We are so fortunate to have Gavin as a part of today’s MW landscape. Not only from a production standpoint, but he is such a refreshing throwback to early MW as a story teller. Couldn’t appreciate that about the guy more. Josh nailed it, someday when you look back Gavin absolutely will be one of those historical MW names. Congrats dude 🍻
Kane, brother man we couldn't agree with more. So many reasons exist why we're thankful for Gavin and for all the guys who work their tails off to ensure Midwest Whitetail's legacy continues for the years to come. The guy cares about the stories and the people in them and this is just another great example of it. Here's to the first of many bucks of Gavin's to hit the channel! Merry Christmas brother man from all of us.
Much appreciated my friend, I've said it before and I'll say it again these episodes are a team effort through and through. The gratitude for all of our team is endless and I can't wait for the future memories we will make!
Daniel, first and foremost thank you much for taking the time to watch the entire episode! Gavin's journey for this buck was one we really were excited to share. On the note of the snow, there's no doubt that it made ALL the difference for us on the track. Early on we definitely would have made the attempt at locating a dog to aid us in the recovery. Human eyes without snow would have struggled immensely, a dog we think would have been successful. All in all though it's a memory none of us will soon forget and we hope you enjoyed the show. Merry Christmas and thanks again for taking the time.
Gavin, CONGRATULATIONS! This may be one of the best, if not *the* best, Midwest Whitetail episode yet. I could "feel" the whole show. The disappointments, the struggle, the conquering. GREAT JOB!! Much love from Tony in Virginia
Trent thank you so much for those words man! Gavin works his tail off day in and day out for Midwest Whitetail. Whether that's Chasing November, the Monday episodes, or any task that helps the time on a given day... he's right there making things happen. So, to see him get a buck with a great story to tell was as rewarding of a moment for our team as any this season! All of us appreciate the time you took to watch the episode and we're really glad to hear you enjoyed it. If you haven't gotten the chance to check them out... a few other awesome stories unfolded this season that we would love your feedback on. Will drop those below. Patrick, really glad you enjoyed the episode sir and I'll be honest I had a really hard time not tearing up in that moment myself. Such a special one and to share it with all of those guys was everything. The buck was just the cherry on top! Hope you have a great week.
Patrickrooney7812, to say it was an emotional moment would be pretty big understatement! Getting to be part of that moment with Gavin was as special of a memory as can be made and the brotherhood is real no doubt. Thank you so much for the kind words, for taking the time to watch, and merry Christmas from all of us at Midwest Whitetail.
Chrisuttech8517, we really appreciate you taking the time to watch Gavin's journey that led to that awesome buck! RJ, we really appreciate you man and for always leaving a message of positivity! No doubt it paid off BIG for Gavin and we truly couldn't be happier for him. Best of luck as we finish out the season and merry Christmas from all of us at Midwest Whitetail brother.

Thank you very much! A long season no doubt but well worth every moment. Every time out there is a chance to learn and I couldn't be more grateful for every day of it.
Mitchellgenz1373, what more can we say other than thank you! Gavin told his story perfectly and we couldn't be happier to see the saga with the 6x5 finally come to a close. Have a great night and merry Christmas from all of us here at Midwest Whitetail!
Thank you Mitchell, glad you enjoyed it man it was a privilege getting to produce it. Couldn't do it without great viewers like yourself and the amazing team we have here at MW! Have a great week sir.
TreyHowell3935, what can we say other than 'Dreaming Big' is why many of us are where we are today. Thank you so much for following along these past 3 years and here's to the next 3! Have a great night and merry Christmas from all of us at Midwest Whitetail.
Jasondiaz7611, an immense amount of effort no doubt was put into this one by Gavin and Dragos. We couldn't be happier to see it end on a high note and look forward to the next Gavin/Big Buck story in future seasons. Have a great finish to the hunting season and merry Christmas from all of us at Midwest Whitetail.
Thanks Jason, a long time coming for sure but I am super thankful for how it went. Hope you had a great season yourself sir and appreciate you watching!
TheRealDealAdventures, we really do appreciate that and hope you enjoy this story as much as the previous ones! Gavin is a huge part of what we do at Midwest Whitetail and him tagging his buck to date is as good as it gets. Good luck the rest of this season and merry Christmas!
We really appreciate you taking the time to watch and know Gavin appreciates the kind words! Have a wonderful rest of the season and merry Christmas from all of us at Midwest Whitetail.
Westenpenrod970, thank you so much for taking the time to watch the episode and for following along with Gavin's season! Dragos did a great job capturing it through the lens and to see it come together in a full episode like this one was a real treat to watch. Gavin deserves it as much as anyone out there and we can only hope this is the first of many Gavin Koterba/Big Buck stories that we get to tell. Have a great rest of the week and merry Christmas from all of us at Midwest Whitetail.
Great job Gavin, and team!! Heck of a deer. Congrats and Merry Christmas to all at Midwest whitetail..wnjoyed that one, great video and thanks for taking us along
Ryanfarmer5155, thank you much for the kind words and thoughtful message! Gavin deserved this one many times over and to see the story told is as cool as it gets for our team. Couldn't be any happier for him and look forward to the years to come for the next Gavin Koterba/Big Buck adventure. Merry Christmas to you and thank you for following along. After all, support like yours is what allows us to tell these stories in the first place.
Thank you Ryan! He's an awesome buck no doubt, but the team we get to be a part of is nothing short of special and we couldn't do it without all of you viewers! Much appreciated once again sir and hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas as well.
You’ve got that right on following Kaleb’s up Skip! Leave it to Gavin though to work his tail off and make things happen. Pretty awesome to see his hunting journey thus far and we have a feeling it’s only going to get more exciting from here. CONGRATS on your giant man!
Thank you very much Skip glad you enjoyed it man! Its a privilege getting to enjoy the public land we have in Iowa and I cant wait for future memories to be made out there👊
Bobbybryant4292, we really can't say anything other than thank you. We get to try and do our best to tell these stories each season because of the continued support from folks like you. Gavin earned this one from start to finish and we truly couldn't be happier for him! Have a wonderful rest of your week, merry Christmas from all of us, and good luck hunting.
Isaacstotts6099, an awesome buck no doubt and one that Gavin earned many times over! Thank you so much for following along with the adventure on this episode and for supporting us on so many others. Hope you've had a great season and merry Christmas from all of us at Midwest Whitetail.
Unreal production, all! What a story with magnificent views and it really sets the bar. Congratulations on the great season and what a great ending to this one!
Love this kind of production, far more real and meaningful compared to much of the current landscape. Your “student” attitude is so refreshing. Congrats Gavin!!!
Patrick Gibson, first and foremost a huge thank you from all of us for taking the time to watch the episode man. We greatly appreciate the time and know you could have spent your time doing something else. Gavin's story was one we were super excited to share and the episode speaks for itself as to why. Hope you've had a great hunting season so far and merry Christmas to you from all of us at Midwest Whitetail.
BartG87- thank you very much man for watching the episode this week! Gavin's chase for that giant was an awesome one and we think he told it perfectly. Hope you've had a great season yourself and good luck as we round out the final weeks. Also, merry Christmas from all of us at Midwest Whitetail!
Vance, we couldn’t agree with you more man! One thing Gavin’s got amongst many other qualities is perseverance. Hopefully this is just the first of many when it comes to big bucks and Gavin Koterba. Chasing November Season 9 coming this August! 🤝
One reason I watch this show is the camaraderie between all the people on the show the passion and dedication to pursuing these deer is awesome to watch just like Caleb Gavin has that same drive hard work pays off on a great buck CONGRATULATIONS CONGRATULATIONS
Alan, thank you first of all for watching it was a privilege bringing this story to you! Can't speak highly enough of the team we have and how grateful I feel for all of them taking the time to help with the tracks. This group of guys is nothing short of special no doubt.
Alankieffer7631, there's no doubt that everyone on this team cares about the other like family. For that we're extremely grateful because sharing in these memories wouldn't be half the fun it is if it wasn't that way. Gavin tagging this awesome buck brings a joy all of our hearts that's hard to explain and we couldn't be happier for him if we tried. The guy works his tail off both in the office and the woods and we hope that this episode showcased that adequately. Have a great night and good luck the rest of this season! Finally, from all of us at Midwest Whitetail... merry Christmas!
Aarongoeppner413, as always man thank you very much for taking the time to watch and for leaving the supportive comments! The guys appreciate it and we're sure Gavin does especially on this one. He earned it many times over and the smile on his face when he finally wrapped that tag around the 6x5 says it all! Have a great rest of your week and merry Christmas from all of us at Midwest Whitetail.
Congratulations on making good on the second chance on a great buck. If I may offer a little advice, shoot as heavy a arrow and broad head combination as you are comfortable with and shoot a fixed blade.
Troymuche8997, thanks a million man for tuning in for another show! Gavin's was one of our favorites yet and it's hopefully easy to see why. The guy works his tail off and we can only hope that this is the beginning of many more big deer stories for Gavin. Have a great night and merry Christmas from all of us at Midwest Whitetail.
Awesome buck congratulations Gavin. The cameraman getting you shaking with buck coming in and after shot was priceless. Thats an excitement that you only get deer hunting.
Congratulations Gavin! The whole team is doing a fantastic job, really appreciate the effort and work you guys put into it. As Owen would say “Thank you”
What a roller coaster Gavin. Way to stick after it and finish the task you set out for. Congratulations I would be willing to bet a young guy like you acquired a few Grey hairs chasing this buck. Awesome stoy
Congratulations Gavin on an incredible feat- a true public land GIANT! Loved the story and dedication that went into this hunt. Thanks for all you do, we all appreciate your hard work!
Heckuva job Gavin . . . huge congrats on your first Iowa bow buck stud! This adventure will certainly serve as a reminder in years to come that you can never lose hope and never give up. You're living the dream, my friend, and keep doing what you do!
The lack of penetration was scary. I think a one-inch hole straight through is much better than a 2-inch hole with no exit. Glad you got him, that was a great video that ended well.
Congrats Gavin!! So happy to see you redeem yourself on the 6x5. My friend you are an incredible asset to the MW community, especially the younger generation viewers by respectfully showing them your failures, for them to learn from. I am super critical with bowhunters and tracking jobs, you guys did great on this buck. Well done to all including the camera man 🇺🇸
Gavin, congratulations man. So deserving, so many lessons to be taught here! Thank you for bringing us viewers incredible content week in and week out!
Absolutely love it when you guys do these "stories"... longstory short l, thus was my son's first year hunting and needless to say we lost his first buck but it's videos like these that give him the positive reinforcement he needs to see that he's not alone! It happens to all of us, but regardless we don't give up! Congrats Gavin, you definitely deserved that deer after the course of events that you went through! Merry Christmas to the Midwest crew
Gavin! Great work sir! You had some ups and downs this season and it's really nice to see your season end on a high note! Thanks for all you do for Midwest Whitetails and for producing some outstanding videos!
Congratulations Gavin and the whole Midwest whitetail team That's an incredible book on your incredible journey Great to see you on the team and great to see you learning In becoming a true master hunter 👍 Merry Christmas to all you guys And good luck in the late season
Awesome Buck there I’m A 30 year veteran with 64 archery kills 11 pope n young bucks. Shot expandable heads for 3 seasons without that exit hole it makes it tougher. Quit those heads went back to 3 blade fixed pass through Every time @ 65 lbs something to think about Keep up the awesome footage love watching Keep in mind with snow I stay on the blood slowly only because coyotes! I bumped em out of their beds and eventually they are done without feeding those coyotes!
Just watched this …wow that’s really exciting..there’s nothing really like bow hunting I was able to get a doe yesterday and I felt like that lol I can’t imagine what it feels like to get a buck like that! Great job !
23:00 this same thing happened to me this season. It's a very humbling experience. And one of the most heartbreaking things that can happen to a bowhunter in my opinion.
In the tree, video shows an expandable head being used, when they find the deer, he is using a "fixed" blade. Will never understand why people continue to use expandable heads. Mechanical devices, "can and will fail", that is just a fact. The shot appeared to have gotten the heart, so what happened? Did the blade not fully expand?
Congratulations awesome story I definitely would sit back in the off-season and probably switch up some things. I don’t know what your arrow weight is, but I would definitely take that consideration and maybe bump it up a little bit more but all in all great story congratulations again and hopefully you can get another monster on the ground before the season ends.
First off congratulations. Did you see any wound from the first shot and if so where was it? One word of advice for next season tune that bow, those arrows were flying like corkscrews.
Your arrow did not deflect. That deer was hard quartering towards you at the shot. Exit wound is right in line with arrow travel. Congrats on a great IA buck!!
So they clearly don’t understand trajectory or the internal structure of a deer. His leg was back and you shot behind the shoulder, missing the lungs. The arrow didn’t deflect. It went straight. Not to “hate” on the hunt or whatever the simps are going to say. Just stating facts.
Gavin Koterba is the man and I hope everyone enjoys this one. He's as deserving as anyone and I can't wait to get that next "he's down" phone call.
I appreciate all the members and their very different hunting traits.
We are so fortunate to have Gavin as a part of today’s MW landscape. Not only from a production standpoint, but he is such a refreshing throwback to early MW as a story teller. Congratulations Gavin on an incredible feat- a true public land GIANT! Loved the story and dedication that went into this hunt. Thanks for all you do, we all appreciate your hard work!
Congrats Gavin, you definitely deserved this one!!
HEck ya! Wtg Gavin he's a stud! Well deserved!
Its enjoyable to watch new deer hunters.
Glad you got another crack at him! Good on ya for sticking with it and seeing it through.
Public land is the hardest hunting you will find and to get a Giant like that shows allot of hard work great video TY
Very cool story. A lot of highs and lows and a lot of work! Congratulations!
Congrats Gavin! Awesome buck!!
We thank you for watching, Rodney. We are super happy for Gavin! Stay safe out there and good luck!
Very deserved! Awesome job and what a buck.
Well deserved man 👊🏼
Braydon, we really couldn’t be happier for Gavin. He works his tail off no matter what he’s doing and he is so deserving! Hope you enjoy the show.
Congratulations Gavin! Great buck, great story and did great telling it!
Sweet buck, Gavin! Congrats
Definately got me hooked Gavin! I am now one of your biggest fans!
Congratulations young man. Well deserved buck. Great tracking job. Great video. Followed you all year.
Great story and Big Congratulations!
Congratulations Gavin on a great monarch, and a great story, keep grinding young man!
Congratulations on getting the big6x5 Gavin. lord knows you were working hard and keep the train rolling!
Awesome, great redemption!
Well done to all including the camera man 🇺🇸
Those shakes are the best!! Great show!!
What a story!!! Happy for you
One badass dude right here😎Congrats brotha this was so fun to watch! Yourself and the house surely deserved some new decor for once👌🏻
Awesome hunt man I love watching all your guys videos love them all and I learn new way to hunt them
Gavin, congratulations man.
Nice work! Good job staying after it and tracking.
Gavin! Great work sir! You had some ups and downs this season and it's really nice to see your season end on a high note! Thanks for all you do for Midwest Whitetails and for producing some outstanding videos!
Awesome job and supercool hunt
Congrats!!! Keep up the great videos!
Nice buck Gavin !! Great video and it looks like all your hard work payed off in a big way !!! Congrats man !!
Congratulations Gavin and the whole Midwest whitetail team That's an incredible book on your incredible journey Great to see you on the team and great to see you learning In becoming a true master hunter 👍 Merry Christmas to all you guys And good luck in the late season
Great job! Congrats!!
Awesome Buck there
I’m A 30 year veteran with 64 archery kills 11 pope n young bucks. Shot expandable heads for 3 seasons without that exit hole it makes it tougher.
Quit those heads went back to 3 blade fixed pass through Every time @ 65 lbs something to think about
Keep up the awesome footage love watching
Keep in mind with snow I stay on the blood slowly only because coyotes! I bumped em out of their beds and eventually they are done without feeding those coyotes!
Just watched this …wow that’s really exciting..there’s nothing really like bow hunting I was able to get a doe yesterday and I felt like that lol I can’t imagine what it feels like to get a buck like that! Great job !
Very lucky you had snow on the ground
23:00 this same thing happened to me this season. It's a very humbling experience. And one of the most heartbreaking things that can happen to a bowhunter in my opinion.
Nice with the perseverance ,group time counts
In the tree, video shows an expandable head being used, when they find the deer, he is using a "fixed" blade. Will never understand why people continue to use expandable heads. Mechanical devices, "can and will fail", that is just a fact. The shot appeared to have gotten the heart, so what happened? Did the blade not fully expand?
Great job Gavin and great name 😂 can’t believe it’s December and these videos are almost over 😢
Tough deer. Great buck!
Lots of pan, tilt, Ken Burns movement on BRoll. Let the scene marinate. Or keep Dramamine on tap lol.
Really like how u explained the first shot on him a d you couldn't find where the cut was it helps
Great vid tj I'm new to your channel I had joined your live chat last night great content
Very sharpe fix blades my guy … 2” mechanical trash heads
Walking around in those Temps Dude! You are cold blooded! Congrats to you and thanks. somebody get the young man some gloves.......
Congrats on an amazing buck!
Question for you all at Midwest whitetail, what are those handheld lights you were using for tracking the buck?
First off congratulations. Did you see any wound from the first shot and if so where was it?
One word of advice for next season tune that bow, those arrows were flying like corkscrews.
I know this is old but rewatching this I noticed his bridge looks kinda torn. Might wanna check that out. Lol be safe out there!
Also there should be a time stamp on the video to see how many days passed before he was recovered. It's like a 3 day operation to harvest 1 animal.
Wow your lucky he didn't buggar out of there. Don't ever stop a deer that loudly.
Wow
Your arrow did not deflect. That deer was hard quartering towards you at the shot. Exit wound is right in line with arrow travel. Congrats on a great IA buck!!
Looks like if you didn’t have snow you would not have found it ? Congrats
Why a Euro mount?
Looks like "someone" marked the location for you?
Timothy please elaborate as to what you mean. In the meantime have a great day and we hope you enjoyed the video!
So they clearly don’t understand trajectory or the internal structure of a deer. His leg was back and you shot behind the shoulder, missing the lungs. The arrow didn’t deflect. It went straight. Not to “hate” on the hunt or whatever the simps are going to say. Just stating facts.
