"So yeah, we decided when porting this to the US to make everything about going inside a human body". "Umm...no sure how that is going to work boss. Have you seen the later stages?" "What do you mean?" "Stage 3 is a freaking inferno". "Oh, ummm..he has really bad ulcers. Really...bad."
So glad to see this blast from my past. That first screen with the music and the sound effects was like a hit of a drug to me when I was addicted to this game. I felt like I was exactly where I wanted to be in the world at that time. I could get 10 minutes of play for every 10p and eventually 'turned the machine over' - once. The ending when you have to fly out as the golden bars close from both sides is a nightmare. When I won, I only got out by virtue of not having lost a life up to that point. It's a thing of beauty to see a master fly out flawlessly. Another awesome thing to see is a master playing with loads of speed-ups. The ship moves faster than the eye can follow if you are only watching, and is so fast that it's even possible to get away with movement that would have been a crash if you are quick enough with the course correction.
There are few downsides in this game: 1.Some bosses are too easy to defeat(too fast) 2.Many areas are not bullet hell, you just fly through them 3.Last boss is not boss actually 4. WTF is this at 08:45 ?!? This "boss" don't shoot and don't move, and we are not talking about the first stage boss but the 5 stage boss,he should be bad mothafucka not this ridiculous ship
@@PEG do you the 'correct' way to handle this boss because allowing those blue balls to emerge into play is usually game over? The trick I picked up was to get smack in the centre pulling back on the joystick to bring your trailing options in line and then firing like mad. The centre port is quickly taken out by the lasers while your missiles crawl up the edge of the screen on either side and take out the right and left portals simultaneously. It's a little bit hairy because the blue balls will just emerge as your missiles hit.
I use to play this in the arcades all the time and could loop the game 3 times on a single 10p and had crowds around me, i now have nearly every console version, the only one I don't have is the original Konami jamma board, i even have the ps1 version on my android phone running on an emulator, i like it that much that I named a certain selling site id after this game and have been offered money 3 times to change my name so someone else can have it, i said no every time as its my favourite game ever. 😁😁
Wowww!!! Amazing!! Nice!! You play perfectly well! I did not know this version for Playstation. I arrived at the end of the Life Force of Nes, with 0 continues and 4 lives. But it was necessary to use Konami Code. hehe I noticed some changes in stages and bosses, but I liked it. I love the music of this game.
My cousin and i watched my uncle play this when we were young. Those were some really awesome childhood memories, and we still play it together sometimes :)
Hmm....so Gradius II had some of these enemies (the floating brain, the robot with spinning arms) and introduced Poison of the Snake. I'll assume that these were Bacterion's elite armies. So Salamander / Life Force was a retaliation of the Bacterion elite army. I think....lol.
awesome ,, one of the best shoot em ups ever ever made ,,, used to play it all the time in Yorkshire in a fish and chip shop ,, u play it awesomely ,, ,, I will be honest never finished it with one credit ,, would always die in the last level and last boss bit ,, ,,
All I could remember is the ripple laser....awesome dude...was 18 then in a arcade then...eyeing up birds, watching pool money games and men smoking with skirt about...spiritual nirvana now
At the time when this came out in arcades speech in games was exceedingly rare. This was at least clear and easy to understand. You should hear the speech in Crazy Climber which was out at around the same time.

Remarkable. Congratulations and thank you for doing this

The greatest game ever made. Most shooters have downsides, this has zero.

That stage 4 boss takedown @ 6:53 is a thing of beauty, absolute diehard play!
I always liked to try and tough guy that part. The improvised dodging was a lot of fun. And at least the game is short if you screw it up lol

This is what happens when we don't drink our Kambucha... weird evil bacteria grows inside, instead of healthy backteria.

Wow! I thought I was good. I was so addicted to this in the arcade but I only ever finished it once.
Nostalgia... I used to wake early to play this game before school..
Wow! Amazing music! Nice sfx right there. I wish i will get back in time for that one.

8:20 - They cranked up the difficulty, for reals. They weren't playing anymore.
The tight control on stage 2 was incredible.
Finished the first cycle with one credit, like this, and funnily died at exactly the same place. Class. STE

This is before gradius 2
Do the balls come out at the end was always the question 😂❤️💯

Thunderbolt was never used in either Salamander or Lifeforce. It’s one of my favorite themes.
it was used as stage 2 theme in Japanese version of arcade Life Force
This game had a weird cycle on the first completion after boot up that was different to later cycles.
11:20 voice of SAGAT from Streetfighter
I could have sworn this game looped.. maybe I am losing my mind..
Teddy M no you aren’t. It did loop.
this game does loop just like its other Gradius counterparts- i could never get past the third round of it
@@murmirr I always died on the 3rd loop 😁
Interesting, so Tutankamenattack, Giga, and the snake protecting the heart and soul of Zelos were additions on the NES.
There is a Salamander anime that you can watch here on UA-cam , it may explain the story in greater detail
Salamander
Some reflexes on show here. Super stuff.
DANGER! DANGER! DANGER!
ah memories...
same in Lifeforce
There is a safe spot for stage 4 without moving a ship
All I could remember is the ripple laser....awesome dude...was 18 then in a arcade then...eyeing up birds, watching pool money games and men smoking with skirt about...spiritual nirvana now
you know the shield shrinks every time get a power up?
The trick was to go past the power ups and hit them with the back of the craft and your shield didn't shrink then, 😁
did something escape the planet before it blew up?
Superman, probably.
I think the planet is supposed to be a massive alien organism and the fighter pilot is flying through/inside it.
The Zelos Force you see fall through the floor at the end, it is that which escapes the explosion at the end as your ship does.
I will buy the original PCB at good price .
So weird. Why is this similar to gradius?
Mikael Rivacov this is a spin off of gradius
@@jabix6382 oohh fair enough. Never heard any of it thou. For a moment I thought it was some kind of hack.... A really good one😅😆
@@mikaelrivacov5705 I played it recently and it's awesome!
It’s a spin-off :)
Actually there is a difficulty higher then SP. It's the NES version >.
NES version is far, far easier than this version, trust me. The PCE port is also harder than the NES version.
NES version is cakewalk compared to this.
haha shitty voice acting at 1:55 .. its probably one of the programmers ..

Voice synthesizer, used in a few other Konami arcade games at the time.
