Thank you Mr. Fleming. I grew up in Northern California and got to learn about all that you spoke about concerning the Salmon and Anodromous species and how they are what made our beautiful forests possible. Spent a ton of time on many of the Rivers finding the Trinity to be my favorite. Never made it up into Oregon much further than the Rogue and the Umpqua. Love your informative narration even as much as your great photography, Thanks for sharing. Peace, Wheelchair John in Idaho :)

My father and me had a tug and barge operation based in wrangell in the mid 1970s. One year the fisheries department decided that anan creek was over populated with returning salmon and made it legal to snag salmon with the only stipulation being that your tri hook couldn't be more than 3 quarters of an inch. We were able to snag around 100 averaging about 10 pounds. We took them to wrangell and a cannery took half and gave us the other half for free. It was not only legal but encouraged.

    Mr. Fleming,
Thank you for another wonderful video! I had the pleasure of seeing your presentation at Trawlerfest in Anacortes, Washington. During that presentation you said that you do almost all of your video using one camera. Could you remind us of what the make and model is?
Many thanks for creating these superb videos.

The camera I use is a Panasonic Lumix GH5 which is a mirrorless camera with amazing internal stabilization. The Anan video was shot entirely handheld. For more info I suggest watching "How I make my videos" at ua-cam.com/video/dU2RXL_LfqA/v-deo.html

I am so glad that the black bear cub managed to survive his river ordeal, and pleased to know that he was soon reunited with his Mother. Two years ago last spring, we had a huge beautiful male black bear that ran through our yard. My son came into my bedroom where I lay reading and told me there was a bear in the yard. At first I thought he was joking, but as he isn't the "joking" kind, I ran to look and ,sure enough, there was the black bear , jogging through our yard. One of my dogs, Shiloh, a natural born guard and defender , began to chase him away . About half way through the yard( my yard is big at around 5 acres) , the black bear stopped, stood up and turned around, and there he stood in full splendor. He looked like a giant!! You don't realize just how big they are until you see them in the flesh, standing upright !! The beautiful and majestic Ursus Americanus!! I could see the wheels turning in the black bear's mind...it was the ancient "fight or flight" decision. Thankfully, he settled on "flight" and soon disappeared into the forest. Later, we were told by the US Forest Officer that black bear males typically roam great distances in the spring searching for romance. I hope he found it. It's the funniest thing because for 54 years I have lived in, hiked and rode 4 wheelers (ATVs) all through these hills and hollers and though I've always longed to see a black bear in my beautiful Appalachia Mountains, I never did...a bit ironic that to my great surprise I finally saw one...IN MY OWN BACK YARD!!! LOL Thank you for this video. Mr Fleming, though we live very different lives, I do believe we have one thing in common...a deep love and respect for nature. It has been heart breaking to me to see the current administration's policies toward our wildlife and their habitats. We must protect ,cherish and respect the earth and all its natural resources , and all the creatures who live on it. If we don't , what will be left for our grand children and the generations to come?? I cannot bear to think of a world without wild grizzlies and polar bears, killer whales and sharks, wolverines and caribou, elephants and leopards, lions and penguins and all the wild animals who live on this planet alongside us.

There is nothing like the flavor of fresh salmon enjoyed on the banks of a river. But unlike those magnificent bruins, I've preferred mine grilled over a campfire!
