After the original off-Broadway run(s) in New York and prior to its Broadway run, the show played at the A.R.T. in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I saw it there and loved it. When it moved to Broadway, Josh Groban was brought in to play Pierre, but with all due respect to him, it is truly an ensemble show and not a star vehicle. I'm glad that it's having its UK premiere in an intimate space (the A.R.T. seats ca. 500, and I wouldn't want to see it in a larger venue), as the words and facial acting are very important to the impact of the piece. All best wishes for a successful run!
In fairness, Mary is initially in the books described as being pretty, the perceived plainness coming from her devout faith and lack of overt frivolity, especially when contrasted with Natasha's more open and extroverted personality.
@@cek792 they definitely could have found a way to modify it, though, like they did for the tonys. or how hadestown modified the lack of a lift or moving walls on tour. the staging would not have been as cool, but at least it would have been something.
Not every broadway show tours. This one likely didn't because of the complexity of the set (even a trimmed down version, to keep the original spirit, would be expensive) and because of the... drama. Not super appealing to producers
i need this pro shot so bad

So would we! :-)

Cannot wait to see this!!!!!
SO GOOD
I'VE BEEN WAITINGGGGGG
And Mary is plain (but Mary looks like a supermodel)

I've seen the show twice. It's genuinely difficult to not concentrate on her, when she's on stage.
I can't wait to see it!!
We can't wait either!
The voice and presence of who performs as Princess Mary is amazing, sadly it was ideal to be Natasha.
Pierre looks like Rick Grimes 😍

Is this west end? Or off west end?
The production is at the Donmar Warehouse in London.
why didn't this show ever tour in the united states, though?!?! all broadway shows tour, even if they were flops. ugh, i do not get it.
that stage could not have toured at all, no way in heck that would have taken too long and been to expensive even stop to stop
