I'm in top 200 in my area easily as a F2P (yeah, I have a lot of free time). You can enjoy it with a good alliance, just ignore those high spenders.

once you unlock leonidas and hua mulan you can still max them using heroes medals, the only one you cannot use universal medals is King Arthur.
