Purchased this unit a week ago and got it installed. Everything works great, except. No iPhone mirroring, I have a 4K hdmi cord plugged in but no signal to the unit. Have you see this problem?
I think he mentioned this in a separate video that the HDMI cable needs to be a 1080p (aka “Full HD”) cable to work, apparently it doesn’t work with 4K HDMI cables. Give that a try.
Question for the group: what's the deal with these Android 10 based head units (e.g. XTRONS), they seems to be priced competitively and have a seemingly far superior OS to the proprietary OS made by the big car audio manufacturers. So why aren't they taking over? What am I missing?
This is a GREAT question and I know your asking for the group but We’ll throw our 2 cents in. Since we have had first hand experience with these android based radios. Whether the customer has brought their own radio in or we have sold it to them. 1. These radios are suppose to be plug and play but rarely does everything work correctly. Such as the steering wheel controls or factory backup camera and there is rarely support on how to make them work. 2. The units that don’t have built in apple carplay need a dongle that needs updating through the radio which need to be hooked up to WiFi order to update the software. Now I have seen some of these radios with built in carplay/android but we haven’t installed one yet so I’m not sure how well they function. But I know updating software on these units can be challenging. 3. There is no tech support from a lot of these companies so if you get stuck you have to resort to google searches, forums or UA-cam. All the major car audio manufacturers have tech lines with people who’s first language is English so you don’t have to struggle when talking with a heavy accent. 4. Those are tablets acting as radios. Not radios that look like tablets. As for me I want to replace my radio with a radio not a tablet. Yes if your surfing the web or streaming video it’s easier to do on the android tablets but beyond that I don’t see the OS being better. 5. And this is the BIGGEST. They do not sound the same, If you like sound quality the and flexibility to adjust the sound then there is no comparison when you take an android based radio against any major car audio manufacturers radio. No self respecting Audiophile would ever install an android radio as the headunit. Remember this is we’re your sound is created so you can have the best speakers and amps but if your signal isn’t clean then it’s all for nothing. This is my biased opinion and I’m sure others have had success with android radios. At Breakers we try to sell the most reliable, hassle free equipment on the market. And I can say with confidence that whenever we come across these radios they almost always give us trouble. As far as the price difference all I can say is that the big four, Alpine, Pioneer, Sony and JVCKENWOOD are all based out of Japan and although the radios are made in China they are not engineered and development there. Also these companies have control over the manufacturing process so they don’t just pick parts off the shelves in China as ask them to be made. Whereas (I believe)the android radio are made and design in China with off the shelve parts. Buying one of these radios is like buying something off Amazon or eBay that comes from China and once you receive it you’re disappointed because of the quality or the look or it’s just not what you expected. But maybe you just keep it because it was cheaper then the alternative. OK hope that helps AND THANKS FOR THE COMMENT !!
@@BreakersStereo Brilliant answer, just what I was looking for. Sounds like there's still lots of room for improvement, having seen well integrated Android based OS on other dedicated devices, it may only be a matter of time as things become more software heavy that the premium head unit manufacturers move to using Android (or something like it) for the OS and integrating their audio engineering into it. That way they stick to the parts they are good at which frankly is not operating systems.

very simple answer. those units are pure junk, 98% of them are buggy, crash easily, pia to install. the 2% that install and work flawlessly , usually will have issues within first year.

Damn this thing is deep with eq adjustments! I sit a lot in my car waiting on my wife and watch movies n vids on my phone. How well does this work with movies aps from Android?
I bought this radio but my only complaint is that you can skip a track unless you go to the actual skip button. I also don't have the Maestro RR installed yet. I'm going to do that so my steering wheel buttons work but any idea how it works only on the screen?
I'm digging this unit BUT... I don't see a volume for loud, medium. It not have one? Also what's for the subwoofer. It just looked like 1 setting on or off?
Welp, I just bought it. So far, I'm not really impressed at all! The sound isn't all that. It has a subwoofer gain that goes to like -15 but only +5 makes no beeping sense.
@@DefMusic79 you obviously don't understand car audio then. sound is only as good as the equiptmet quality when properly tuned. if you set your gains properly on your amps, you won't need anymore than +5, and you wouldmost likely be set in negetives unless you don't have enough power to drive your sub.
Will any universal, non tvi hd camera, backup camera work with this radio? For front and rear input. The jvc and kenwood cmos hd are definitely expensive. Looking for alternatives. Anyone have or tried any aftermarket cameras that are better than the factory Toyota? Looking for recommendations. Ashamed this radio have such nice displays and the reverse camera is sooooo bad.
For anyone thinking about purchasing this HU - I’d encourage you to really think about what’s important to you. Pros - large display. Cons - lots of random reboots, occasional issues with steering wheel inputs not working - even with an RR2. Cons - if your primary use is with Android Auto, and you’re looking for widescreen support - this won’t be the HU for you. If you’re looking to use the the HDMI input - I have no clue what works with it. 4 different HDMI cables and nothing works. JVCs cable is unavailable to order. It’s a standard HDMI port with a non standard hole. Back to the support side - this unit is rocking April ‘21 firmware with no ETA for an update to support AA widescreen. For the money, there are better options.
I read about the reboot issues in an other video about the KW-Z1000W. There it was speculation of the temperature had a hand in it. Below 50 deg F/ 10 deg C. Maybe you see similar correlations. Regarding the hdmi, the cable has to be 1080p (or lower?). If you are using a 4k hdmi cable it won't work.
sounds like you either got a lemon or have done a shitty install. mine works fine in my ram with a pixel 5, and my coworkers galaxy s21 ultra. android auto has been flawless, full screen no issue. as for hdmi, i litterly grabbed the shortest cable i could find from my box of misc cables. its 3ft, looks like probably from amazon. its a bit tight against the screw on retention plate, but i got it, and it works perfectly. i haven't had any reboots, steering wheel input has never failed, only thing i notice is steering wheel inputs have a 1 second lag compared to my oem uconnect radio response.
I've read that the backlighting/screen cannot be sufficiently dimmed at night? It is annoyingly bright? Is this true? Is the 2005 f350 steering wheel controls analog?
it dims a bit if you connect the dimmer wire, it doesn't do variable dim like your cab lights. it's not too bright in my opinion . even with google maps in satellite mode. i used to turn my 8.4" uconnect screen down 2 notches, this is pretty close to that same brightness .
I have a iPhone and I can’t watch videos, UA-cam, Netflix or stream anything. I also cannot mirror anything. I have a lightning cord and that is not working either. Apple car play works tho
Hello! Thanks for the review! I had a question. On the cons, you mentioned that it did not have an HDMI output. However, on the section when you were reviewing the inputs and outputs on the back of the unit, there was an HDMI on the pigtail. Is this an HDMI input (which is weird because it already has that secured input) or output? It is so hard to find a head unit with some kind of digital out (either toslink or HDMI). Please help! Thanks!
Correct no hdmi on the pig tail. But you can use an HDMI to composite converter and go into the radio through the video input. @@BreakersStereo thank you so much for responding. I appreciate the alternative, however, my point is having some kind of digital audio out for a separate DSP to process. There are hardly any choices of head unit with a toslink, coax, or HDMI out for said application. Frustrating that I have to resort to Android units for digital out.
This headunit is mediocre at best and the post sales support is non existent. JVC basically put a half baked product out for $1200 and has no intention of fixing any bugs or making the HDMI or remote available. Never again!

There is a sub volume that has a large range. Don’t think it has a loud adjustment like the pioneers do that range from low, med, high on the loud
@@BreakersStereo so, is it worth the $1, 200?
Welp, I just bought it. So far, I'm not really impressed at all! The sound isn't all that. It has a subwoofer gain that goes to like -15 but only +5 makes no beeping sense.
@@DefMusic79 you obviously don't understand car audio then. sound is only as good as the equiptmet quality when properly tuned. if you set your gains properly on your amps, you won't need anymore than +5, and you wouldmost likely be set in negetives unless you don't have enough power to drive your sub.
@@jasonmorehouse3756 huh?
Does this not support UA-cam Music?
yes it does , use AA or carplay
Will any universal, non tvi hd camera, backup camera work with this radio? For front and rear input.
The jvc and kenwood cmos hd are definitely expensive. Looking for alternatives.
Anyone have or tried any aftermarket cameras that are better than the factory Toyota?
Looking for recommendations.
Ashamed this radio have such nice displays and the reverse camera is sooooo bad.
Agreed. But it’s not only JVC that did this pioneer too. The camera input should be at minimum 720p
How do I get it to mirror my note10 Plus
You should be able to go into your settings menu and select mirrorcast
@@LazyKatze my radio works flawlessly even at -25c when i first start the truck
Great video, can you watch Netflix or Disney with this unit?
Same question, as well as UA-cam. Can I tune into all of these with this unit
with screen mirroring , yes
I've read that the backlighting/screen cannot be sufficiently dimmed at night? It is annoyingly bright? Is this true? Is the 2005 f350 steering wheel controls analog?
it dims a bit if you connect the dimmer wire, it doesn't do variable dim like your cab lights. it's not too bright in my opinion . even with google maps in satellite mode. i used to turn my 8.4" uconnect screen down 2 notches, this is pretty close to that same brightness .
I drop 1200$ install it on my 2021 tundra well worth it
NICE!
Id like this with my 2019 titan, im just wondering if it will interfere with my console controls
Great review! Thank you!
I wonder why jvc still use a screen where you can see individual pixels in 2021?
Picture quality is quite good on this screen. Not pixelated you might have to see it in person to appreciate the quality. Thanks for the comment
the don't it's a hd screen.
🤨KMEL? Bro you got a shop in The Bay?!
Great video! I want it
Only thing I don't like is you can not see Netflix on this by screen mirroring and or what not. 🤷🏻♂️
yes you sure can
I have a iPhone and I can’t watch videos, UA-cam, Netflix or stream anything. I also cannot mirror anything. I have a lightning cord and that is not working either. Apple car play works tho
first problem is apple junk. but you need a 1080 hdmi cable
Thanks!
Its no hdmi on pigtail
Correct no hdmi on the pig tail. But you can use an HDMI to composite converter and go into the radio through the video input. Here the link to the part on Amazon
HDMI to RCA, 1080p HDMI to AV 3RCA CVBs Composite Video Audio Converter Adapter Supports PAL/ NTSC for TV Stick, Roku, Chromecast, Apple TV, PC, Lapto www.amazon.com/dp/B0732NF969/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_JVp2bct6HYmg3
Awesome video
Thank you for the excellent review!
Yeah. Thank you 🙏🏻 Thank Marcus for me for helping me with some great features that I didn’t even know about.
For $1200 couldve gave a brother a remote control 🤷🏾♂️ love the headunit
This headunit is mediocre at best and the post sales support is non existent. JVC basically put a half baked product out for $1200 and has no intention of fixing any bugs or making the HDMI or remote available. Never again!
@@awfike24 What are you having an issue with specifically? The KW-Z1000W features an HDMI input already. Have you tried reaching out to our customer support team?
JVC Customer Support: 1-800-252-5722, Thanks!
@@JVCMobileEntertainment Hi, JVC, are you guys considering reducing the thick bezels on this unit by at least half in future models?
It would give the unit a more premium look if it had thin bezels versus the current cheap Amazon Fire tablet look.
Whelp....looks like i will have to to break the bank and get it
Lol.
Or you can use your stimulus check... lol 😂
😂🤣
All of these new radios seem to be problematic...everything from the cheapest to the most expensive seems to be rebooting or constantly losing connection to AA or CP.
We haven’t really notice that. Which radio have you had issues with?
@@BreakersStereo I haven't bought one yet, have just been reading reviews. Have you had any experience with using a wireless AA adapter like the Motorola MA1 to make the wired connection wireless?
I'd buy it if the resolution is higher. It's bad with a big inch screen with little resolution.
resolution is just fine with this. your eye isn't going to notice any higher on a 10" screen bud
Damn! at the end!
I NEED THAT ADDED ACCESSORIES FOR MY HEAD REST MONITORS ...
HELP!!!!!!!
you need to turn off caps lock first
Yeah this isn't a 1080p screen. It's 720.
top of the range atoto has more features at a third of the price
I have a 2004 gmc yukon
