Dave is truly one of the most modest men on UA-cam and I'd guess in real life anyone could meet, his unerring attention to detail and true craftsmanship stands him apart from many others ,hopefully he will continue to entertain and teach his many loyal followers for many years into the future
I started watcing Dave in the beginning of the Borax wagon build, and have been there ever since. The best part is that he has all his skills on video/you tube. etc. so it will not be lost to time. the only hope is they move it off video to the next mode of technology. ECF
If you have never watched one of Dave's videos, your missing a true craftsman. Dave is a carpenter, a black smith, a welder, a fabricator and an upholstery. Truely a master at all.
Ever sins the first video I stumbled on looking at craftsman and machining videos I have been addicted to his channel and have learned so much about these beautiful old waggons. And it's a national treasure trove of clever inovative techniques and information. An archive of the wheelright is incalculable and valuable. And it's no easy thing to film while you work, then edit and produce such great content.
I had the honor of meeting Dave about a year and a half ago. I had a trip out west and made a point of looking up the shop at the least, and at best to meet the man I viewed so much on UA-cam. He responded to the note I left stuffed in the door of his shop, and I enjoyed a short visit and tour of his shop. He had planned his day, and I was an interruption, so I made it short. A man who earns his living plying his trade needs his time. He was gracious enough to share just a little of it with me. With his videos, he shares much more with millions.
Dave Engel is a National Treasure. His videos are a priceless record not only of bygone wagons, but of superior craftsmanship. He may be the only "Jack of All Trades, Master of Same"!
I live in the Philippines and am certainly no craftsman but I watch Dave's channel every week without fail. I enloy so mutch seeing a craftsman excercise his skills.
I watch Dave and Diane’s channel all the time, stopped by to meet him and learned a lot from his enjoyable work. Rick’s lamp work is also amazing, his UA-cam channel is great too…
I’ve been watching this renaissance man for years. I would gladly give a year of my life just to have a chance to work with him. As a woodworker, I deeply admire his skills and fortitude to flesh out a living doing something he clearly lives.
I found Dave's videos with the Borax Wagon build and have followed him ever since. He does outstanding work and his style of working is very easy to follow and watch
Watching Dave build those wagons gave me an opportunity to see what my great great-grandfather used to do, he was a wheelwright. My great great grandfather had three wagons and traveled from Idaho to Utah repairing wagons and carrying parts plus dry goods. It builds a great appreciation for hard work, and the values it instills. Thank you, Dave.
Always look forward to the weekly videos from Dave, one of the best if not The best channel on UA-cam. Thank you Dave and thank you "Today's Wild West".
It can’t be exaggerating how much of a living legend this guy is. One of the last people on the planet they can actually make not just these wagons you see, but any type of wagon as it’s a dying trade. It’s so good that he is recording these videos and uploading to UA-cam so there will be some documented history. Otherwise, all of this knowledge will be lost forever.
Mr. and Mrs. Engels are a skilled team. The manner in which they devote themselves to their craft is true American heritage as much as the wagons they restore. I urge all to watch the full catalog of videos produced by Engels Coach Shop.
That was a great story and coverage of a Artful Historian who is keeping History Real ! Dave truly does the replicas and rebuilds in original form. Thank you so much for doing a great job with this video of a true Western Historian. Thanks Dave and Diane. Fred.
I really enjoyed the few minutes with Dave Engels, it was quite enjoyable. I've watched almost all of his vids on You Tube and have learned from and enjoyed following along with his work. Thanks for the brief interview with Dave and the other vids you share.
This video doesn't do Dave Engel justice. The video is superb but Dave is such a humble guy he seems to be going overboard in this video interview to avoid pride. You have to watch his videos when he gets distracted by his work and talks in a normal voice. He very modest style is always there but it's impossible to hide the man's expertise. He seems to know a little about everything then he insists on perfection from himself. It's given him an almost 6th sense in figuring out the impossible and converting a pile of rotting, rusting junk back into its original perfection.
Hello there. Bob Holden nextdoor to me, Was a wheelwright and worked for his father. He built Carts mainly for farmers. When Bob retired he built model Cart's and other horse Drone farm machinery. All scaled down from the original Carts. All in Wood and metal.
When we went on the big drive of 89, our wheels damn near fell off our Chuck Wagon. Thanks to this guy, he fixed them in record time and onsite. We made it to Billings 60 miles away with no problems.
I would venture to say that Dave HAS an 'Apprentice' of sorts: His daughter, Janelle, is a qualified Black Smith in her own right, and probably knows plenty about working on these buggies, but it is not usually mentioned by Dave, and she also has her own Smithing work.
His Brother In Law the carriage lamp guy is retiring and taking on no new work but at least he left some videos behind for anyone that may want to learn the trade.
It is one thing showing on youtube and one thing being in the presence of greatness as an apprentice, such waste you not passing on that talent in person but can understand it but all the same, it is important to pass it on. It is your choice but shame you don't. Great work though. x

Took the words out of my mouth. Dave is amazing to watch and his video library should be in the Library of Congress!
I live in the Philippines and am certainly no craftsman but I watch Dave's channel every week without fail. I enloy so mutch seeing a craftsman excercise his skills.
Makes two of us.
I'm in Australia and always look forward to Dave's new videos.
We learn so much. The Mud wagon he's working on currently for example.
I live in Brazil and don't miss any Dave's video
I watch Dave and Diane’s channel all the time, stopped by to meet him and learned a lot from his enjoyable work. Rick’s lamp work is also amazing, his UA-cam channel is great too…
Well said, I am hooked on his videos, and the coach lamp Channel, Wonderfl to be able to follow his channel

The Key word that I heard, was he was taught in school in shop classes. Well done Dave I enjoy watching the entire build.

Great interview, I've been subbed to Mr Engles channel for many years now and it's really good to hear some behind the scenes stories. Thank you! 😊

Dave's videos are full on amazing if you have ever worked with wood, or wanted to.
I learn so much from watching him work...I covet his tools

This genius is a treasure by himself. Bravo! Thanks!
Dave is an inspiration, a teacher and the true craftsman's, I don't miss a single video.
I watch Dave's videos weekly and this was a nice biography on the man.

Love Dave’s shop! Learning history while watching a craftsman!
I really enjoyed the few minutes with Dave Engels, it was quite enjoyable. I've watched almost all of his vids on You Tube and have learned from and enjoyed following along with his work.
Thanks for the brief interview with Dave and the other vids you share.
Thanks very much!!! Please spread the word!
i look forward to Dave's video every Friday he's such a great craftsman
I think that kind of talent deserves an apprentice.
didn't know wagons got that big you learn something new all the time.
The most amazing coach builder
I’ve watched everyone of Dave’s videos many times. I pay very close attention to everything he does. I’ve learned a lot!!!
I've sure enjoyed watching Dave's videos each week for the past several years. Each one is like its own Zen moment.
Dave Engle is America's Fred Dibnah... High praise.
I'm a big fan of Dave Engel, learned so much watching him.
Absolutely beautiful we need this back

Thanks, a nice overview of a National Treasure
I watched the whole video series of these being built and it still blows my mind that this happened
When we went on the big drive of 89, our wheels damn near fell off our Chuck Wagon. Thanks to this guy, he fixed them in record time and onsite. We made it to Billings 60 miles away with no problems.
I also watch his channel. I watched this build.
If you admire old world craftsmanship and well made videos by all means subscribe and view all of Dave's videos.
I loved watching that series.
You are an artist!
Renaissance man.
Thanks!
Dave Engels is a great guy and a heck a multi tiered craftsman. Check out his YT channel EngelsCoachShop
Good stuff, thanks.
How did I miss this?
The man is a master of his craft
I would venture to say that Dave HAS an 'Apprentice' of sorts: His daughter, Janelle, is a qualified Black Smith in her own right, and probably knows plenty about working on these buggies, but it is not usually mentioned by Dave, and she also has her own Smithing work.
WHAT LOVELY!!!
Wow a 20 hitch mule team love it 😀
GOOD JOB YALL DO 👍 🐎

BORAX ! 20 MULE TEAM 😃💞
His Brother In Law the carriage lamp guy is retiring and taking on no new work but at least he left some videos behind for anyone that may want to learn the trade.
2:01 "Dave majored in agri-business, but had no interest in the field." (Un)intentional dad-joke? 😆
HAPPY NEW YEAR

Restoring a Hotel now.
🌎👍🏽👍🏽🙋🏽🌍
👍👍👍👍👍🔥💎💯🖤
By what fancy of mind did you decide that Dave Engles does not use electricty in his construction of various wagons, buggies, carts, et cetra?
He was referring to the original builders of the stuff Mr. Engels repairs and duplicates.
I mean, i get it. But it really is a shame that he doesn't take on apprentices
Anyone who wants to learn only has to watch his video library. He is training a whole generation of younger folk who want to learn.
