The Measure is absolutely 5 stars. My hubby and I discussed this book so much.
The Measure didn't grab me at first, but I ended up loving it! The way the storylines come together was fantastic.
The haunting of velkwood sounds so good! I have no idea there was a sapphic relationship in it!

the measure was SUCH an AMAZING premise... but then I just didnt love a lot of the characters we were following, especially the obnoxious political storyline that felt like the main one. I really want a book 2, where we follow different people! lol

I never cry and I cried at the end of The Measure. I couldn't describe The Haunting of Velkwood either. We must be on the same wavelength.
Watching you read The Watchers and thinking "Isn't this a new movie?" Then you mentioned the movie.
It sounds very Shayamalan, even though the book was not written by a member of the family.
You received so many good recs! I read The Measure in January, & and it is still my fave read of the year. 🎉 The Good Part was a 5⭐️ and The Haunting of Velkwood was a 4.5⭐️ for me! I have Strange Sally Diamond on my tbr , & plan on reading it soon!
I HIGHLY recommend Earthlings by Sayaka Murata as well. It is basically a horror version of the same story/message but with a main character that hasn't found a way to adapt to society, which is where the horror comes in

I loved convenience store woman! That author also has a short story collection called Life Ceremony that I really liked - it was super weird and interesting. I was also pleasantly surprised when I read The Good Part, I had read other books from sophie cousens and found them to be alright, but this new one was super funny and entertaining

Oooh I’m glad you enjoyed Convenience Store Woman! I also really liked that one, but I hesitate to recommend it based on what people’s perspectives are on an unconventional, less ambitious career path.

I was excited to read The Watchers based on the premise and the fact that M. Night Shymalan's daughter was directing the movie. I found the book hard to understand. Maybe it's just me. I wonder if the movie is better.
For me it wasn't but haven't read the book. I do think they explain things pretty well or some things are just not explained, which feels fine with this kind of story for me too

The Measure was my favorite book of last year!! I’m surrounded by non-readers and I just wanted to grab people off the street to talk about this book!!! Then I realized that’s creepy and I don’t really like people. But I love this book!!!!

I loved The Measure. I read it last year and I still think about that book a lot!
I just read Baby X, which I think you’d like. It reminded me of The One by John Marrs. It’s near future and sperm or eggs can be created with DNA cells. So now people have kids using crafted DNA and celebrity dna is stolen, etc. Not a 5 star for me but is thought provoking like The Measure or The One.

Would you read the sequel to The Watchers? I loved the movie and want to read the book, but I just saw the sequel comes out in the fall of this year.

Had the same exact weather over in the UK, very rainy June. Velkwood sounds very interesting. I wanna watch the watchers movie but didn't think it sounded as good in book form, will definitely stick to just the movie

This books sounds similar to The Summerhouse by Jude Deveroux (2001) about three friends who go back to any timeline in their lives and also can choose to remember their old lives, change their old lives, or come back and not remember their old lives was very good. Ps - always enjoy your videos❤

I was so interested in The Measure but then you compared it to The Immortalists, which is my most hated book ever, and I was like, nevermind 😭.
I saw The Watchers in the cinema yesterday. Seems very similar to the book as in good movie, but execution was not the best. Think I will just skip the book

I felt the same about the Watchers. It felt like an eternity. I ended up doing 3x speed at times to get through it.
