    Separation of Church and State only relates to state sponsored religion. The court case that took the Bible out of schools should be overturned. The letter written by Thomas Jefferson referring to the "Wall of Separation of Church and State" did not mean faith should be removed from the public square.

    • @greg_austin
      @greg_austin 3 роки тому

      Nope. "The Wall of Separation" does not mean that religion must be taught in public schools as much as it means public schools must be defunded altogether, since education is not the business of government. Prison walls are instead government's business..

      @@greg_austin I'm not making a case for religion in schools, just that it was assumed it would be part of everyday life, including Government service.

      @@jasonlambert2226 The assumption was that government would not commandeer the nation's education, that schooling one's children would be a private affair, and private affairs are centered around Church, not The State.

      Yes. As of 2016 there were at least 60 Christian schools in Israel. They are known for high academic scores. Christian Arabs in Israel tend to have higher than average incomes and be well represented in the professions.

    If the Old Testament was so "conservative," then why did we need to conserve the New Testament for 2021 years?

    • @marchess7420
      @marchess7420 3 роки тому +1

      The "new testament " is grounded on the old. Hazony's point is that the Anglo American political tradition is deeply grounded in the "old testament ". See Eric Nelson's, the Hebrew Republic

      @@marchess7420 Ridiculous. The US Constitution, and it's predecessor, the Magna Carta, are both founded upon principles developed by The New (Christian)Testament, itself a solution to the problems posed by the Old (Jewish) Testament... “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on The Gospel of Jesus Christ."

      @@greg_austin - what's ridiculous, in your opinion? That the new testament is grounded in the old or that the founders and their mentors relied heavily on the jewish bible and Jewish tradition? If the former, your position is absurd. If the latter, go write a critical review of prof. Nelson's study.

    • @greg_austin

      @@marchess7420 Like saying the entire US is based on a problem whereby the established solution to that problem has already been codified, but then the country ignores the solution altogether.
      That's ridiculous.
      Instead, The US is based in THE SOLUTION to the problematic mess that is The Old holier-than-thou (laws for thee but not for me) Testament. Instead, the US is based in christianity. Two Great Commandments--not Ten Kinda Odd commandments.

      Old Testament: "Thou shalt not kill... except in self-defense, or defense of a third-party whose life or limb is in jeopardy, and how do we know that you defended yourself with the right amount of force, and at the exact proper moment, so we're going to drag you through court and you will be a defendant in a case that we bring against you by claiming The State is your prosecutor, because you're a racist and a bigot and a homophobe and you hate cats and your ancestors probably hired slaves to make a sandwich for them when they had the flu, instead of allowing their hired-hands to live like animals in fetid mud huts, all because we can, and we need to justify our own high-paying jobs that we wield over you."
      New Testament: "Love God, and love thy neighbor as thyself."
