Barbra's chart history and success is so impressive when you consider the fact that she rarely did promotional appearances for her albums or films. Her record company had to rely heavily on print/tv ads and word of mouth. When Barbra did promote her work, her appearances were perceived to be "events" and would often bring in huge TV ratings. I think that's why the sales of previous albums would increase during the sale of a new release; her most current albums brought awareness to previous releases.
It’s a shame walls wasn’t a big hit… she didn’t do as much press as for partners or encore, didn’t have all the celebrities to help, and the album got into a “trump theme” which I think didn’t help… but I actually love walls. She is recording a new album, who knows, perhaps she gets another number one…. Imagine 12 number ones in 7 decades!!!
