- With the weather showing signs of winter coming sooner than we anticipated, it's time we get cracking on the drivetrain and suspension for the Rust Buckit Impreza. With a delivery of some fresh WRX subframes and suspension components, we need to pull the engine along with all of the SEVERELY rotted out factory Impreza suspension bits.

Good stuff…. Love the capt jack! Stop blowing holes in my ship! Lol
Haha, glad you enjoyed this one, thanks for tuning in!!
Good assist by the floor jack handle
Despite the huge amount of rust and two broken bolts, it was fairly easy to come out 👍🏾
Not too bad honestly, we actually managed to have some fun believe it or not!
Those 19mm bolts for the front control arm love to snap, had 3 snap on me with various GCs. Also the rear subframe bolts, the diff outrigger bolts and, well I guess any bolts with captive nuts. Just be glad you didn't have to turn the Jesus bolts.
Hello from SoCal! Blessed I never had any seize hehe
I did have 1 rear trailing arm up front bolt snap the tacked insert inside, that was fun.
Gets a A+ for the background noise at the beginning. Of course that rumble would make it through the mic!
Love to see the "restoration" please take an angle grinder to the chassis in those crusty spots and do a new coat of under liner.
Call it a resto on a time and money budget! Absolutely, we'll be stripping the panel off once more and grinding/cutting away the major rust.
Vary good episode, loving the little meme and cut aways
Glad you enjoyed it, we're definitely starting to have some fun with these eps!
i have also tried to wrangle out a 2.2 with a buddy. i was also unsuccessful lol
Not the best thing to do to your back.
Love seeing gc builds. Hope to do one at some point in my life. Sick hoodie Art! Got my ewg from touge factory back in the day. Are you putting a grimmspeed tmic on the build or fmic. Excited for the outcome
They're such a fun car to work on because of the simplicity of the design, long before a bunch of safety and driving systems were shoved in! I would definitely encourage that; with GC Coupes/Sedans getting more expensive, I would suggest finding an Impreza Outback Sport Wagon and digging into that. Thanks for tuning in and for all the GS support, it's much appreciated! -Art
I would recoat the subframe before you guy put it all back on to prevent more rust on metal parts.
Definitely not a bad idea, it does have a factory coating, but could use another layer.
You guys could of just unbolted the crossmembers, struts and the rear trailing arms and dropped the whole thing out in one go with the lift there.
And miss out on all that juicy UA-cam content?? No way!
Im shock the bolts snapped instead of the nuts break off the chassis. On my gc8 one of the rear ones the nut broke off the chassis
Same here! We did have rear nuts snap off so we'll have to dig in a little deeper to fix those.
If that core wasn't leaking would of been good to flip. I do all I can to salvage these cars, Subaru won't help us.
That's a good point, maybe it's not too late to pull it out of the dumpster!
@@GrimmSpeed You going to mention your blower plans in a future video? I have yet to install mine, I got this little unit from the UK for a defroster. Forgot the brand off hand
