I had this movie idea recently.
You know how some people who commit suicide are the last people you'd expect to have depression? This is the story of the unseen part of their life. It's aim is not to shame anyone in his life or put any blame on friends and family for not knowing, like some suicide-focused films, but maybe just to shed light on certain everyday signs that people might not notice. There's nothing more you could've done and it's an additional tragedy if you also fall into this pit of suffering because of the loss of a loved one but now at least we can be better towards our fellow man.
It's about a man that's incredibly helpful, responsible, life of the party, everyone likes him being around, walks into a room an instantly illuminates it, whenever there's a problem and everyone's scratching their heads and pulling their hair he immediately puts in a course of action, etc. just a man of character.
Act 1 would introduce all the characters maybe at his funeral, friends and family and all that, talking about how great a person he was, maybe a bit of back and forth with flashbacks. I really don't want to overuse flashbacks. Maybe just two or three times and exclusively for Act 1. It'll show how great of a person he is and how everyone not necessarily turns to him but when he's involved in their life, things get noticeably better. At the end of Act 1 we need to introduce the conflict. However, it's not his conflict but the various problems his friends and family have in their lives, whatever it may be; illness, finances, relationships, career, academics, what have you. It's showing how considerate he is going out of his way at the drop of a hat as he hears about a problem.
Act 2 would be him resolving all these problems but also a gradual shift of focus from the lives of his friends and family to more frequent glimpses into more intimate and solitary part of his life, showing how he talks to himself, how he's barely struggling with his own problems, etc. It's sort of like he's giving everyone his all but it's also taking from his own life. This would be the point where the small hints would be obvious to the viewer because it's now in context with his own problems, when it might seem completely anodyne and unnoticeable if you're interacting with a person whom you don't know anything about his personal life. This progresses with more focus on his life and things that might be taken in jest and light-hearted self-deprecating humour with how he regards himself to be undoubtedly insulting and resentful towards himself.
Act 3 would be the fall into completely destructive habits with moments excusing himself in moments of misery, maybe alcoholism, failed suicide attempts and how he tries to show face to people so they won't be bothered with it. The focus is now completely with his life and his everyday problems. The climax would be the implied suicide while you'd show everyone else having better lives because of him. Maybe, catch up to the present back to the funeral where everything people have been saying start making sense and they start realizing these things that they thought was nothing.
I wouldn't want a cheesy ending like a scholarship for him or a memorial just cut to black as they're all sitting together at that moment of complete agreement and realization of how terrible life is even to the best of us.

I'm going to try and script doctor Karl's movie idea.
Ok, so this dude is injured like stated. He is on a life support machine not in a coma. Set it so it's a case of his body failing him and he is going to die due to (insert medical condition here). His brain is healthy and the doctor has a procedure that's so controversial he wasn't granted permission to pursue it by the hospital but he offers his wife the chance to have a portion of his brain transferred to her in secret in order for him to live on in some capacity. She is told they will have a shared memory and a duel conscious only his will be of a more submissive nature. It's implied she will face grave criminal charges if anyone discovers what they've done so she needs to keep this secret due. She agrees.
They perform the surgery and the doctor says it will be a slow process at first. Explains she will see flashes of memory of his and that she may have different behavioural tendencies but she will still be her. She will just have him reside as a living part of her. At first it's a little confusing, quick flashes of memory of him playing as a kid, or of them on their first date and she can feel how he felt that day. This becomes joyous as she feels closer to him then ever. She can starts to remember his childhood and the things that affected his character along the way and how they shaped him into the became the man she loved and it's quite spiritual.
Later, things seem to be carrying on as blissful as before but she starts to have strange dreams about and one features a woman she doesn't recognise. She also starts over time to get the impression their are certain memories being held back from her and that there is now a part of herself that she she doesn't know. She becomes suspicious and starts to investigate her husband's past but feels like his part of the brain is actively trying to thwart her. That it's exhibiting aspects of control. She can't be sure but it's things like texts being deleted off her phone. Or notes she has made going missing. She starts to believes that he was having an affair with this mystery dream woman and that somehow his consciousness is able to stifle her attempts to find out. She goes to the doctor who performed the op to tell them what's happening. He reassures her that it isn't possible. His consciousness doesn't have the ability to do these things and she is probably just stressed and misplacing things or confusing herself from being tired. He tells her to rest and reassures her his part of the brain is completely subservient to her part. She thinks he might be right. He reminds her of the trouble they both face if it's exposed what they have done. They depart.
Things start to go back to normal for a little while. She gets on with life and starts to think it may have all been brought on from the trauma of the operation. Till one day she notices something out of the ordinary. Something misplaced, and fresh dirty boots. She starts to be concerned again as she is now starting to have flashes of memory from time to time of her husband with this dream woman. Of them being together embracing, making love. She decides to track this person down to confront her. She begins to focus on this woman, trying to force herself to pull memories from his consciousness and eventually she does have more flashes of memory where she is able to remember more detail but still feels this is somehow being held back from her, she isn't seeing the whole thing. That his part of the brain is blocking her out from being able to fully remember. She eventually is able to recall from a flash of memory of the name of a college. She believes this woman may be a student there. She goes there with a friend who doesn't really believe her but is trying to be supportive and starts looking through the yearbooks and records trying to find her. She isn't able to find her in the yearbooks, but they find a picture of her from last year at some college event in the records of the campus newspaper. It's about how (college team in this sport) won the big event. They go to the team manager who says she was a player of hers until she dropped out. At least that's what she assumes as she didn't come back the following semester.
Our wife is now at a dead end but she sees something on the campus that triggers another quick flash of memory. Something familiar. She has been here before. Or her husband was. She continues to try to investigate what has gone on. Trying to find this other woman but is still being blocked it seems from his half of the brain. She still finds things are being deleted off her phone, or findings going missing. She is concerned what she may be doing unconsciously and is desperate to find this woman. Eventually she, and her friend from before, are lead to a remote cabin in the woods after following more clues. It's a cabin from hers and her husband's past. They used to come here is the summer when they were first married. She then sees something that triggers another flash of memory. It's something from the background in the previous flash where she saw her husband making love to this other woman. She realises he brought her here. She finally starts to think she has figured this out. She is annoyed she hasn't been able to find this other woman for full closure but is starting to accept what her husband had done and that is why his portion of the brain has been trying to prevent her from finding this other woman. As she thinks he made a mistake and was just trying to spare her the pain of his infidelity and how it occurred at this spot they once shared. She is starting to express to her friend how she may now be able to move on. That she can forgive him and put this behind her as she has no choice but to move on. As they are now both bound together.
But then, she sees something else in this wooded cabin area. Something that causes her to have another flash. She is then able to recall the story in greater detail from her husband's past perspective. She can see from his POV him following this woman at the college campus, secretly. He is watching her movements. We see him abduct her from where our leading lady was earlier at the college where she had previously felt was familiar. We then see him drive her bound to this place from his past he was familiar with. That he knew well. The memory of them making love from before is then revisited. Only now we see the whole thing. They weren't making love. He was raping her. We go on to see that she met a gruesome fate.
Our leading lady is frantic. She tries to explain to her friend what has occurred who still doesn't really believe it. She keeps trying to say she is just suffering due to the operation being so risky and it's messed her up. That she tried her brain. The wife then says she can prove it. She knows where the woman was burried. She takes her to a place in the woods where the ground looks like it had previously been disturbed and starts to dig with her bare hands in an almost insane manner. Her friend still is in denial then suddenly, she unearths a human hand. They now are both frightened by what they have discovered and what this means. As they talk about what to do next and about going to the police. Her friend explains they must but she keeps trying to express how much trouble she will be in. After a brief while, she agrees they must. Then they notice that there appears to be other areas where the ground was disturbed in the past and stare in disbelief about what this means. Our leading lady then has a series of flashes where she sees her husband abducting, raping and murdering other bound woman and burying them there. She is terrified and manic. Her friend then notices that one of the areas disturbed looks really recent. She remarks on this and says it looks like its fresh and they should go to the cops right now. We, the audience, now see our lead have a realisation, then we see not as a flash, but as a call back to all the previous points in the movie. We see that when her phone had had messages deleted, or notes had gone missing, that when she had gone to sleep, her body had woken up under his control. We see her deleting the messages off her phone. Of destroying the evidence. We see her sneak out and follow a young co-ed. We see her abduct her and murder her. We then see her bury the body and her take off her dirty boots when she got home in a recall to before.
We cut back to our lead having all this drop and the realisation dawns on her. She definitely can't go to the cops now. We can still see her friend in the back of the shot, talking incessantly in a panic. Repeating constantly they need to go to the police now and that they'll understand and she is trying to reassure her that she won't get in that much trouble for the operation and that they can deal with the consequences. All the time unaware of what our lead has just discovered and the implication it brings.
The movie ends with an over the shoulder shot of the friend turning her back on our lead saying she will go get her phone out of the car to call the cops. We then see our lead slowly stand out of focus. She know what she has to do.
    Fade to black.
This is my attempt at making sense out of the ramblings of a madman. Not bad for a first attempt at 5am.

You should get a white noise machine. Probably more effective and more energy efficient than running fans all night.

Ricky jumps in so quick. The things in gremlins weren’t only called gremlins. When they were cute and fluffy they were called mogwai or something close to that.

    • @Apethantos
      @Apethantos 4 роки тому +4

It's been resolved, they were talking about the Jungle Book and Mowgli. Karl said what were those things in Gremlins called, thinking, as you said, of Mogwai. Ricky lost his shit, but in a later podcast he acknowledged without any prompt from Karl or Steve (probably people sent emails defending Karl lol) that Karl was thinking of the word Mogwai.
