SW: A New Hope (Edit yes I got the name wrong, I get it, thank you, I was talking about the first movie in the new trilogy, I just got off work and was mindlessly tired, cut me some slack) was the movie where I decided Ud never trust the critics of the site, and would only occasionally even check it for anything. Sometimes I don't even agree with the audience; I thought Light-year was a decent movie and don't see the hate for it.
and the fauci doc being the polar opposite. almost 100% critic, almost 0% audience. they don't even try to hide the sham.
@@MnemonicHack The problem with Lightyear is that it's a bland, mediocre movie who costed way too much for what it was. The most 5/10 animated movie I've seen outside of some kiddie, direct to DVD/streaming movies, but this one was on theaters were it really didn't belong. Can't even say the animation was that good, yes the level of detail in the texturas is neat, but outside of that, it has nothing going for it. It's not a bad BAD movie, mind you, and if you liked it then more power to you, but coming from motherflipping Pixar? Unacceptable, specially if, again, we consider how much it costed to make

What book was that from?
Love Ciaphas Cain. PancreasNoWork summed him up perfectly: "The emperor's silliest clown fighting his funniest battles."
I used to go solely off of audience scores, but when they came out with “verified” audience, I knew the whole gig was up

I thought that was already well known for many years...
A couple clowns called me a conspiracy theorist for pointing out that The Last Jedi always stayed at the same score for weeks. It would have logically gone up and down at least a little bit if the actual score wasn’t already below what they're showing and that's just the set minimum...
Well known. Never confirmed yet.
Obi Wan jumped from 53% to 61% reviewer score overnight mid-season. This wasn’t immediately after an episode. It already had 100,000’s of reviews so it would have taken 1000’s of only positive reviews in the space of a day. When I checked the latest reviews they were mostly negative. They definitely did something in the background to ensure the 60%+ fresh rating.
It’s not a conspiracy “theory” if it’s true. The moon landing was a “conspiracy theory”. Jeffrey Epstein hosting Bill Clinton many many times on his pedo island is not a “theory”.
We've always suspected, but now it's actually being confirmed
what do you mean, last jedi staying at the same score makes perfect sense. why would more people want to review it.
Rotten tomato legitimacy, and integrity, summed up with one show.
“Rings of Power.”
🍅 84%
🍿 34%
They never let it go below 33% or whatever too. And the negatives kept piling in, then mass moderation. Amazons own ratings was even more blatant with the moderated ratings and people being emailed to say there review was not wanted
No way 1/3 of viewers actually liked that dreck.
You're forgetting that most negative reviews get dumped ONLY if it is a studio movie. If it is an independent movie, I'm pretty sure there is ZERO "defense" for a privately made indie movie.
Yep, it speaks volumes in a few words
Gotta admire the audience scores from time to time. They're usually more honest than the critics themselves.
One of the most obvious ones to me was Captain Marvel. When I saw all the positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, I knew something was up.
Saying Rotten Tomatoes provides balanced and accurate reviews is akin to saying Jimmy Fallon fosters a positive working environment.
You read that news too!
What happened with Fallon?

The way I used rotten tomatoes is to look at lowest "critic" scores and watch those movies and avoid those highly scored. Works every time.
So Rotten Tomatoes gets your eyeballs, frequently.
Which is exactly what they want.
There's a few good movies where critics agreed with audiences. I usually trust the unverified users score that they hide away.
You just have had a great time watching GI Joe, Transformers 6 and The Eternals then 🙄
it's funny how Netflix One Piece's lowest critic reviews all have lines about complaining that the show tries too much to please fans
To be fair, quite a lot of critics are snobs and consider themselves to be unique and not like the filthy fans. So I wouldn’t be surprised if that type of critic would (a) consider winning over the fans a bad thing and (b) wouldn’t have enough creativity to phrase it differently than all the other by the numbers snobs.
Basically showing that they fail to understand the purpose of a film or show.
I mean, Ahsoka tries too. But it does so by breaking all logic to insert cameos in every episode.

I have not read a main stream critics review (unironically) for at least 15 years. There is no point when the reviewers are not being honest.
Even before that, with the likes of Siskel and Ebert, I stopped listening to them when they graded every film on whether or not it was “award worthy”. They would always pump the tires of awful movies and just drag on movies with things like childish comedy in them, the movies that weren’t meant to be taken too seriously.
Jeremy Jahns is pretty reliable still. I think he was one of the few critics who gave a positive score for joker if memory serves me right
it's remarkably handy for knowing the official narrative
not that there is much of a narrative to movies, that's moreso with politics
@@goddepersonno3782 I think the two go hand in hand. In either field, the narrative gets pushed.
How does one read a review unironically? Or ironically for that matter?
You were called a conspiracy theorist if you told people that rotten tomatoes "manipulated" their score. Now there is proof.
The unfortunate trend. Get called racist? It means you're right about a subject. Sexist? Right. Bigot? Right. Conspiracy theorist? Yep, you guessed it, right.
A conspiracy theory being true takes about a couple months to a year from now.
Are you saying the theory of gravity must be bogus because it's a theory?
I'm being facetious, but look at the words. Conspiracy. Theory. Now consider the following:
1. Do conspiracies exist, at least in potentia?
2. If so, what would you call a body of repeatedly proven hypotheses regarding a conspiracy?
Doesn't matter if there's proof, some "people" will never acknowledge because they're too demoralized, as Yuri Bezmenov called.
Knowing the type of NPCs we're dealing with, a significant number will still deny it, if only to spite you personally.
Couldn't this sort of thing be seen as misleading investors?
all the PR is to get the tickets sold in first couple of weeks.. and they've made their $.. dust will settle with genuine reviews after.
I think so, and if you were an investor in one of the studios involved in this, you could start organizing a class action lawsuit. But the whole process of determining liability will take a long time, a lot of people will claim ignorance, and the studios have very powerful lawyers. The most juicy target here would be the big studios, and they're also the hardest target. Like, good luck going after Disney, they'll fight this for 10+ years, but are OBVIOUSLY deceiving the public's reviews and likely the box office sales, metrics that investors use to determine production quality and therefore the company's financial health.
I always knew this was happening but seriously? For only $50 these critics were willing to do this? Guess that tells you how much their opinions are worth. Nothing. Zero self respect.
I would think that makes their opinion worth $50 🤔🤔🤔
I have never in my life looked to the ratings of critics, always audience opinions.
I'm fine with them getting that $50 since their opinions mean nothing to me
Isn't that the average cost of going to the movies in a "brick&mortar" these days?
@@theeffete3396 Their integrity is worth $50. It's not an opinion if it can be bought. It's just marketing.
Rotten Tomatoes is the worst method to aggregate reviews, but mainstream critics and Hollywood seem to like it cause it rewards mediocrity. Most mainstream movies or shows won't get under 60% in it, maintaining an illusion of quality.
Correct. The normies also usually trust the reviews on there too because most of them don't have the time to look into how movies are actually scored behind the scenes. All they see is "certified Fresh" and assume something must be good.
Yup. I only trust my own eyes.

If game companies buy UA-cam reviews and let’s plays (which they do) then yeah movie companies buying critics is way easier
To be fair, I've found some really nice niche games through obviously paid let's-plays. I don't have a problem with that kind of advertising as the streamers show you exactly what kind of gameplay you'll have to expect and you have a fair chance to evaluate if the advertised product suits you. You'll have to be a bit sensitive about what they _don't_ say about the game, though. One of them is a man whose name escapes me at the moment, but he’s very critical, and he drinks a lot.
It became blatant during the MCU. For most of the MCU, the RT reviews were mostly that super hero movies were the equivalent of watching children bash two action figures together, but suddenly RT started giving glowing praise to the MCU releases and it was pretty clear there were both kickbacks, and a lot of unknown critics writing up the articles. One thing people don't mention often is how they categorize reviews (Drinker actually mentions this at 10:40). Meaning how they decide if a review is 'fresh' or 'rotten'.
I remember when Man Of Steel came out, a British newspaper gave the film 3/5, with a review that suggested that it was ok with some problems. RT labelled that review 'rotten'. So, of course, if they do that a lot it will really affect the overall rating/percentage.

Knew this for ages! Just look at the site and the reviews it’s like bots wrote the reviews
Wasn’t it already known since the whole Cpt Marvel campaign?
Now that we have confirmation that reviews are being bought, we'll probably hear confirmation eventually that studios buy out theaters, too.
This and Politics, has taught me to ask for receipts on EVERYTHING. My niece came up to me and told me something she learned in school. I told her to go find reputable sites and print me off some evidence, that what she learned was true. She came back an hour later, and she learned it wasn't true, but she found the actual truth, and printed it off. I gave her a $50 for her time, and told her to never take anybody at their word unless you have proof they are normally honest.
The new Little Mermaid has an audience score in the 90s with over 10000 reviews so I don't even know if I trust audience scores anymore.
I thought everyone already knew this...
Same. RT was always questionable
And this is why anyone who doesn't live entirely by politics/ideology ignores critic reviews
Rotten Tomatoes used to be fairly accurate but things changed when they were bought by Fandango.
Fandango also sells movie tickets so that revenue depends on people buying tickets to movies with positive reviews.
I'm sure that's just a coincidence. 🙄
So now we know why the scores of Ghostbusters 2016, the last Jedi, captain marvel
, and fragging cuties are rated differently by critics than what they should be.
I used to follow Rotten Tomatoes years ago. Nowadays there are a few youtube movie reviewers I watch and trust to get my recommendations. Angry Joe, Chris Stuckman, Jeremy Jahns, Dan Murrell and of course The Drinker!. I will usually try to see at least 2 or 3 of the reviews before deciding to see a movie. I was not going to see Grand Turismo, but positive reviews by these channels got me to go, and I had a good time. These channels have also saved me a lot of money by allowing me to avoid stinkers.
Stuckman bashed The Drinker in one of his videos in a typical trend of attacking "problematic UA-camrs" to score points in his circle since he wants to get into Hollywood. I was also a Stuckman viewer, but I dropped watching his videos after that. :/
I used to work in movie marketing. It happens all the time and has been happening for a long time.
Just a little reminder who owns Rotten Tomatoes: Warner Bros. Discovery (25%), NBCUniversal (75%). That's basically enough to draw some conclusions.
Remember a while ago when there was a joint lawsuit about false advertisement in trailers? And actually resulted in a change in how they had to make them?
Could the movie critic industry be also sued like that? The whole review industry could count as false advertisement or at the very least bad practices to sue them?
People with common sense and critical thinking already knew this (same as with the award shows), but it's always funny when they get caught red handed!
No way! Say it isn't so! I don't believe it! 😂 can we call this Reviewersgate?
I remember seeing a review on rotten tomatoes from a critic that gave the dark knight rises a rotten score and the reasoning was “it won’t make much sense unless you’ve seen the first two films” - that was it for me
It's a damn shame how slow the species crawls. What Chris is saying about the media here, I've been saying since the mid 2000's.
How could anyone take RT seriously after giving cuties a good review
Being hated by Hollywood should be considered a badge of honor, tbh.
"How do you think people become famous, who are morons?" I always thought it was social media lol
You guys are years behind on this one. If you go into the comments of audience reviews you’ll be able to tell within a few minutes which movies have been overwhelmed by fake studio reviews.
