Thank you. Very informative. My issue is Ph. I have a dug well and depending on the time of year, the Ph can be very different. Also, I'm finding that my well water is Ph 6.2 right now but when it comes to water change time, the tank Ph is 7.2. So a big difference. I change 40% of the tank water, once weekly, and the fish are fine but I'm sure shrimp would not like it. Do you recommend smaller water changes with shrimp, like say 10-20%? Or do you recommend a 30% water change every other week? My tank is 98% populated per AQadvisor, but is also very heavily planted. My ammonia is always 0, nitrite 0, and my TDS varies. Nitrates are always between 5-8. Gh is 4 and Kh is 2. I'd like to try shrimp again (no success before for a number of reasons, I think) but would like your input if you have time. Thank you.
also if you keep topping up your waterline after it evaporates your pH will go up as all the hardness stays in the tank and it grows as you keep repeating the step
What am I doing wrong if I have 1 shrimp die every 3 days? I have a planted tank, water parameters are good, and none of my fish can eat them. What should I do?!?!??
thanks for info, i had no idea iron was bad for shrimps.. i lost couple of them because of that, hope they will get better when stop adding plant fertilizer to aquarium!
My favorite shrimp is struggling currently. Its limbs and antenna are moving but its tail and body are not. I don't think it will last much longer. My other shrimp are currently fine and hopefully they stay that way.
if you have old panty house, you can cut it and put it over the intake part of the filter and tie it there! that's what i do to keep my small baby fish from getting sucked in.
I just lost my first aquatic friend today after 3 months of having them. I had been using baking soda in the tanks for the pH, but I stopped for about two water changes and yesterday I added it. that's about my only explanation for the loss right now 😭
Thanks for the video and advice. Great to check as my planted tank develops...glad I didn't just add the little shrimp. I am using LCA All in One fertilizer which has copper...does anyone know off hand how long the copper lasts in the water? I am assuming this would be variable but not sure how to figure it out.
I just read the packaging for my florish tabs, had no idea there was copper in there. Most of the tabs have already devolved. They were added 3 months prior while planting, I located and removed the remaining tabs and did a 20% water change. 🤞 Hopefully that will resolve the issue. Bought some nice very dark green jade shrimp at Aquashella. Started with 10, now I have 7 alive 2.5 weeks later. Fortunately one of them was pregnant and had a few babies that I've spotted. I did order another 10 from the same seller so hopefully they will be alright. When I acclimated them I believe I did it for 1.5-2 hours via drip. The first shrimp died maybe a week or so after I bought them. Then the next was maybe a week later and the third one was this morning. Water parameters check out fine so I don't know what's going on, one of them was pretty big so I think maybe that one was just old age but I don't know, it makes me sad. They always die near (or under) the shell shaped glass feeding dish. I wonder if they're over eating? I don't feed that much in the tank since there aren't many shrimp.

There is one thing to note: you should buy a $5 TDS meter and the API GH & KH test kit. If your general hardness (GH) /carbonated harness/ (KH)/TDS differ from wherever you got the shrimp, you may have issues with shrimp not being able to molt their exoskeleton and may die from struggling.

hi! your video is very helpful. However, I would to ask a question if it's okay.. so, about 1.5 week ago, I had to move my small aquarium (7L) and take it for about 45-1hr drive. I removed most of the water so that it does not spill inside the car. Once i arrived, I immediately set up my tank again (coz everything is a mess, the plants are out of their places, dirt everywhere, etc). the shrimps seems to be fine for about 3-4 days. then, the adult shrimps started dying (one with no head, one with its skin almost peeled off, one if eaten by the others, etc). i used to have 12 adults shrimp and some baby shrimps, now I only have 1 adult shrimp left. but the baby shrimps are growing pretty fast (there are 10-11 if I counted correctly). I do not what's causing the death of my shrimps, because it seems to only affect the adults and not the kids... i am planning to buy some more shrimps, but i want to make sure that they survive, so what do you think causes the death of my shrimps? T.T
@@Zuhana_R_Iqbal you should first get an aquarium with only plants in it. if the plants survive then buy shrimps. you should also test ph before buying shrimp.
True! There were a number of shrimp that had some degree of the "Ring of Death". Need to fix that before they die! Is it that I did too much water change, the plants popping out the gravel made a spike, or was it too much panacur. I dont know. Thats why Im here. Guessing its all of them
I have lost 6-7 shrimps in last 2-3 days..these cherry shrimps were born and raised in the same tank..I did a water change yesterday and I see 1 dead again. I have been using the water from the same source and ph is between 6-7. Please help.
My shrimp died last night and it appears it’s body has exploded or expanded beyond its exoskeleton. It had molted (it’s skin was floating around the tank) and around its chest were two black stone looking things and then a white puff on the underside. Anyone have any idea what happened?
I am very confused about fish acclimation. 99% of the internet guys ( Aquarium Co-Op,Rachel O'Leary, KGTropicals) recommend Plop and drop method. I did Plop and drop method and lost half of my fish. After that i did a method that you slowly add water into the bag and all fish survived. The question is why they recommend a bad method? *Fish brought from internet
Thomas Wolsey they generally have fish that have sat in old water for possibly days. They need to get them out of that water ASAP. Also there fish rooms are already heated and have brought the bags up to temperature.
Drip applicate is recommended for sensitive fish and inverts as it allows for the water parameters (pH, gH, tds) to slowly balance out. However if you are receiving fish or livestock from delivery overnight, which have being in the bags for a while, it is recommended to plop and drop (unless very sensitive fish) BECAUSE as soon as the bag is opened, the ammonia inside the bad (due to the fish being in the bag overnight or even longer) will become a lot more toxic (Ammonia is a lot more toxic at higher pH and pH in bag will generally be a lot lower compared to normal air as CO2 from fish breathing inside bag will decrease pH of water) and could kill the already stressed fish really fast.
Should I use distilled water instead of tap water to avoid metals? If so, do I need to add anything to it? I was thinking of adding replenish for it, but I’m not sure
Novel 'ᄉ' aquasoil? Like substrate for planted tanks? No it won’t kill them... it’s actually NEEDED when keeping caradinia. But will make things very difficult if keeping neocaradinia since it will soften the water. the neocaradinia need hard water
Some flakes and algae wafers have copper and copper sulphate in them. I’ll have to go back to the fish store and get a refund after reading the ingredients
Shrimp actually have copper based blood, so they need copper to live, but too much copper will kill them. If the food is formulated for shrimp and it contains copper, you should be fine. The main danger comes from plant fertilizer or fish medication that contain too much copper for the shrimp. It's like we need oxygen to live, but it's a poisonous gas. The right amount is essential, but breathing nothing but pure oxygen will kill you.
I drip acclimate, then I keep them in a breeder box in the aquarium, so I can keep an eye on them and remove any dead ones. 24 hours later, 2 shrimp dead. 12 hours later, 4 shrimp dead.... by this time, I am NOT going to release them long story short, 2 left out of 13. all my parameters were fine, in an established aquarium..... :(
Once acclimated these things are like cockroaches, unkillable. Got some in a almost dried out old small tank, no filter for 4months, no heating, at about 10-15C. Once tried to get rid of them in a 30 liter tank with a dwarf puffer, it was a massacre, puffie shat red for weeks. Stopped the tank, stopped filter and heating and almost let it dry out,. Then after some months i decided to clean up and store the aquarium, still live cherry shrimp in the tank! They're like a plague.
@Aditya Wardhana no had him in there for about 4 5 weeks, didnt see any shrimp after that. Then months later some young still survived in the neglected, almost dried up tank
Mutation why would you have them to begin then if you’re just going to mistreat and slaughter them. How would you feel if someone thought of you and your family as nothing, like your life was nothing compared to theirs, so they just decided to let you die..slowly. No food source, in a filthy environment, suffocating. Then to top it all of those who lived through all of that were forced into a predators enclosure, so it could do whatever it wanted to you, surrounded by your dying family. You don’t deserve animals (or invertebrates) if you can’t see the beauty and significance in every one of their lives. At the very least you could of given them away to a local pet store or posted an ad online saying they’re free. Absolutely zero effort or empathy given.
Great information, shrimp can be so fickle with surviving! I've struggled with a few of these... Definitely overfed these guys before.

Is it that I did too much water change, the plants popping out the gravel made a spike, or was it too much panacur. I dont know. Thats why Im here. Guessing its all of them
Can I use black sand is it safe to use thanks
What are signs of copper poisoning? I found my shrimps lying on their sides or backs twitching before dying.
You have to have a test kit to know.
Does prime(water conditioner) hurt them???
love your videos...very informative and concise
I have lost 6-7 shrimps in last 2-3 days..these cherry shrimps were born and raised in the same tank..I did a water change yesterday and I see 1 dead again. I have been using the water from the same source and ph is between 6-7. Please help.
What are the tiny little fish you have in your tank? Thanks!
Endlers
I’m thinking about guppies and cherry shrimp. Thanks!
What has copper in it?
2 died over weeks. not ammonia spike for sure. no medication applied. there might be small reminant of super ich cure... i am at a loss
I just added big branches last night to my tank and I found my first dead shrimp today, I feel so guilty
Great informative video
Can i air pump to the shrimp??
I got 21 shrimp and over the course of a week, three of them died :c maybe they didn't acclimate so well.
My shrimp died last night and it appears it’s body has exploded or expanded beyond its exoskeleton. It had molted (it’s skin was floating around the tank) and around its chest were two black stone looking things and then a white puff on the underside. Anyone have any idea what happened?
How do you properly add shrimp to a pond
I am very confused about fish acclimation.
99% of the internet guys ( Aquarium Co-Op,Rachel O'Leary,
KGTropicals) recommend Plop and drop method.
Just buy a dechlorinator
will that remove the toxic metals?
@@jamie91995 it will remove anything in the tap water that could be harmful to your fish
s I didn’t think it did that with heavy metals, do you think a 2.5 gallon tank will do
@@jamie91995 why would there be heavy metals in your tap?
Lot of good information prefer to keep mine in species only tanks
I don't think you're gonna anwer but if someone can tell me, do aquasoil can be mortal for red cherry?
Novel 'ᄉ' aquasoil? Like substrate for planted tanks? No it won’t kill them... it’s actually NEEDED when keeping caradinia. But will make things very difficult if keeping neocaradinia since it will soften the water. the neocaradinia need hard water
@@BananerRepublic I'm late but thank u !
chloramines are the byproduct of a chloride interacting with some bit of life. much like nitrates
How do y'all think about keeping Corydoras with dwarf shrimp?
Corydoras will not harm the shrimp
Old Turtle thank u. What I noticed though is that they seem to spook my shrimps a lot
It’s pretty crazy that the water kills shrimp but we assume it’s not hurting us.
Are you a shrimp, you fuckin imbecile?

I guess lead sinkers is a no -no to sink plants......😢
Nice job thanks
Some flakes and algae wafers have copper and copper sulphate in them. I’ll have to go back to the fish store and get a refund after reading the ingredients
Shrimp actually have copper based blood, so they need copper to live, but too much copper will kill them. If the food is formulated for shrimp and it contains copper, you should be fine.
The main danger comes from plant fertilizer or fish medication that contain too much copper for the shrimp. It's like we need oxygen to live, but it's a poisonous gas. The right amount is essential, but breathing nothing but pure oxygen will kill you.
Can methylene blue kill shrimp?
Fuck me been keeping them for years and just forgot about the fucking copper in the fertilizer, damn it fuck i killed one
geat video mate lots of info
I have them for 1 year and today just suddendly about 70% of them die
keep up the good work buddy
I drip acclimate, then I keep them in a breeder box in the aquarium, so I can keep an eye on them and remove any dead ones. 24 hours later, 2 shrimp dead. 12 hours later, 4 shrimp dead.... by this time, I am NOT going to release them long story short, 2 left out of 13. all my parameters were fine, in an established aquarium..... :(
Same happened to me recently...
@@Kat-hs2ij complete opposite story with the next batch, same aquarium not only that but they are breeding now.
When I open the online store it keeps taking me to shopify.
Informative this is!!!
Why are some darker or not as red than others
TheReal PPgods males usually aren’t as bright as the females. There’s also just different grades of shrimp color.
@@elizabeth2231 Aawh thats not fun to hear. I dont know how or why. But the tapwater here is very good. Maybe thats the problem?
you should not be responsible for any living creature ever again. please dont reproduce.
Absolutely zero effort or empathy given.
xisotopex my thoughts exactly
They're pricks that's why. Wasted my money on them
sooo poor sound quality
Thanks

Bruh 1 of my cherry shrimp got sucked into the filter
Awesome bro. keep going. Love from India.
Ferts wont kill shrimp unless you dump a 500ml bottle into a 10 gallon tank. Stop spreading these misinterpretations and misrepresentations.
