Today I am 77 years old. The beauty of this song foster extraordinary enthusiasm to live the rest of my life. Thanks God..... YOU have brought Brother Four into my life. So it becomes more.... more beautiful...
My father passed away from brain cancer, in 2009 (at the age of 63). He was born and raised in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. I never met a person with such a diverse flavor for music. He loved Tango, boleros, rock and roll, jazz, American honkey tonk, just to mention a few genres. One of his favorite songs was Greenfields by The Brothers Four. He would sing it to me, as a child. Just listening to this beautiful song, brings me close to him. Thank you for sharing.
I listened to this most beautiful song since I was 10 years old. Now I’m 67. I’m still listening. Thanks they are all still singing. Thanks for this awesome post.
I'm 73 and I keep on singing this marvellous song with my guitar to my grandchildren. Thanks so much, the Brothers Four, God bless you and keep you alive together for à long time !
What a wonderful song sounds to my ears in 2018. I used to listened to this music some 40~50 years ago in New York City where I have lived for 18 years. I'm back in Japan now where I was born in 1936. Needless to say, there have happened many things, good and bad, and terrible, in my life of 82 years. But at least, I had a chance to listen to especially American and British good music.
Hi (excuse my poor english) but I have to said something here... I'm from Guayaquil-Ecuador (South America) I have 58 now... When I was a boy, every year after finishing school, my father would take my mother and her 8 children to vacation for 3 months to the beach ... and every year on those trips my father sang this song while he was driving his old Ford Lane '68 I guess (as well as: The Windmills Of Your Smile, Doris Day's Que Sera Sera) Throughout my life whenever I listen to it it is impossible to stop the tears in my eyes ... Thanks for share this beautiful and incredible video! Blessings
Since I was 12 years old until now I’m 66 years old already, still listening this beautiful music. My first selection during karaoke party…Thanks to “The Brothers Four”
I have loved that song for 60+ years and still do. A classy performance of a song written for the movie , The Alamo. Thank you, Brothers Four. Please keep us remembering when music was memorable and worthy of hearing over and over.
I love this song too but it was not the one written for the movie... that was "The Green Leaves of Summer" which was sung by The Brothers Four and which received an Oscar nomination. Both songs are beautiful and remind me of growing up... 🙂
1always wish I could hear the song at the end of the rainbow lthink ithink nat king cole sings it pls save it I truly loveit will make me so happy you are such darling
I also cry every time I listen to this song, it reminds me when I was driving from California to Michigan when I was going to marry my husband,RIP; and I close my eyes& picture our trip together him driving telling me all kinds of beautiful stories. It's so vivid in my ❤; I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU CHARLIE LOMAS. YOU ARE IN MY HEART.
This song reminds me of the love between my mom and dad in the 70s. She was a stroke patient and he was a government officer. We all grew up under this condition. I suddenly woke up in the middle of the night with this song playing somewhere in my mind
Once there were greenfields kissed by the sun; Once there were valleys where rivers used to run; Once there was blue sky with white clouds high above; Once they were part of an everlasting love. We were the lovers who strolled through greenfields. Greenfields are gone now, parched by the sun; Gone from the valleys where rivers used to run; Gone with the cold wind that swept into my heart; Gone with the lovers who let their dreams depart. Where are the greenfields that we used to roam? I'll never know what made you run away. How can I keep searching when dark clouds hide the day? I only know there's nothing here for me, Nothing in this wide world left for me to see. But I'll keep on waitin' 'til you return. I'll keep on waiting until the day you learn You can't be happy while your heart's on the roam. You can't be happy until you bring it home, Home to the greenfields and me once again.
This was my husband’s and my song. He has since passed but when I hear the lyric..you shall return...it reminds me that we will still be dancing to this song in heaven.
This song touches my heart strongly, because it reminds me of my childhood, just like in green fields, blue skies and that indescribable love of my parents. Thumb up for who shared, MARK !!!!
After so many years, now I can have the most lovey songs of The Brothers Four in my own computer and in my home. You can't imagine my happiness about this. This musics brings me memories of my home, my mom and my daddy listen all this musics to the radio every days. I love theirs voices, the sound of theirs instrumentes or the way they play it. Thank you so much and be sure I'll love you forever. From Brazil......
I couldn't believe it when I found this song from my childhood on line. Such a beautiful melody and poignant lyrics. Brings a lump to my throat each time I listen. Wonderful.
A VERY, VERY GOOD WORK.- THIS BEAUTIFUL SONG PULLS UP MY HEART BECAUSE I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS 12 YEARS OLD, MY GOLDEN YOUTH BEGINNING. THE UNFORGETABLE PART OF MY LIFE. IT IS 58 EIGHT YEARS AGO, LIKE IF IT HAD BE IN LAST SEPTEMBER.- THIS IS MY PREFERED SON FOR EVER & EVER.
More than 30 years ago, one of my first guitar lessons was this very song "Greenfields". I played it and I grew up with it and almost everyone in Vietnam I hang out with all knew this song as "Dong Xanh" It was so popular. Now 30 years later, listen to it and the whole childhood memories came back; friends, family, a little corner of the city where I played guitar and sung with my friends. Even now every time I come back home, my little sister always makes me sing this song to her. What a wonderful song! Thank you so much Mark, for posting this.
One of the favorite songs of my father. The first time he listened to this song, he was driving, immediately he went to the music store and bought the record. Sadly he passed away 5 years ago , but anytime I listen to this song, it brings me close to him😢

My friends and family make fun of me because I love "old people" music. I make fun of them because their souls have not been touched by beauty and magnificence yet.
This song is full of stories in my youth. It touches my whole being . Those were the days where we just run in the grass, play hide and seek under moonlight, picnics under a favorate tree,. I am missing those moments(crying...) now that we are on our 60's all I do is relate those moments thinking they would not come back. The consolations I get is when this song plays on my iPod I see my youth. I love these guys The Brothers Four especially the second to the left. I dearly love him for some good reasons. God bless them all
Great song. I used it while I was teching English in Nicaragua. The songs in itself attracted me with passion. It devours me with it words and music when I heard for the first time. This was young. America is a loving nation a part from its derty politics.
This used to be one of the favorite songs of my father who recently passed away. He always used to hassle me about the music I listen to, which is more contemporary stuff, but he failed to realise that he'd passed on to me his passion for good music which is an integral part of my life 24/7. When I am nostalgic and want to feel him beside me once again, I come back to these marvellous songs. I sit quietly and listen to them and I get transported back to a time of innocence,. A time of happiness and hope when the fields were green and skies were blue and I was fortunate enough to learn what great music and great art should sound like. Miss you dad, whish you were here.

Nerves, bro
You cried because you're human and you know when you hear a great song you're a special soul for this song to make you cry
Same like me ...always crying when hears this song
Once there were greenfields kissed by the sun;
Once there were valleys where rivers used to run;

Where are the greenfields that we used to roam?
I'll never know what made you run away.
How can I keep searching when dark clouds hide the day?
I only know there's nothing here for me,
Nothing in this wide world left for me to see.
But I'll keep on waitin' 'til you return.
I'll keep on waiting until the day you learn
You can't be happy while your heart's on the roam.
You can't be happy until you bring it home,
Home to the greenfields and me once again.
Thank you
Thanks for the lyrics 🙂
