So glad I was able to watch this fansubbed back in the day. It's my favorite Macross title of all time and this is my favorite opening for Frontier. I can't wait for that promised worldwide home release, whenever it happens.
The transforming toys are even better. Very expensive but worth it because Shoji Kawamori designed the best transforming mecha spacefighters of all time. The thing about macross is it isn't just appealing to mecha show watchers. The music is what draws in the normal people too. That's what seperates it from Gundam.

one of the coolest things in Frontier was how much it referenced/paid homage to the roots of the franchise! the way Alto rescues Ranka when she's in the air in the first episodes was the same as Hikaru saving Lynn and taking her into his cockpit. or the roy focker/pineapple salad reference when Ozma talked about pineapple cake to his girlfriend before he (almost) died. very cleverly and nicely done

We thought the little kid character was doomed because he had the green valkyrie fighter. (in the original Kakizaki flew the green one and dies) They knew we were expecting this and made it so the guy with glasses and cool and calm personality actually dies this time to troll us. LOL

Hayate is such a copy of Alto but without any back bone or presence as the protagonist. Alto feels like he worked to get where he ended up but Hayate went from zero for more than half the series to hero without ever really seeing that progression and development. I dunno maybe I'm just being harsh because I prefer Frontier but I feel like even the world building in Frontier was better, you had a nice mix of action, comedy, romance, music and slice of life with great mechs to top it off. Delta just feels all over the place, like it can't quite grasp what made Frontier so great.

I like Macross Delta for the fact that the protagonist actually both got together at the end. Other than that the animation and plot is a little lacking but still entertaining.
Probably Harmony Gold. Shitbags that they are, determined to keep their greedy mitts on the "Robotech" license and block anyone from posting anything Macross related on American-hosted sites unless they get paid.

子供の頃マクロス見てて、シェリルパイセンも好きだったけど、無駄に露出が多すぎるのと、歌上手いけど微妙に声がオバサン臭いのと、態度があざとすぎるのがなんか嫌で、どっちかっていうとランカをずっと応援してた。なんかシェリルばっか優遇だし、劇場版でランカ失恋しちゃったのは悲しかったけど、マクロスFは永遠の神作。
ずっと永久に閉じ込めるのもいいけど、シェリルがトップスターのバトンを渡して、ランカがトップスターになるのも見たいな〜ってずっと考えたりもする笑
