Yeah...the modern era = dab paint, roll it in grease, wipe off with a q-tip. Call it "grimdark" and claim it takes a lot of skill to achieve. Sorry but when your 22 minute paint job looks like a 22 minute paint job, just fess up and say "I wanted something quick".
Nice work. I like your style as I paint Grimdark as well. I do volumetric highlights, and usually avoid doing any edge highlights. Except the top edge of the knee pad as that’s usually sticking out there. Keep the tutorials coming please!
And here I was asking myself if I’m a fuckin mad man for the amount of paints washes and thinners I’d be using for one single model. I’ve come to realize that since I don’t play and just paint using 40 different paints and spending a week on a single miniature is actually normal
This is a great video! I just got some of my first 40k kits in years so I'm excited to try these techniques. I'm especially eager to follow this guide for my Space Wolves unit.
wow dude. you just made me realize a big reason i and many others don’t have a huge interest in the ultramarines is because we see them everywhere already. on box art, all the promotional material, the videogames etc. but you’ve made them interesting again and gave them something back that i felt they’ve always been lacking with this paint style. so excited to see what comes next!
I watched this video a few days ago and thought, "wow, it's incredible what he does with just black, imperial blue and magic blue", then tried to find the video later and couldn't get back to it no matter what I searched for. Eventually got here through a reverse image search of a screenshot I took of the paints, which took me to your Reddit, which linked to your UA-cam. So glad I found it again. Liked and subbed so that won't happen twice.
I didn't see it mentioned in the video whenever he gets to metallic paints, but an essential tip is never to mix your cleaning water and brushes for metallic and non-metallic colors. the shinny bits/sparkles from the metallic will get onto your brush and make your non metallic colors be shiny.
I saw the paint list and immediately winced. Don’t have that kind of money to buy that many paints quite yet but I will still watch with interest. I’m always looking for new techniques and ways to improve
Just get the main paints you need and like you said, work on your technique and skill! you can always come back to them in the future and repaint them :)
When I was applying it I unintentionally watered it down too much and I must have agitated it to make it appear foamy, but it turned out good regardless!
Love the grimy look - baffles me that so many painters have such clean looking models, with highlights everywhere when it is meant to be a grimdark setting.
Excellent work. I'll be sure to reference this when I come work on my successor chapter. Also, where did you get the STL for that helmet? It looks great.
This was amazing. Would love to see this in 2k or 4k quality in future. Such a good format for painting. Please do grey wolves in grimdark when you can :)
I love your work! Could you do Dark Angels next? Maybe a standard green marine or/also a Deathwing bone color Terminator would be really nice to see a tutorial on, for me at least.
Hey mate, love the tutorial! Great work. The grim dark style looks great and very informative and helpful tutorial :D. Just wondering if you could do a grim dark Void Trident chapter marine!
@@YouAreAsleep you're not wrong lol, but the lieutenant model here has a lot of different elements on it that requires those extra paints and washes: the bone armor, the tyranid base, and the flamer for example. You get rid of those and you shrink your paint list by a lot because you wouldn't need them.
Love your painting style. Wrestling with creating grim dark Dark Angels in the flatter, earthier, dark olive green military styles that look good. Think World War II dark olive tank colors. Would you be willing to do a video on Dark Angels?
ive been having trouble with painting grimdark. my attempts arent convicing and just look “badly painted 😂” i will def base my army with this as standard! maybe not use every paint but def heavily inspired by the steps mentioned!
It would be nice if you make grimdark blood ravens and carachadons astra - btw in my personal opinion your tutorial are the best, i paint by my own idea, but always when im stuck in your tutorials there is all times solution for my problems
So not canon, but I've seen someone do space marine lenses as black and then hit them with a gloss varnish and they had a very intimidating look that worked really well with grim dark painting. Two what about doing the screen black with white lines and then glazing a green over to get the look of the old monochrome CRT screens?
Personally I like the slightly older artwork that trended towards a lighter ultramarine that had a more Mayan blue glow ( greenish tinted ) over all hue. This is close. The newer artwork tends towards a deeper ultramarine color ...but it tends to lack visual depth IMHO.
Eventually I will! I have a few other chapters im working on now! That is part of the model from the Leviathan box, I dont know if GW has plans or is currently selling that model by itself or not though or if there is a upgrade spru :(
Now THIS feels like a miniature painting tutorial of the modern era.

That’s such a cool Ultramarine model!
It is Heresy that this doesn't have more views! Can't wait to try some of these tricks myself.

Word. Anybody wants to tell you otherwise, can catch these hands
🤜🏾🔥🤛🏾
Been doing the same for 20 years
Never learned to play the damn game 😂
Choose my chapter because pf thos video, ill never paint like this, but this is the coolest one ive seen
I really dig these tutorials! Love the format and how you're displaying/showcasing everyting.
This is a great tutorial. Not only is the paintjob well executed but your video editing to explain it is stellar. Keep it up!!

They are kinda made to be visually "boring". They're one of the easiest factions to paint for beginners.

The camera quality really does your beautiful painting a disservice! great job 🤩
This looks incredibly sick and i hope i can try it out in the near future

Amazing!! Great painting! Thank you.
Great paintjob. thx for sharing
That Vallejo Imperial Blue looks so foamy. The final result is nice.
When I was applying it I unintentionally watered it down too much and I must have agitated it to make it appear foamy, but it turned out good regardless!
Absolutely amazing and highly impressive. Truly jealous of your talent, and there I was thinking Ultramarines were boring - not anymore!
Love the video man keep it up and take as long as you need i will willingly wait years if it means i can see your work
I would love to see a similar vid for Dark Angels... you have my sub - excited what comes next
I am working on a Successor Chapter of the Dark Angels called The Angels of Defiance that may scratch that itch! thank you!

Stunning work, you've got a subscriber for your awesome grimdark style and presentation!

Thanks a bloody lot mate, i watched this video and then decided i must redo my leviathon imperial fists and copy your grimdark ultras. Great video ;)

so awesome! can you do grim dark tsons!?
I've watched this like 5 times
Hey - thats so amazing. I'm google-ing my pants off to find the model or the conversion pieces. How did you do that?
Subscribed at like 4:59. Lovely work
Sir, would you mind to tell what figure is that Ultramarine? I loved it and would like to buy one. Best regards and excellent work of yours!
I found out, problem is find where to buy to delivery here.
Could you please tell me where did you get the head?
Where'd you get the helmet?
Can i know where you got the 3d print of the helmet? I've been looking for a primaris marine helmets without the mouth vents.
Any accurate idea what the imperial and magic blue colours would be from the AK range?
That had damn well better be a cosmetic option in SM2
Cool
Can we get a link for this helmet?

CTR lines would be too thin to made by hand on that scale, however would be interesting to get a custom transfer sheet printed and used in place.

lovely. Ive just subscribe your channel!
Where did you get the head
Could you show us how to make blood angels grim dark? Thanks
Is that a conversion? what's up with the bone armor? doesn't seem like something Space marines would use. look cool though.
What’s the helmet that was used?
Gimme a Grimdark Black Templar!! With a Helmet also where did you get that sick bone shoulder pad?
