My father died suddenly when i was 20, in his apartment he had 4 cds out he'd been listening to. St. Dominic's preview, His band and the street choir, Tupelo honey and Moondance. This music helped me thru, gave me insight into my father, and still brings me back to my dad in my soul.
Vans music is extremely powerful. I understand you fully. Been listening to him since discovering him in 1984. His music and voice are powerful, mystical and soothing all at the same time. Very haunting what it can do to you... Stay strong. My best wishes.
I hear so many stories like this about people discovering Van’s music from those they love. Makes sense - his music is all about the deepest love in our hearts.
powerful story! His music knows virtually no boundaries. He catches on every day life, spirituality, the eternity's, and love. Thanks for your comment.
My younger brother was taken too soon by cancer at the age of 25. The night that he died, in the hospital we listened to Moondance 2-3 times through. Afterwards, I listened to Into The Mystic over and over until I had come to some kind of reckoning with it all. Van will never know how his words and music comforted me on that night, but I will never forget it.
I saw an interview on the BBC he gave right after he became Sir Van. He was asked if he would do anything different if he could do it all over. He said he would never want to be famous.
My eyes began to fill up with tears. If he yanked on just one more heart string I'd be crying like a baby. This song is so reverential. A little melancholy while still being uplifting. He was born out of an era in which we needed him badly. It got very mystical, and very spiritual. The Holy Ghost moved through many people in that generation. And no. It's not just music. Good luck with that heart chakra. Belief has little to do with it. Ask Van. The jet-set was flying too high to see his point of view. Peace and Blessings. NFA
I caught Van at The Blue Note in Boulder Colo just three months before this in Nov, '78. I believe it was this band that was there and I knew that night I'd never see him better than that night. He was just killing it at this point in his career.
I was there in the first row of tables about 12 ft from Van. Was like I was sitting in his living room listening to him sing to us....that close. It was amazing. Lucky to see him in a small club like that.
There's a version on the live double album Its Too Late to Stop Now from back in the 70's that I think eclipses anything he's ever done. Do yourself a favour and look it up.
Travelling to Scotland with my late brother Pat, Van on the car tape. Reminds me of all the great hiking trips, The Man never far away. Kind Regards to everyone.
My brother in law had a video shop in Orange grove JHB and had a VHS disc of a concert Van Morrison did in the late 70'sin Germany Brilliant Loved his style since then
The very great Frank Sinatra released his song My Way in 1969. But my Celtic cousin the mighty man from Belfast town Van the man Morrison has been doing his way from the age of 16 years of age onwards and has never let me down.
People would have been starved of big shows like this in Belfast in those days. To see the native son returning (not without risk) was something special

@@sean_d The lyrics for this line in SDP are commonly misrepresented around lyrics sites. "And I hear blue strains of no regredior" doesn't make sense. What is regredior? To get the answer you have to listen to the original album version where he firstly refers to "Singing songs about Edith Piaf's soul". Then he sings "I hear blue strains of Non Regrette Rien". This refers to somebody playing Edith Piaf's most famous song "Non, je ne regrette rien" which translates as "No I regret nothing".
He is amazing he has.so much soul n his music . I can restore his looks to when he was forty . He would feel 40 years younger . What medical does to these musicians is gross . To bad I have no way of contacting him . I j7st love his music .

So brilliant. So beautiful. Thankyou for sharing ❤☘
For a guy who has released a lot of fantastic songs, this might be one of the best.
Despite his fame I still think he deserves even more recognition for his genius.
I saw an interview on the BBC he gave right after he became Sir Van. He was asked if he would do anything different if he could do it all over. He said he would never want to be famous.
Right in Belfast city - Ireland I do think that Saint Dominick's Preview was originated....!!
Cyprus Avenue , too ...!!
I think this is the best song he ever wrote.the lyrics are sublime
You're probably right. Tupelo Honey though... it's a nice problem to have, picking the best.
Or maybe Caravan. Not quite as meaningful, it seems, but still brilliant.
Ancient highway - where do u stop
Astral Weeks too
Sense of Wonder....too many incredible lyrics in all his songs to pick one!
He's the best ever, no one comes close.
I agree. No one.
Incomparable.
One of a kind!
Maybe Bob Marley
@@RMcGivern Yes, but he's worldwide x

I've always thought his singing in this particular live version is absolutely sublime. Especially in the beginning.
He sounds So good here!! Love the footage of him walking around.

Yes. best thing he EVER recorded - 70's double live album version - and that's saying something.

As someone from the Bay Area in California, it makes me so happy to see all his references to it. He's the man.
It doesn’t get any better than this.
