- Holiday Cranberry Sauce
1 cup granulated sugar (plus 1/4 cup more possibly)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup orange juice
zest of one orange
12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries, rinsed
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
Using a large sauce pan, combine both sugars, the water, juice, and orange zest. Whisk until sugars are mostly dissolved. Add the cranberries. Place over medium heat and bring to a soft boil. Watch the pan carefully so that it does not boil over. You may want to cover the pan with a splash screen, to minimize the splattering.
Once the mixture is at a soft boil, reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer for approximately 20 minutes until the sauce has slightly thickened. (It will continue to thicken quite a bit as it cools in the refrigerator.) When the sauce is at your desired thickness, remove from the heat and stir in the cinnamon. Taste to see if the sauce is sweet enough. If it needs more sweetness, stir in another 1/4 cup of white sugar and stir until it is dissolved. It will dissolve quickly because of the hot sauce.
Pour the cranberry sauce into a bowl and allow to come to room temperature before covering and refrigerating.
NOTE - You can make your cranberry sauce well ahead of your holiday meal. This will keep in the refrigerator for several days.

Thanks for keeping good food alive and well! My grandma, who never used a measuring spoon, said just before she died at 88, "People today don't know what good food really is." A good friend of my parents who is now 90 told how the women would make dinner at the church for funerals and it got to the point that the younger women couldn't cook or had no idea how to bake a pie!! Not only do you give us great food, you are a GREAT instructor!!
Thanks so much for watching and sharing so much encouragement! We really do appreciate it!
I like your cranberry sauce recipe so much better than my cranberry relish recipe. Mine involved putting the cranberries and the oranges through a grinder which meant that you had to first work very hard at removing all of the white part of the orange. Mine didn't involve cooking but I like the idea of doing it your way. Thank you for teaching me how to zest an orange because I didn't know how to either.
And that's what you call "Pop The Berries" 😅
So true. Tom & Melissa are so very inspiring. After working 18 years in food service in NY for a catering company, we have learned more from them in the past year than all those years. Simple, wholesome good food. Tom's way of teaching is amazing. Esoecially his stories associated to his recipes. Love it.
Joan & Dennis from NY 😊
would the cinnamon change the flavor much
Hi Tom and Melissa! Welcome back from your Cruise! Tom, hope you feel better soon. I love this recipe. Nice and easy. My Mother always made fresh cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving, Christmas and other special holidays, occasions. This brought back some wonderful memories, thank you. Now that you have tasted your cranberry sauce, your voice sounds so much better. It's a miracle cure. I can probably eat the entire bowl. I love cranberry sauce. My mother lived near a local cranberry bogue. It was always fascinating to watch them harvest the cranberries. Have an awesome day. 😋😋🥰🥰
"Now that you have tasted your cranberry sauce, your voice sounds so much better. It's a miracle cure." 😂
Thank you Tom and Melissa, I have enjoyed watching your posts and I will be using your cranberry sauce and stuffing! I love that you are enjoying your life after retirement. I was a teacher too! I retired 2015 and that year my husband got sick and we are now tied down to dialysis. I love to hear that you take cruise trip. Because we love when we did that.
Your capacity to teach is teriffic. Thanks for the great recipes.
I love the way you present the recipes and include them in the description. Just a perfect channel.
you will be part of our thanksgiving..this will be on our table.thank you for all the great recipes.hope you feel better soon & hope melissa doesn't get sick also..happy thanksgiving 🦃
Hope you are feeling better by now. Thank you for the recipe. I have never put cinnamon in mine. I think I will this year.
I am so glad to know how to make this at home! Thanks, tom and Melissa!
Hope you enjoy it! Thanks so much for watching our channel. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
Already told my son I'm bringing homemade cranberry sauce to his house for Thanksgiving. This recipe sounds delicious 😋. Never made it before cause I thought it was hard to make. But it's not. You just proved that to me. Can't wait! I normally hate cranberry sauce but love to drink cranberry-grape juice. But your recipe just sounded great! 🙂🦋
Cranberry-black Cherry is now my favorite go to
Feel better soon, Tom!!!! Thanks for this cranberry sauce recipe!!! Yummmm!!! Also, the Thanksgiving play list will be AWESOME!!!! I’ve made several of your recipes so far & every one of them have been a HIT!!🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼💙💛
That makes us so happy that you are trying and enjoying several of our recipes. Have a wonderful upcoming holiday season!
I love Cranberry sauce with the whole berry ! Thsnks for always posting your recipes!! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈
My husband has the Texas crud. Get better soon. Thanks for showing us how to make cranberry sauce while you don’t feel go great.
When I was a little girl,my 15:02 Grandmother and I would look lettuce and I have been married for 57 years, and I look lettuce to this day. Thanks for bringing back good memories. I love your videos and I will use the cornbread dressing and the cranberry sauce for our Thanksgiving meal. Thank you so much.
You are so welcome. We love for food to connect us to sweet memories, and we are happy this recipe did that for you. We are honored to be a small part of your upcoming holiday meal. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
I’ve made this for years. Love it. Hope you feel better soon.
I can’t wait to try this recipe with orange juice and orange zest and cinnamon
I hope you feel better. I am so sorry that you got sick after your vacation. It is so kind and thoughtful of you and Melissa to make this video even though you’re not 100%. I am making your sauce today. God Bless you both ❤
We appreciate you so much for watching our channel. And thank you for your kind words. We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family.
Thanks for sharing with us soo many good recipes!!!! Made cranberry sauce for the first time today!!!! It's great!!! I am a 70 year old Baptist woman of God!!!❤❤❤
I made this tonight. It is my first time ever making cranberry sauce. It is delicious.
I’ve been researching recipes for cranberry sauce. There are so many different recipes! Like yours it’s different. Sounds tasty. Thank you for sharing. ❤
Your recipe is great, Tom and Melissa! Thank you. I know what you mean by the Kentucky Crud. Every time I cross over that state line into TN I feel so much better! KY is one of the worst states for environmental or plant allergies.
One Christmas I unintentionally used all of my ground cinnamon in baking so I didn’t have any for the cranberry sauce. I searched the spice drawer and saw the ground ginger so I used that instead. It was a hit so that’s what I now use. It’s really yummy!! If I have a knob of fresh then I will microplane a little of it into the cooking berries.
When my dear Mother made cranberry sauce she made it like yours, but didn’t thicken it quite as much by using more fresh OJ, then at the very end, after removing it from the heat, she would add diced celery and diced pecans. Now that is very delicious!! 😊 The crunch is nice because everything else is smooth or soft to eat (turkey, gravy, dressing) so the contrast is really nice. The perfect bite with all four!😋❤️😋
I make my own cranberry sauce in stead of an orange , I use a small can of mandarin orange and the juice plus the zest of an orange. I will be using the brown sugar and some cinnamon. Keep the ideas and recipes coming ❤🦃🥰
We sure will! Thanks for sharing your version with us as well. We love all the great cooks who watch and let us know their ideas. It's amazing how kind people are to share their knowledge with us all. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving season!
I'm so glad i found your video! I've never made homemade cranberry sause and i wanted to make some this year! So thank you very much for putting out this video! Hope you feel better soon!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I never would have added cinnamon to cranberry sauce, but I'll add it this year! Thank you for all your recipes. I'm going to check out your Thanksgiving playlist.
This is the same recipe my mom used for all of the years that she cooked Thanksgiving dinner. She gave me the recipe and I make this every year… and I think of her when I make it….
Thanks so much for sharing!! I'll be trying this recipe on Thanksgiving Day!!😋
You’re bringing back beautiful memories from my past and I appreciate it so much.
Thanks for putting it in your playlist. Great recipe. Love 💕 and Hugs. ❤❤❤
Thank you for making a playlist for Thanksgiving. I’m not very organized, so this really helps. Have a good day. 🌼
This looks delicious. I absolutely love cranberry sauce alone; with fish or on a sandwich. I did not know how easy it would be to make homemade. I will be at Publix today and will buy the ingredients for this recipe.
Hope you enjoy it like we do. Homemade is, of course, always the best! Thanks so much for watching our channel and have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.
I made the cranberry sauce and chili sauce meatballs for our family fellowship and it was a hit!!!
What a GORGEOUS serving dish.
Thank you so much. It belonged to Tom's mom. She loved pretty dishes. We like using them and thinking about how much she would have enjoyed this channel. She would have made many guest appearances by now!
My mother-in-law loved the canned stuff, but since her passing my daughter has been making if in a crock pot, and she does a pretty good job. Your recipe seems much simpler than the one she uses.
Thank you.
I hope you enjoyed your cruise, we have one booked for February and October. Can’t wait.
We do hope that your try our recipe and enjoy it like we do. Nothing wrong with the canned stuff and it gets points for being convenient, but homemade is so much better!
We had a wonderful cruise. We loved getting to visit Japan, Indonesia and Australia. What a blessing to us that trip was. We hope you enjoy your cruises next year, too. We think it's a marvelous way to travel and see lots of the world without packing. Your hotel moves with you!
Have a great upcoming Thanksgiving season.
Looks so good hope you get better soon
Just wanted to say “hi” and thank you for your recipes. I make homemade cranberry sauce for our holidays and enjoyed seeing how someone else makes it. I do it the same way but without the orange. My daughter-in-law and myself are the only ones that like it and she doesn’t like it with the orange so I do it plain for her. We always have a lot leftover so I had to find many ways for the excess. I think our favorite is with peanut butter. The cranberry sauce is a great contrast with the PB. PB and cranberry sauce sandwich . Yum!
Most of the time I use cranberries and just cook them with sugar and water, and I make a sauce for the knock off Costco roll ups with the turkey and cheese and lettuce and tomato and I mix the cranberry with cream cheese for a dressing for the wraps and it’s very good like that also but I can’t wait to try this one with the orange juice and cinnamon and orange zest. Thank you very much for the recipe and take care of both of you, love your recipes all the recipes are so good and you make it so easy with all your stuff and step-by-step instructions
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 ABSOLUTELY SUPERP VIDEO...THANK YOU SO MUCH..I REALLY APPRECIATE THE FULL CAREFUL AND CLEAR EXPLANATION
I definately have to make this for thanksgiving. This is one of my favorite sides. Of course I’ll have to have a can of cranberry sauce for the people who just won’t eat homemade. I sort of feel the same as you do. I was supposed to get a shoulder replaced this past Thursday but I had a fever so they postponed my surgery. I thought I just had a bad cold. Now I’ll have both of my arms for thanksgiving dinner lol. Feel better soon Tom. 😊
My mom was the first person to tell me how easy it was to make fresh cranberry sauce. The only ingredients I use are: fresh cranberries, orange juice, and sugar (the directions that are on the bag of cranberries) ... also I cook them a shorter time ... just until the cranberries pop open.
I'm sure that's a great recipe as well. We really appreciate that you are watching our channel. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.
IF you go to McAllisters deli they have a WONDERFUL! cranberry orange spread for their turkey sandwiches and I think this will taste very similar. yummmy
We always make fresh cranberries , use orange as well, will try the brown sugar and cinnamon addition .We also do a cranberry relish with orange and walnuts that is not cooked , just put in food chopper. Both are delicious. Have a great Thanksgiving. Thanks for the recipes. Keep them coming......
I just made you cranberry sauce it came out delicious for Thanksgiving thank you so much for your video .
Hello, I will be making this.
Mr. Tom, I hope you feel better soon. I'm glad you both had a good time and made new friends. 😊
We are happy to read that you're going to try this out. We always love it when people tell us this.
Tom is improving thanks to the allergy meds he got from the doctor. It just takes a while to get the voice back to normal.
We had a marvelous trip and met the best people. That's our favorite part of traveling - making new friends from around the world.
Thank you so much for watching our channel. We really are grateful for the support and encouragement nice viewers like yourself have given us. Have a great upcoming holiday season.
Thank you i have been wanting to cook my own cranberry sauce so your recipe will be on my table this thanksgiving
Fabulous! We love getting to be a small part of your holiday celebration! Thanks so much for watching.
Feel better soon thanks for the videos

Looks delicious, Tom. I've never made homemade cranberry sauce, but you've shown us how easy it is. Excited to try this!
This sauce is great..I love it. Now I have a sauce that I can do for christmas..Thank you for this ❤❤ love your shows
A new sub here, i took a dish of homemade cranberry sauce to a friends for dinner one year none of them had tried homemade before and they took a small amount like you would as a sauce, then they took large amounts as a side dish lol they LOVED IT
Thank you so much for joining our channel. We love having you sitting at our table. And we agree, it's so good it needs to be side not a sauce! It definitely makes the Thanksgiving meal complete.
That is so different then what im used to but i might even try this your way my mom love her cranberry
We think it's very good and we sure hope you and your mom enjoy it as well! Have a wonderful upcoming holiday.
I just made this recipe today. It’s delicious! Happy Thanksgiving!
This is delicious on vanilla ice cream.
You have the same stove that I have and every time your timer goes off my daughter and I look back at our stove in confusion for a second 😆 I’ll be making your lasagna recipe this weekend 😋 can’t wait to try it.
That's funny! We sure hope you like the lasagna. Thanks so much for watching and trying out our recipes. Have a great upcoming holiday season.
Love your videos. God Bless
Ty for sharing your cranberry sauce going to use it but I do love the canned cranberry sauce eat half can with turkey 😆 hope you feel better soon from KY know about the ky crud 😢 God Bless you both❤
I always make cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving. It's so good. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome. Homemade is just so much better! Thanks so much for watching our channel.
Another great recipe, as always. I suffer from allergies too so I know how you feel. I hope you feel better soon.
Thank you so much for the encouraging comment. We really appreciate that you are watching our channel. Tom is improving it just takes a while for his voice to return to normal after the allergies get a hold of him.
Yummy, I will definitely be trying this one I hope you feel better. That's why you don't feel good A cruise can Congestion from the cruise. But sending prayers, feel better.🙏🙏❤
I am gonna make this for sure for Thanksgiving. Thank you for a nice simple recipe. Happy Thanksgiving!
That would be really nice as well. Thanks for adding that comment so everyone can think about that option if they are interested. We really appreciate that you are watching our channel.
Homemade cranberry sauce is the only way to go ❤
I'm 70 and that's the frist time I have seen it made
Thank you so much for sharing your recipe! My husband and I are hosting Thanksgiving for the first time ever this year. Before I found your video, I was really panicking over the cranberry sauce (we never had it when I was younger). This video is so incredibly helpful and now I’m EXCITED to try it out! I can’t wait to follow more of your recipes 🥹 Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! ❤️
How wonderful that you are hosting this year! It's so nice to have your house filled with family and friends and of course, good food! We are so happy to get to be a small part of your Thanksgiving. We love this cranberry sauce. In fact, we've made two batches so far this month and one of our kids took the second batch home with them this past weekend! I think that means they liked it so that's a good sign! Blessing to your family!
@@comesitatmytable9044I just made the cranberry sauce and it is AMAZING! My mom came over to help me prep today and ended up taking some home with her because she loved it so much and couldn’t wait until tomorrow! 😂 thank you again for sharing your recipe! I can’t wait to try out some more!
Feel better soon!!!!!! I'm not a cranberry sauce person but it looks good......I only like dried cranberries.....
I like the Ocean Spray canned jellied cranberry sauce.
I honestly like the canned sauce, too, and it's so convenient- but I do think this is better. It's pretty easy to make so if you have the chance, you might want to give it a try. Thanks for watching our channel and we sure hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.
We pick them here in Newfoundland,Canada…
Good grief! I was so proud of myself that I finally bought a zester for a recipe but now I see why it didn’t quite work for me! Lol Now, I know! Thanks! I’m also going to try this cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving!
I’m trying this
Looks yummy. I will be making this for Thanksgiving this year
Looks delicious
We grind apples oranges and cranberries in grinder and add sugar as you like and oranges with peelings R ground- and apple peelings r left on- stir it good and it is so good and keeps fine thru holidays - no heating anything
Good job zesting your orange (or lemon or lime). The tool is always on top so you can see what you're doing and not rubbing the fruit on top of your grater.
cooking the cranberries and orange juice will make the pan nice and shiny inside like tomatoes
I guess that's just an added bonus! Thanks so much for watching our channel. We really do appreciate it.
A friend gave me the recipe for jam that I would like to share with you. One can cranberry sauce, 1/2 cup water, about same amount as sauce of two other fruits. I use apple and oval dark Italian plums. Use whole berry if not peeling fruit and jellied if you are peeling. Chop fruit, removing cores and pits. Peel if desired. Cook over med-low like you did this sauce, mashing if necessary until consistency of applesauce. Cool and keep refridgerated. Use on toast or serve warm over pancakes, waffkes or even vanilla ice cream! Think I will make a batch of your sauce and use that instead of a can for the jam. Bet it would taste much better. 😊
Again, another recipe that is completely different from the way I make it. 🤣😆🤣 Not a in bad way, just funny. I always make my own cranberry Sauce. My kids want the canned, regular, no berries, kind. I've never had it with brown sugar or cinnamon in it. But I'm going to try it your way and see if I like it that way.
The Blythe always got me during corn harvesting time! Feel better soon. Try a sterile saline nasal spray to reduce your exposure.
He's doing better. Good meds to clear up the allergies. Thanks so much for watching. We really appreciate it.
I make mine with all orange juice plus I add cloves, ginger and allspice plus cinnamon. Then at end 2 tbsp of conitreau
When you were talking about your friend, I thought you were going to say. He added zest soap 🧼 to the oranges 🍊. Just the thought got me. Enjoy your program. When is your cook book coming out.
I have no idea why anyone buys canned sauce. There's just nothing better, easier or healthier than homemade whole berry cranberry sauce. Don't forget a pinch or so of nutmeg, ginger and allspice along with the cinnamon. It's a cold and flu season antioxidant super food and perfect as a snack over cream cheese on crackers.
Y’all are so amazing and I enjoy your content and videos and I would love to see you make or provide a recipe for a sweet potato casserole I think that is what you call it 😂😂❤❤❤
Just a heads up, for my allergy flare ups, I make a cup of green tea add one drop of peppermint oil and one drop of oregano oil.The oils are strong so use only one drop.❤Good luck.
What an interesting tip. We really appreciate it. I've made a note of that for future reference. Unfortunately, Tom has allergy issues twice a year. I think he will welcome an alternative remedy.
Hope you feel better soon.
He's on the mend! Thanks so much for watching. We really do appreciate it.
I'd love to meet you both I'm across the river over here in Indiana
This is a good base for cranberry sauce, Add 2 chopped granny smith apples, and one large pear chopped. Little pieces, not big pieces. Add this with your whole cranberries and your sugars and your orange. Add a few teaspoons of cinnamon, heat it up, but don't turn your mixture into jelly. Just enough to heat through till softened (it will jelly up nicely as it cools) then add a dash or two of brandy, don't go crazy, easy does it. You will have a cranberry dish that will be fit for royalty!!
You've really jazzed it up! Thanks for adding your suggestions! It's great that most recipes can be adapted to everyone's personal preferences. Have a wonderful holiday season.
I’m sorry you’re feeling poorly. My son has suffered with allergies since he was a baby. You may be familiar with this. Our doctor recommended a spoonful of local honey each day to help alleviate symptoms. We have found it definitely helps.
Yes - and it has to be locally produced to really help the allergies from your own part of the country. We'd been away traveling for a while and within a few hours of getting home, his congestion started in full force. He's taken a lot of allergy meds and he's improving. Thanks so much for your kind words and suggestions. We really appreciate that you are watching our channel.
😋
Ordered a screen
I've never had anything but canned cranberry sauce
Nothing wrong with the canned sauce. But we do think this is better and it's not hard to make so we hope you will give it a try. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you so much for watching our channel.
I prefer the canned cranberry sauce with whole berries in it.
My Mom (93) always hopes there is some of the cranberry sauce left over. She uses it on toast as a sweet tart jam/marmalade!
Do you have a Thanksgiving dressing mix a moist one? Hope your voice is back to normal soon.
That's what we say, we look our beans also.
Mmm... cranberry sauce! Something I like, but at the same time something I can't eat much of at a time.
Take care of those allergies, yo!
Is there any way sugar could be reduced, since we're trying to cut down?
Absolutely - but it will be much more tart with less sugar. If you're okay with that, then definitely reduce the sugar you add to this. Test taste as you go along making it and adjust to suit your taste buds.
Have a great holiday season and know that we are grateful to have you watching our channel.
Get better soon...We get the allergies Indiana crud.
I love your squeezer
Was it your Mums Tom ?
It's made from Uranium glass..
I have one, but it's not as nice as yours
Yes, the squeezer was his mother's. We are fortunate to have several of her nice cooking utensils. Thanks so much for watching the cranberry sauce. Is this something you enjoy in Australia?
@comesitatmytable9044
Some do but it's not really a thing here, but easy to buy if it was wanted.
Actually, turkey isn't big here either, only at Christmas time.
I love turkey, but it's not always available and it's expensive.
Don't ask about turkey bacon, it's absolutely not a thing here. 🤣
I also add chopped pecans at the end
Can this recipe be canned?
Tom, I fix my cranberry sauce in the microwave. It takes much less time and the berries pop readily.
Interesting idea. Thanks for letting us know that you've done that and it works. We appreciate that you are watching our channel.
G'day from Australia 🇦🇺
Where's your Australia shirt ?
I love your question! Made me laugh out loud! He did purchase several shirts while we were visiting and he's actually wearing one right now. We are making a video today that we will post next week so be on the lookout for an Australian tshirt! Have a great day!
@comesitatmytable9044
I watch every video and I've been waiting for a Port Douglas shirt.
Give me a shout out Hee hee
Do you stir constantly while it cooks?
I stir it quite often but not constantly. I probably stir it every minute or so.
@tomwyant9297 Thanks for your reply Tom. Love your videos and recipes. Good old-fashioned cooking is what I've always been about.
My mother in law who passed away many years ago, made what I guess you would call a cranberry relish. Cranberries, apples, oranges, pecans, and sugar. The fruit was run through an old-fashioned grinder, and we put it on our turkey or ham. So good! Sometimes, she would put jello on it. I don't remember how she did that.
@@sandrakelso7136 I have a recipe that uses jello. Put cranberries, orange (and apple if desired) in a blender; make red jello, stir together and refrigerate. No cooking, except for jello. Way easier. 😊
@@sandrakelso7136, yes, Cranberry Relish is not cooked. The cranberries and other fruit are ground up and served without being cooked. The Cranberry Relish I've had was a little crunchy and quite tart. Cranberry Sauce is cooked, tends to be much softer, and gels without using Jello.
Thank you for watching our videos and supporting our channel.
I use the chunky cranberry sauce on my turkey instead of gravy (like a relish)...but I can't resist more turkey with gravy.
It's too hard of a choice to make so just settle for both. It's not worth feeling like you missed something so wonderful! Happy Thanksgiving.
