that this is Nintendo Switch ONLINE. NM Andy run in 30 seconds only seems possible if you are doing it on SP and already know the way. Sometimes it just takes 1-2 min to even find the stairs in the random level 3 map! Once I reach Andy, hop over the wall, static, 1 FO, and then wait for my merc to kill Andy, the difference in time if I just killed Andy myself at that moment, would be like 5 seconds. I could just kill Andy with 550 MF and it would be instant. The major time suck is finding Andy. I don't like blizzard, that is true. One reason is that blizzard is not great on console. It's hard to aim. My setup is CLFO because it has fast clear speeds, can kill bosses fast, and stack 200 MF easily without loss of power or breakpoints. The point is to find SOJ on this character, not switch to classic just to farm an SOJ.(I do have 3 SOJs already, just never dropped one myself) I don't think you are being overly critical and I love your response and opinion. What I love about this game is there is an infinite number of ways to play and everyone had their own opinions and ideas. They are all good! I just find it funny that I have invested 1900 hours into D2R and have not dropped a single SOJ, where I am hearing of people, who are more casual players dropping multiple! The conditions I am playing under, Nintendo switch, which is slow. Online so there are no static maps, Players limited to P4 on switch, but no matter because this is P1 NM Andy because I'm just trying to farm it fast. @@smalps-gaming Yeah, RNG can be brutal sometimes. I once ran something like 250 pit runs over a few evening and the only rate/notable item that kept dropping was Azurewrath, which was 3 times in a row... It was one of the worst cases of Bull S*** Bingo I have ever experienced. 3.5 hours for 100 Andy runs is also quite brutal. Appreciate the limitations for switch given my brother plays D2 on one also. I don't have the heart to tell him what I'm finding half the time because he can't keep up. He's having fun through and that's all that matters!
Great content. I'm similarly affected - hundreds if not thousands of hours between D2LOD and D2R (nearly all single player or TCP-IP back in the day) and never seen one. I'm certain they don't actually exist.

@@smalps-gaming I've been counting items up and vs when I run my hammerdin on xbox to my switch..I obtain more armor items on xbox,and more runes on switch. Running the same 3 areas,the exact same amount of times. It's so weird. I wonder if it has to do with player cap being 4 on switch?? Idk.

I know I sound crazy. I did 300 trav runs on my hammerdin on hell last week in one day on xbox,got one ber one Ist. Did 300 trav runs on switch got 1 ber,1 Ist,2 cham,1 Ohm. I've been exclusively grinding runes only on switch this week and will continue next week.
Of the half dozen or so Soj's I've found, most came from random monsters, not bosses. Several came from chests, urns, stumps, etc. Have also gambled 2 in the past few months. Should be added I use a horking barb, so double+ drops. With switch of double-isted 6os pb's for horking, the barbs mf is just shy of 800, with my merc around 130'ish.
@@TheFlyingZulu Why would I waste time saying it if it hadn't happened? Personally I think some people are just unlucky with certain things. I have a friend in game who's never found a Soj either. Even spent 8 hours straight the other day with the gambling trick with him to get him one... neither of us did, which was a surprise. For me it's Griffons Eye, though I have found a few back in the Lod days.
Ive never found one either in 20years...2 ondals a few stormlashes and a near perf deaths web even every rune except ber..but not a single SOJ to find.
Damn...it's just so wild cruising all the D2R content and people coming back to the game that have been playing even before the remaster came out, still haven't found a certain item. And then like someone above this said they're just casual player finding 5 or more. Insane. For me the bane of my existence is high runes literally never gotten higher than a Lem and that's with 5 years played on the original and now level 85 sorc still no high runes yet hey 😅🤣

Llama and others have recently just found their first Zod and has been playing professionally for 2 decades or more. Ive found multiple of all HRs except Zod. Zero SOJ in 20 years playing. 1900 hours in D2R. Level 99 sorc, killing everything. 🤷🏻♂️
hey, i regularly farm my soj for the season from nm andy myself, all you do is make sure you NM bug andy, use blizzard w/o sunder is fine, 220 in a full game preferably while they do baal runs you slap her. I always get one off her each season.
Just make sure you can beat dCLone! I think anni is technically better than a single SOJ. So I think the trade off it worth it. I still have not found an SOJ as of 09/29/2023!
NM Andy has been my go to for soj's. Found 5-6 pre ladder in a month. About 500 mf. 4 hours a day with a run being around 2 mins or less. More hours on the weekends.
yea, that is the nature of RNG. Sometimes it just doesn't happen. It took me 24 years of playing this game before finding the first one. But since finding my first. I've found about 4 total now. So about the same. 4k+ hours in D2R.

I think it’s crazy I haven’t found any either. Not only the 1900 hours ive played on switch D2R but also all the time Ive played on PC LOD! I think something is up with the RNG.
I found one SoJ on the way to the Countess from an Champion(I think it was a Ghost)with 130 Mf.That was a bunch of Mobs,I dont see the mob.I kill them by the door.Over 300 Mf it dont work better,it feels all the same
NICE congrats. I am still waiting. There is a point where you don't need more MF. Because there are diminishing returns the more you add. 200-300 is the ideal number of MF for general purposes. 1000 is overkill haha
Startet playing D2 in 2000 and never found a SOJ, just gambled some in the early days (were it was easy). Now restarted at D2R on Xbox and made a ladder char and did the Rada quest on NM and some random enemy dropped the SOJ....
I got my 1st 2nd and 3rd SoJ this week running hell Andy and Meph. Lots of good drops in addition with 370mf online non ladder. Best week ever, been playing since Dec 2022
The only SoJ I remember finding was from a random key run... it dropped from the Summoner when playing D2R. Lol. I don't remember ever finding one way back in the day in the original game.
And quick question I used to play on pc back in the day and have to play on switch now cuz I just don’t have the means to get a pc set up and I kinda miss playing on the pc, did you play back in the day and do you wish you could play on pc as well or?
Yea I played LOD back in the day. Got my CLFO sorc upto level 94 in that one. Have a video linked to that somewhere on here! And no I don’t miss playing on PC. I like playing on console better. Easier access to skills and buttons. Movement is nicer on switch and an underrated part of the game. Loot to cube is nice. I won’t be playing on PC. how can you put something into horadric cube directly? I saw you press A button at 08:41. is it a skill for pick up??? a new function only for NS? like the 1000mf in order to farm a soj🤣👍
Haha! On console, since you cannot open your inventory and still play(it takes up the whole screen) they give you a skill that is “loot to cube” so that you can pick up items directly to your cube. I have my loot to cube skill mapped to ZL+A
This is perhaps a stupid question but do you have a play guide or some tips for controller players? I just can’t transition from keyboard and mouse to controller for this game. The use of hydra, meteor, blizzard, teeth, etc just don’t work as well on controller in my opinion.
haha yea. So just in general there are certain builds that don't play well on controller or take some time getting used to. Blizzard is one of those. Because on controller there is no way to accurately aim the blizzard. It does have auto aim, so it will target a monster that you are like facing. FO is better on controller because of the way it aims. Tele stomp builds are OK on controller because you don't really have to aim much. The builds I play now are Nova, Trap and Fire Druid. I had a kicksin setup and that was okay. I feel like melee would be OK for controller because moving the character is nice on controller. If that is your style.

Your nutty dude. i Only do hell andy runs when im seeking a soj, on ladder reset actually got a soj my first andy run after i lvled a bit. Doing Nm runs cuts out on alot of very valuable loot an rune drops. With the way Rng Works on this game and after 1000s of hours i would recommend Hell vs Nm. GG tho. Also i would tell you to take around 3-400 mf an be fast. GG tho bro nice build

Yes you can farm terrorized Andi on normal. Non terrorized Andi on NM can only drop 3 unique rings. Nagel, Manald, and SOJ. Terrorized Andi in Hell is a great way to farm. Ideally better on SP than online though.
You should main hand Suicide Branch and use Chancies. Drop the SoJ for another Nagel. If you’re already wasting time letting Merc get the kill, you may as well do it right. Although… the game doesn’t do decimals, so MF works like breakpoints. Quick Google, looks like the formula is (MF x 250)/(MF+250). So 1000mf is 250,000/1250=200mf for uniques. If you had 930MF, it’s 197MF for uniques. So 70 more mf from 930 to 1000 only ups your unique chances by 3%. HOWEVER, this is still just your effective MF that goes up by 3%. When you punch the numbers into the item calculator, your SoJ odds go from 1:1285 to 1:1273, or roughly 1% better chance of an SoJ from NM Andy if you go from 930 to 1000MF. Or quite simply, if you kill her an infinite number of times, that 70mf difference is equivalent to a 12 kill savings per ~1300 kills. Not great. Finding SoJs isn’t the same as finding TC87 uniques either. The issue with TC87 uniques is that once you’re targeting specific things, you need that base item to roll unique if it ever gets chosen, and they get chosen very infrequently. So it can actually be beneficial to sacrifice kill speed (fewer rolls) for higher quality rolls (more MF). But SoJs are different. You will find lots of rings from Andy. And each unique only has a 1 in 31 chance of being an SoJ. You can sacrifice some efficiency (high mf) for speed (more kills). If a single player run takes about 30 seconds, if you can get that time down to 27 seconds, you’ll find about 10% more rings. 750 vs 1000 mf isn’t worth a 10% time loss. Or in other words, you’re probably better off not waiting for merc to get kills.
Wow!! Thanks for all this detail and research! That’s great to know. The runs actually take longer because it’s online and it’s hard to find the stairs down. This would be much better on SP farming wise. The runs can take 1-2 min. Extra 10 seconds is probably not hurting me. This type of farming is not for me. I just made this build to try and target farm without sacrificing so much power and kill speed. 1000 is a high benchmark to hit, and overkill. It’s not really ideal. I already switched off this topic. My build is typically 200 MF with fast clear speeds and AoE.
Ha… I didn’t catch that it wasn’t SP. Personally, I would roll the dice on Hell because the other loot makes up for fewer SoJs. Throw a Reapers on Merc.

Your mercs magic find doesn't matter unless you let him get the final shot. And then his magic find is combined with yours. If you finish the boss you only benefit from your magic find. Read that somewhere

YES! Same here. I did play on PC when playing LOD back in the day and I like playing controller better. I know there are PC purists out there, but the movement on controller makes more sense, and easier access to the skill buttons is really nice. Positives and negatives to both, but I prefer controller.
Quickcast and custom hotkeys can also make a huge difference when playing on the computer. I love my nova sorc on controller but disliked it with blizzard.
@@smalps-gaming Its probably only on pc since it wouldnt make sense on console. In the "normal" mode, you have f1-f8 to choose your spells and then left or right click the mouse to cast them. Which custom Hotkeys, you can have your spells on any button you want. And with quickcast, the spell will be cast on the cursor position when hitting the button on the keyboard. For example, if I hit 'F' it teleport, with 'A' I do Nova and with 'S' static field. I like playing on my gamepad on pc, but regarding trading and organizing my inventory or crafting, I really love to have my mouse :)
The runes make sense for 0 MF! But the SOJ is wild. Sometimes I feel like the game feels bad for you and gives you stiff when you are “under geared” does it ever seem like that?

I’ve found a soj and really could not believe it after a thousand manalds and nagels and everything else. I still haven’t found a Jah ever. Only what 20ish years

Nice man! what is casual? How many hours? Also, I was big into LOD back in the day, so when d2r hit, I knew the game well, and knew how the economy worked. Helps but Im glad you got your stuff to hang in hell. Hell is basically when the game STARTS!

Super casual player here, first week of d2r, a SoJ from the random desert monster on act2, my second and third soj on season2, from andy hell, but, never found a high rune like ber or jah, one Sur and one Lo, to me the ideal is 200mf
Some of the highest MF builds can hit around 1700 and kill NM andy with ease. But with that much MF you usually have to sacrifice damage and or life so Hell Andy would be a problem.
Hell wasn’t really a problem. I didn’t tank the build so much and still do some dmg because a lot of the MF comes from the merc. But the reason for the build was not for hell. It was only for NM andy
People seem to have better luck with nova builds, there's a lot of emphasis on MF but killing quickly might be even more important - not something you can easily quantify...
I do agree that kill speed is better. Every kill is a slot machine pull. For example: if a diadem drops, you have about 1% chance of it being a griffons with 0% MF, if you had 200~ MF, that chance goes to 2%, and with 1000~ MF that chance goes to 3%. So either way, its still pretty 💩 luck! Might as well kill fast and get more chances than having higher MF.

That’s a common misconception. You see more blue because your MF is so high, but it still increases your chances for unique Items. The tipping point is when your MF number slows down your clear speed.

@@WorstDraven Farming Andy on NM online P1 is not the best method to find an SOJ for sure. Farming NM Andy for an SOJ is mostly an offline method. Because the maps are static and you can speed farm that way with a higher clear speed. In this example, it only slows down the clear by a second. I understand a second over a long amount of time ads up, but the real time issue isn't letting the merc kill andy, its finding andy on a random map online.

For offline players for sure the best method, but online I would really recommend farming hell spots instead of going for a soj 😃 it's just 1 floor that is randomized. The 3rd floor is always anti clockwise from waypoint. With 200% fcr pretty easy to do Andy 2 times a minute 😬
Imo, your sacrifice way too much kill speed for MF. Much better to do 30sec runs with 300MF than 1min runs with 1000MF. I’ve hunted soj before and I usually get 1 per day on single player with a static map.
i might be trippin but on my hdin and sorc when i was playing d2lod, i experimented with different PRECISE MF%s first one was 252 then 322, then 369, then 432, then 666 cuz ooo sppoky Diablo evil number. but i found after a certain % you get more BLUES than anything else. i think after around 720-850 you just get mostly blue drops. uniques and yellows drop more between 252-432 also somewhere between 505 and 666 also has good drops. but 1k+ is not exactly the best... at least not back in d2lod. as for d2r i think they re-did their entire MF tables. to straight up drop %s that ignore MF% altogether... cept perhaps minor differential.
There are actually some MF breakpoints. They are soft though, but its not like 666 is the best or anything or has some magical number. More MF is not going to give you MORE Blue's than a unique or Rare, because the order at which the game rolls(checks MF) is Unique > Set > Rare > magic. It just feels like you are seeing more blues because you ARE, but because you are getting less white items. So having more is not going to hurt your chances of getting Uniques for example. There is no indication that MF rolls have been changed in D2R vs LOD. The only things that have changed this are Terrorzones. Because it changes the Mlevel, and drop tables.

Haven’t finished watching but just to say how bad rng trolls the better part of ppl. I got my soj third Andy run on less than 150 mf and a jah from a mob in act 2. This game is pure evil sometimes
@@cl8804 With Sunders people run Blizzard and Orb. Get the target and AoE from Orb. I've always favored Orb over Blizzard though. Just like the play style better with Orb. And it's better on console.
I have found an SOJ from the trav looking dudes before mephisto and From a random skeleton doing shenk runs and a few from andy and a few elsewhere and thats just in D2R

The MF base is for higher level items from places like hell pindlskin. you dont run 1000 mf on nm andy, your % is higher based then the ilevel from the boss. your Unique ring base will almost always be above an SOJ, its hard to explain but you have to lower your MF.i guess its ilevel% vs mf vs ilevel boss x %. itd hard to explain
NM Andy has 1/33 chance a unique ring will be an SOJ. Norm Diablo can also drop SOJ same odds. Have found about 6 SOJ's. 300-450mf is enough, 1k mf is overkill. FB is the only attack skill you need! Andy is weak to fire.
bro. I got one when firewall was op. I got one randomly when I was hosting a cow run in nightmare. I killed andy first and BAM! SOJ! The game was full. I think the best way to farm these is get 7 homies to do mf runs with exclusively
kekw, i did 5k mephisto runs for draculs grasp on hell and it says it's 1 in 600 on players 3 with 350 mf. i assume i'm the luckiest person in the world with finding the odd number of not getting it.
Spoiler for those who don't know. You can increase your drop rate for soj by playing classic and doing nm Andy. Used to just convert nox to xpac with soj mules

Untrue. You always have a better chance to get unique items the more MF you have. The reason it feels like you get more blue items the more MF you have is because of failed sets and or uniques. But the game checks what quality the item is in this order: unique>set>rare>magic etc. so it will never prevent you from rolling a unique no matter how much MF you have. This is a method of elite sniping. Only targeting bosses, and champions etc. It's one method. killing everything and opening every popable is another method.

I got super lucky this past season was farming hell countess for runes and found a soj from her. Same day had a double ist drop from her. After that got trash for days lol. Guess I used up my RNG luck. I had like maybe 100 mf at the time

@@AGVenge there are still a number of strong sorc builds. Blizzard, lightning, nova, firewall, etc. yes, sunder allows for builds to be a single element now.
Not sure if you have already done so, but I've been clearing trash as well as packs and uniques. Mainly chaos sanctuary. Mostly luck. Finally found a shako but it was ethereal. So yeah I have my bad lucks too
Sadly no players 8 here. This is not SP and on NS max player count is 4. So this can really only be done on P1. 200-300 is ideal. But i maxed out for best odds. And kept 105 breakpoints and somewhat high clear speeds. Didn’t want to completely nerf with so much MF.

Dont you love how probabilities work? If SOJ is 1/31 chance of success, it would take about 32 tries. However, by how d2r drop mechanics work, magic find will only limit the amount of normal items you find. Meaning there is a chance that the 1/31 is based off what is probable after the small divisions in percentage of total drop. I.E the difference in drop rate for normal versus magic item and further into the differences of drop rates between rare, unique and set. In other words, most of these websites for probability drops are probably based off the wrong information... ಠ﹏ಠ I think on average after acquiring 100 unidentified rings, you should find around 3 SOJ's. Which aligns closely to the 32 tries till success. Yup! Totally agree with that. IF and the big IF is, IF a unique ring drops in NM Andy, its a 1/3 chance that it is an SOJ, because it can only be 1 of 3 Unique rings. But the odds that a ring at all drops, and then the odds that its unique vs, rare, set, or magic is crazy. Still haven't found an SOJ.

I play on computer I had no idea that the graphics and fps were so bad on console. it looks like crap. Start playing on a computer instead you're missing out on half the experience because of the poor graphics and fps

I want to say hell andy and travincal maybe the council in the hate 3. It’s so long ago. Not saying it was often on the self found. I think I found all the grails except a tyreal and 2 sock coa legit however they did drop in games I was in. Just didn’t get them.
I get that it can drop at Hell andy. I just picked NM Andy because its easier, and because the odds are technically better. So for me, who doesn't need any other ideas to drop and only the SOJ. It was the better choice.

I’ve done around 20-30K Andy and Meph runs in total each and never even seen a soj.
However I did get my first SoJ 3 weeks ago. I was farming a Monarch in the acient tunnels and while killing zombies i missclicked and accidentally kicked a jar in front of me and out a SoJ dropped. I’m telling you this game is trolling everyone.
Wow!! That’s a lot of runs and then when you least expect it! I won’t be target farming it anymore but at this rate, probably will never find one.

Man, rng in diablo is brutal. In my offline account I found 3 SoJ. The first one was in my first run, at nightmare Andy (probably had negative MF). It is insane. On the same run I got a Ber from Hell Radament. It feels like the harder you try looking for shit, the harder it is for them showing.

Where "ultra rare" drops are concerned, there are two factors that generally come into play: MF and speed. You can find most things in the game by just playing fast or with just high MF with a matter of time, but otherwise you leave it to luck for the rarer stuff. Yes RNG is RNG, but my my suggestion after watching is that you need to play faster. Here's why:
The diminishing returns after 250% MF is not worth any sacrifice of significant speed. I would pick a 105% FCR breakpoint Sorc with 250%MF anything with lower FCR and an extra MF. With 250% MF, SOJ from 1P NM Andy is ~1:1698, 1:1435 with 500% MF (~13% more likely than 250MF), and ~1:1273 with 1000% MF (~33% more likely than 250%). If you can justify the 33% increase in true MF drop chance for a unique vs a more speed optimal set-up, then no problem here.
Secondly, I realise that some time is lost because you are recording, talking, etc, but your first NM Andy run takes over a minute and that's not including the game re-joining loading times. I'm pretty sure I was running NM Andy in under 30 seconds. That's an equivalent of a >100% increased chance of SOJ. I don't necessarily think it's your gear slowing you down. For example, I used to buff my sorc in the tail end of the loading screen and move her within telekinesis range of the WP before I even had the visuals. Yes this only saves 1-2 seconds. But all these tricks add up to maybe 10 seconds, a huge time saving and big increased chance.
Also, a comment relating to the part where you are in the CS. Frozen Orb is not a great skill IMO. It's not good for trash mobs and "OK" for boss killing. I appreciate that not everyone gels with Blizzard (I am one of those who rather dislike this skill because of its behaviour). Frost Nova is awesome but you definitely do not get to keep the high MF in this setup.
Lastly, I recommend playing a classic Sorc and killing hell Andy if you only want SOJ and don't care about other drops. I can't remember the drop rate, but it's much higher. This is because only Nagel and Manald are competing in the unique pool with weightings of 10/21 each and SOH at 1/21 (from memory). If you throw in Raven Frost, Dwarf Star, etc, the total of 21 increases and dilute your chances quite dramatically. You'll find Unique rings quite regularly and knowing it's only 1:21 each time can be quite encouraging/motivating to keep going.
If you follow the above recommendation, then take heed: DO NOT FARM NM ANDY ON CLASSIC BECAUSE SOJ WILL NOT DROP! Classic NM Andy cannot access the treasure class containing SOJ. To make it worth your time raising a classic Sorc, be prepared to farm a couple of SOJs at least to make it worth your time. Raising a classic sorc that can efficiently kill hell Andy is in fact a challenge in it's own right because of gear limitations and the lack of other players online (it's basically dead there).
I genuinely hope this helps and that you don't perceive this as being overly critical. I'm not trying to say anything other than something that you might find useful!

First of all, love all the detail and the thoughtful response! My typical setup is 105 FCR and 200 MF. Which has a high clear speed. But in all that time running with that setup, still no SOJ. So that was the reason for making this build and pumping it up. It's really a meme build to see if it can be done at such a high number without losing the 105 FCR breakpoint and all the clear speed. You can see that it wasn't the best in hell CS, so it's really not ideal. But it's doable if that is your thing.
Keep in mind that this is Nintendo Switch ONLINE. NM Andy run in 30 seconds only seems possible if you are doing it on SP and already know the way. Sometimes it just takes 1-2 min to even find the stairs in the random level 3 map! Once I reach Andy, hop over the wall, static, 1 FO, and then wait for my merc to kill Andy, the difference in time if I just killed Andy myself at that moment, would be like 5 seconds. I could just kill Andy with 550 MF and it would be instant. The major time suck is finding Andy.
I don't like blizzard, that is true. One reason is that blizzard is not great on console. It's hard to aim. My setup is CLFO because it has fast clear speeds, can kill bosses fast, and stack 200 MF easily without loss of power or breakpoints.
The point is to find SOJ on this character, not switch to classic just to farm an SOJ.(I do have 3 SOJs already, just never dropped one myself)
I don't think you are being overly critical and I love your response and opinion. What I love about this game is there is an infinite number of ways to play and everyone had their own opinions and ideas. They are all good!
I just find it funny that I have invested 1900 hours into D2R and have not dropped a single SOJ, where I am hearing of people, who are more casual players dropping multiple!
The conditions I am playing under, Nintendo switch, which is slow. Online so there are no static maps, Players limited to P4 on switch, but no matter because this is P1 NM Andy because I'm just trying to farm it fast. I committed to 100 runs and that is about all I could do. Took about 3.5 hours.

@@smalps-gaming Yeah, RNG can be brutal sometimes. I once ran something like 250 pit runs over a few evening and the only rate/notable item that kept dropping was Azurewrath, which was 3 times in a row... It was one of the worst cases of Bull S*** Bingo I have ever experienced.
3.5 hours for 100 Andy runs is also quite brutal. Appreciate the limitations for switch given my brother plays D2 on one also. I don't have the heart to tell him what I'm finding half the time because he can't keep up. He's having fun through and that's all that matters!

Great content. I'm similarly affected - hundreds if not thousands of hours between D2LOD and D2R (nearly all single player or TCP-IP back in the day) and never seen one. I'm certain they don't actually exist.

I've been exclusively grinding runes only on switch this week and will continue next week.
Of the half dozen or so Soj's I've found, most came from random monsters, not bosses. Several came from chests, urns, stumps, etc. Have also gambled 2 in the past few months. Should be added I use a horking barb, so double+ drops. With switch of double-isted 6os pb's for horking, the barbs mf is just shy of 800, with my merc around 130'ish.
Still though! Half dozen!! Wtf. How can my RNG be that off? Zero! 1900 hours. Level 99 sorc.

Even spent 8 hours straight the other day with the gambling trick with him to get him one... neither of us did, which was a surprise. For me it's Griffons Eye, though I have found a few back in the Lod days.

Damn...it's just so wild cruising all the D2R content and people coming back to the game that have been playing even before the remaster came out, still haven't found a certain item. And then like someone above this said they're just casual player finding 5 or more. Insane. For me the bane of my existence is high runes literally never gotten higher than a Lem and that's with 5 years played on the original and now level 85 sorc still no high runes yet hey 😅🤣

hey, i regularly farm my soj for the season from nm andy myself, all you do is make sure you NM bug andy, use blizzard w/o sunder is fine, 220 in a full game preferably while they do baal runs you slap her. I always get one off her each season.

Btw now you dont want to bug andy. Blizzard "fixed" her loot table. If you bug her, she wont "unlock" her higher loot table from being terrorized

Just make sure you can beat dCLone! I think anni is technically better than a single SOJ. So I think the trade off it worth it.

NM Andy has been my go to for soj's. Found 5-6 pre ladder in a month. About 500 mf. 4 hours a day with a run being around 2 mins or less. More hours on the weekends.

I found 3 sojs in season 7 and 1 solo single player just recently. So it surprises me someone who farms a lot like you wouldn't find sojs.
yea, that is the nature of RNG. Sometimes it just doesn't happen. It took me 24 years of playing this game before finding the first one. But since finding my first. I've found about 4 total now. So about the same. 4k+ hours in D2R.

I found one SoJ on the way to the Countess from an Champion(I think it was a Ghost)with 130 Mf.That was a bunch of Mobs,I dont see the mob.I kill them by the door.Over 300 Mf it dont work better,it feels all the same
NICE congrats. I am still waiting. There is a point where you don't need more MF. Because there are diminishing returns the more you add. 200-300 is the ideal number of MF for general purposes. 1000 is overkill haha
Startet playing D2 in 2000 and never found a SOJ, just gambled some in the early days (were it was easy). Now restarted at D2R on Xbox and made a ladder char and did the Rada quest on NM and some random enemy dropped the SOJ....

The only SoJ I remember finding was from a random key run... it dropped from the Summoner when playing D2R. Lol. I don't remember ever finding one way back in the day in the original game.

Yea I played LOD back in the day. Got my CLFO sorc upto level 94 in that one. Have a video linked to that somewhere on here! And no I don’t miss playing on PC. I like playing on console better. Easier access to skills and buttons. Movement is nicer on switch and an underrated part of the game. Loot to cube is nice. I won’t be playing on PC. But check my video on D2R on switch for more details.

Haha! On console, since you cannot open your inventory and still play(it takes up the whole screen) they give you a skill that is “loot to cube” so that you can pick up items directly to your cube. I have my loot to cube skill mapped to ZL+A

This is perhaps a stupid question but do you have a play guide or some tips for controller players? I just can’t transition from keyboard and mouse to controller for this game. The use of hydra, meteor, blizzard, teeth, etc just don’t work as well on controller in my opinion.
haha yea. So just in general there are certain builds that don't play well on controller or take some time getting used to. Blizzard is one of those. Because on controller there is no way to accurately aim the blizzard. It does have auto aim, so it will target a monster that you are like facing. FO is better on controller because of the way it aims.
Tele stomp builds are OK on controller because you don't really have to aim much.
The builds I play now are Nova, Trap and Fire Druid.
I had a kicksin setup and that was okay. I feel like melee would be OK for controller because moving the character is nice on controller. If that is your style.

No the isted occy doesn’t add. But its 550 with occy setup. 755 when swapped to isted CS and isted Monarch.

Only SOJ I ever found in the years I payed D2 was going after Mephisto. One of the priests behind him dropped one.

Your nutty dude. i Only do hell andy runs when im seeking a soj, on ladder reset actually got a soj my first andy run after i lvled a bit. Doing Nm runs cuts out on alot of very valuable loot an rune drops. With the way Rng Works on this game and after 1000s of hours i would recommend Hell vs Nm. GG tho. Also i would tell you to take around 3-400 mf an be fast. GG tho bro nice build

Yes you can farm terrorized Andi on normal. Non terrorized Andi on NM can only drop 3 unique rings. Nagel, Manald, and SOJ. Terrorized Andi in Hell is a great way to farm. Ideally better on SP than online though.

You should main hand Suicide Branch and use Chancies. Drop the SoJ for another Nagel. If you’re already wasting time letting Merc get the kill, you may as well do it right.
Although… the game doesn’t do decimals, so MF works like breakpoints. Quick Google, looks like the formula is (MF x 250)/(MF+250). So 1000mf is 250,000/1250=200mf for uniques. If you had 930MF, it’s 197MF for uniques. So 70 more mf from 930 to 1000 only ups your unique chances by 3%. HOWEVER, this is still just your effective MF that goes up by 3%. When you punch the numbers into the item calculator, your SoJ odds go from 1:1285 to 1:1273, or roughly 1% better chance of an SoJ from NM Andy if you go from 930 to 1000MF. Or quite simply, if you kill her an infinite number of times, that 70mf difference is equivalent to a 12 kill savings per ~1300 kills. Not great.
Finding SoJs isn’t the same as finding TC87 uniques either. The issue with TC87 uniques is that once you’re targeting specific things, you need that base item to roll unique if it ever gets chosen, and they get chosen very infrequently. So it can actually be beneficial to sacrifice kill speed (fewer rolls) for higher quality rolls (more MF).
But SoJs are different. You will find lots of rings from Andy. And each unique only has a 1 in 31 chance of being an SoJ. You can sacrifice some efficiency (high mf) for speed (more kills). If a single player run takes about 30 seconds, if you can get that time down to 27 seconds, you’ll find about 10% more rings. 750 vs 1000 mf isn’t worth a 10% time loss. Or in other words, you’re probably better off not waiting for merc to get kills.
Wow!! Thanks for all this detail and research! That’s great to know. The runs actually take longer because it’s online and it’s hard to find the stairs down. This would be much better on SP farming wise. The runs can take 1-2 min. Extra 10 seconds is probably not hurting me.
This type of farming is not for me. I just made this build to try and target farm without sacrificing so much power and kill speed. 1000 is a high benchmark to hit, and overkill. It’s not really ideal.
I already switched off this topic. My build is typically 200 MF with fast clear speeds and AoE.

Personally, I would roll the dice on Hell because the other loot makes up for fewer SoJs. Throw a Reapers on Merc.

Your mercs magic find doesn't matter unless you let him get the final shot. And then his magic find is combined with yours. If you finish the boss you only benefit from your magic find. Read that somewhere

YES! Same here. I did play on PC when playing LOD back in the day and I like playing controller better. I know there are PC purists out there, but the movement on controller makes more sense, and easier access to the skill buttons is really nice. Positives and negatives to both, but I prefer controller.
Quickcast and custom hotkeys can also make a huge difference when playing on the computer. I love my nova sorc on controller but disliked it with blizzard.

In the "normal" mode, you have f1-f8 to choose your spells and then left or right click the mouse to cast them.
Which custom Hotkeys, you can have your spells on any button you want.
And with quickcast, the spell will be cast on the cursor position when hitting the button on the keyboard.
For example, if I hit 'F' it teleport, with 'A' I do Nova and with 'S' static field.
I like playing on my gamepad on pc, but regarding trading and organizing my inventory or crafting, I really love to have my mouse :)

No it doesn’t work that way. Rings has rarity and soj is 1. The two others are high so probably 1 out of 20 u rings is soj not 1 out of 3.
I don’t mean the odds I’m saying if a unique ring drops from Andy, there are only 3 possible rings it could be: mandal, nagel and SOJ. “Can only be 1 of 3 rings”
I’ve found a soj and really could not believe it after a thousand manalds and nagels and everything else. I still haven’t found a Jah ever. Only what 20ish years

Super casual player here, first week of d2r, a SoJ from the random desert monster on act2, my second and third soj on season2, from andy hell, but, never found a high rune like ber or jah, one Sur and one Lo, to me the ideal is 200mf

Some of the highest MF builds can hit around 1700 and kill NM andy with ease. But with that much MF you usually have to sacrifice damage and or life so Hell Andy would be a problem.
Hell wasn’t really a problem. I didn’t tank the build so much and still do some dmg because a lot of the MF comes from the merc. But the reason for the build was not for hell. It was only for NM andy

People seem to have better luck with nova builds, there's a lot of emphasis on MF but killing quickly might be even more important - not something you can easily quantify...
I do agree that kill speed is better. Every kill is a slot machine pull. For example: if a diadem drops, you have about 1% chance of it being a griffons with 0% MF, if you had 200~ MF, that chance goes to 2%, and with 1000~ MF that chance goes to 3%. So either way, its still pretty 💩 luck! Might as well kill fast and get more chances than having higher MF.

That’s a common misconception. You see more blue because your MF is so high, but it still increases your chances for unique Items. The tipping point is when your MF number slows down your clear speed.

@@WorstDraven Farming Andy on NM online P1 is not the best method to find an SOJ for sure. Farming NM Andy for an SOJ is mostly an offline method. Because the maps are static and you can speed farm that way with a higher clear speed. In this example, it only slows down the clear by a second. I understand a second over a long amount of time ads up, but the real time issue isn't letting the merc kill andy, its finding andy on a random map online.

For offline players for sure the best method, but online I would really recommend farming hell spots instead of going for a soj 😃 it's just 1 floor that is randomized. The 3rd floor is always anti clockwise from waypoint. With 200% fcr pretty easy to do Andy 2 times a minute 😬

Imo, your sacrifice way too much kill speed for MF. Much better to do 30sec runs with 300MF than 1min runs with 1000MF. I’ve hunted soj before and I usually get 1 per day on single player with a static map.
So much easier offline with a static map. The major thing slowing down the runs is finding the way down online. And because it’s P1.
i might be trippin but on my hdin and sorc when i was playing d2lod, i experimented with different PRECISE MF%s
first one was 252 then 322, then 369, then 432, then 666 cuz ooo sppoky Diablo evil number.
but i found after a certain % you get more BLUES than anything else.
i think after around 720-850 you just get mostly blue drops.
uniques and yellows drop more between 252-432
also somewhere between 505 and 666 also has good drops.
but 1k+ is not exactly the best...
at least not back in d2lod. as for d2r i think they re-did their entire MF tables. to straight up drop %s that ignore MF% altogether... cept perhaps minor differential.
There are actually some MF breakpoints. They are soft though, but its not like 666 is the best or anything or has some magical number.

More MF is just going to slow you down, and its generally accepted that clear speed is > than MF.
More MF is not going to give you MORE Blue's than a unique or Rare, because the order at which the game rolls(checks MF) is Unique > Set > Rare > magic. It just feels like you are seeing more blues because you ARE, but because you are getting less white items. So having more is not going to hurt your chances of getting Uniques for example.
There is no indication that MF rolls have been changed in D2R vs LOD. The only things that have changed this are Terrorzones. Because it changes the Mlevel, and drop tables.

The MF base is for higher level items from places like hell pindlskin. you dont run 1000 mf on nm andy, your % is higher based then the ilevel from the boss. your Unique ring base will almost always be above an SOJ, its hard to explain but you have to lower your MF.i guess its ilevel% vs mf vs ilevel boss x %. itd hard to explain
NM Andy has 1/33 chance a unique ring will be an SOJ.
Norm Diablo can also drop SOJ same odds.

Untrue. You always have a better chance to get unique items the more MF you have. The reason it feels like you get more blue items the more MF you have is because of failed sets and or uniques. But the game checks what quality the item is in this order: unique>set>rare>magic etc. so it will never prevent you from rolling a unique no matter how much MF you have.

The problem is you are only killing andy. You have to kill everything and open every box.
This is a method of elite sniping. Only targeting bosses, and champions etc. It's one method. killing everything and opening every popable is another method.

I got super lucky this past season was farming hell countess for runes and found a soj from her. Same day had a double ist drop from her. After that got trash for days lol. Guess I used up my RNG luck.

@@AGVenge there are still a number of strong sorc builds. Blizzard, lightning, nova, firewall, etc. yes, sunder allows for builds to be a single element now.

I was running high mf but honestly think having better gear and players 8 is a better route with like 200-300 mf.
Sadly no players 8 here. This is not SP and on NS max player count is 4. So this can really only be done on P1. 200-300 is ideal. But i maxed out for best odds. And kept 105 breakpoints and somewhat high clear speeds. Didn’t want to completely nerf with so much MF.

Dont you love how probabilities work? If SOJ is 1/31 chance of success, it would take about 32 tries. However, by how d2r drop mechanics work, magic find will only limit the amount of normal items you find. Meaning there is a chance that the 1/31 is based off what is probable after the small divisions in percentage of total drop. I.E the difference in drop rate for normal versus magic item and further into the differences of drop rates between rare, unique and set. In other words, most of these websites for probability drops are probably based off the wrong information... ಠ﹏ಠ
I think on average after acquiring 100 unidentified rings, you should find around 3 SOJ's. Which aligns closely to the 32 tries till success. Meaning magic find will only increase the number of unidentified rings you can find, while keeping the percentage of identifying into a SOJ as 1/31.

Yup! Totally agree with that. IF and the big IF is, IF a unique ring drops in NM Andy, its a 1/3 chance that it is an SOJ, because it can only be 1 of 3 Unique rings. But the odds that a ring at all drops, and then the odds that its unique vs, rare, set, or magic is crazy.

I play on computer I had no idea that the graphics and fps were so bad on console. it looks like crap. Start playing on a computer instead you're missing out on half the experience because of the poor graphics and fps

All MF helps. But there is a tipping point where if it slows you down it’s no longer worthwhile.

I want to say hell andy and travincal maybe the council in the hate 3. It’s so long ago. Not saying it was often on the self found. I think I found all the grails except a tyreal and 2 sock coa legit however they did drop in games I was in. Just didn’t get them.
I get that it can drop at Hell andy. I just picked NM Andy because its easier, and because the odds are technically better. So for me, who doesn't need any other ideas to drop and only the SOJ. It was the better choice.
Pindleskin is the best place to farm. I got 4 SOJ from him & my mf only 80 🤣
