I like how Sonny is the youngest person in the song and his plans are the most outrageous. 96k couldn't even accomplish 1% of what he says. It helps play on his wide-eyed, young, hopeful demeanor. Obviously he can't really quantify how far 96k could go at his age so it seems like a lot more money to him than the other people who pretty much all said they'd spend it on themselves.
Yup exactly!
At least Benny said he'd go to school with it. That's a pretty good plan to be fair
What sonny could have done instead is buy a house, rent it out and with that money (including if he has a job) buy another property and repeat that. Keeping rent costs low and then making other providers want to lower their costs.
Children usually have the biggest dreams

My favorite line in this: "Damn we only joking, stay broke then!" (Usnavi to Vanessa).
Hahaha. I LOVE his expressions. Probably my favorite part about him
And when he fogs the cooler glass up and draws a smiley face on it. So CUTE
@@semi-priveledgedskin2166 oh, I love that scene. Usnavi adorably trying to cheer up vanessa, sonny cringing in the background, and vanessa coldly playing him off. It's just so good. It's like a Disney movie, when the hero tries to impress the girl. Imagine Aladdin and jasmine, that's usnavi and vanessa I'd say.
@@larrypoppins6273 oh, didn't think of them like that. Very good

I love how so many Lin Manuel’s songs have a section where everyone’s singing a completely different thing and it still sounds really good and then it’s all tied back together neatly.
True. Apart from this song, there is the same thing in "Non Stop" from Hamilton and "We don't talk about Bruno" from Encanto.
This is a type of song arrangement called a Madrigal(kinda fitting, lol) that dates back to the Renaissance period and earlier. Lin Manuel is kinda famous for including at least one madrigal in all of his musical works
Notice how they changed some lyrics because it wouldn't be good in 2021, but they kept Sonny's lyrics the same (2:54) because it's still relevant to this day.
I was wondering who they would put in place instead of Trump, it would be pretty bad if they kept his name instead of Tiger Woods.
unfortunately, i feel like sonny's verse might always be relevant
I think the donald trump, line was still relevant tho (would've been more of a diss this time). And yeah it's sad that sonnys verse is still relevant. Feels also that it goes over people heads since it's such a uppity song
But I love that they don't laugh at Sonny anymore
I guess Sonny's point is also very relevant to the story itself
As someone who’s seen the movie I have no idea why this recording sounds so low energy. The scene you get in the movie is absolutely stunning and thrilling to watch. You guys will not be disappointed trust me
Thank youu, I was a bit worried actually...
Thank you for saying that, I was very worried
im willing to bet it cause they couldnt have everyone at once to record cause of the pandemic. even in, in the heights the recordings of singers sound different to others

Omg me 😂 I literally had to stay still for the last minute of everyone overlapping cause I was so overwhelmed with how amazing it sounded
They all die at the end.
Me tooo! 😂
I literally can memorize half of the song in less than 3 days for some reason and the fact is I don't know anything about the show and just hear this song many times because it's so catchy 😂
indeed.
The choreography in this scene is absolutely insane. I don't remember the last time I saw a movie theater applaud for a musical number.
I was totally mesmerized by that song, then i remembered Lin Manuel was behind this and all made sense, i still kick myself in the ass for missing experiencing this on cinema...
VANESSA’S BELT JUST REACHED INTO MY SOUL
I FELT IN MY BONES
Im really pleasantly surprised by this Vanessa and I haven't seen the movie yet!!! 😀😀❤❤
Agreed! I was a bit worried when listening to the opening number because she didn’t exhibit the same vocal strength as Karen did, but “96,000” really surprised me pleasantly! I’m skeptical about some of the other cast members we haven’t heard yet (i.e. Leslie Grace as Nina) just because they’re quite large shoes to fill, but from the reviews I’ve seen in the comments, everything is SUPER promising 😊😊😊
SAME OMG I LIKE MELTED
Melissa Barrera is sooo talented omggg
I like the fact that the orchestrations are extremely close to the original ones. Sometimes when they do movie musicals, the orchestrations can be off, but they seem to have nailed this 100%.
Exactly, and I love that the small changes just make it more 'hip-hop' if that makes sense. Like they added a bit more base which sounds great. I love both versions.
YESS. I like the into the woods instrumentals, but it's so drastically different from the original that it feels off. This feels just like the original
@@Hannah-jj2nr yeah the og sounds like latino stevie wonder since they still had to use mostly live instruments, this one they could use a drum machine since it's prerecorded
Well I mean Lin is apart of the staff and is on the cast.
I feel the same way. The last time i saw a film adaptation of a Broadway show was the Prom which i enjoyed
Something about Vanessa’s majestic, angelic singing combined with the fact that she’s basically saying “if I win the lottery I’m leaving your asses” is so funny to me, I love it.
Vanessa's riff at the key change gives me life no matter who sings it.
Am I the only one here was amazed about the "underwater part" in this scene?? I'm not expecting that, and that's so A M A Z I N G
Yeah the underwater sound was pretty cool.
Yesss omg that was awesome!!

Sameee, from what I hear I love it already!
True ❤
Corey did his thing
They sound so much alike!!!
I’ve seen a few private screenings of the movie, including one w a discussion panel w Lin Manuel, Corey Hawkins (Benny), and Leslie Grace (Nina). You guys will not be disappointed, trust me. They cut a few songs and moved around the order of some songs but in all, they kept the same magic to it. 96,000 was absolutely a great sight to watch too.
That's great to hear. How's the film in general in terms of choreography/visuals? Are there a lot of surreal elements, as I noticed a few those in the trailers?
@@its_elkku135 Choreography was absolutely mesmerizing. Including the Opening, which you can see in several trailers. I think they really did Paciencia Y Fe justice. 96,000 had the best, it was truly appealing to the eyes from the choreography to just the look in general, I think setting 96,000 at the pool was genius and you can really do more with that set than a street corner lol. My favorite, in my opinion, was only done by two actors and that was When The Sun Goes Down by Leslie Grace and Corey Hawkins. People see it in trailers and often mistake it for Sunrise, which I mistook it too at first. Speaking of Sunrise, it’s one of the songs that got cut but the instrumental shows up every once in a while throughout the movie. I’ll keep spoilers to a minimum since I think there’s a few things changed around that’s kinda interesting to see in theaters (especially the ending)
@@adrieI Sounds good. I appreciate that you're not posting any spoilers since I actually haven't seen the musical myself, I've just listened to a few songs (mostly the opening and 96,000) on UA-cam and as a Hamilton fan I'm really looking forward to this one.
@@its_elkku135 and for Hamilton fans, there’s a small Hamilton Easter egg that I happened to catch on my second watch. I laughed my ass off at it. Keep an ear out for anything that sounds really familiar, particularly a song by a tyrant.
I heard they cut a bit of Piragua and that it is shorter in the movie. Is it true?? That worries me a bit since it's already a short song 😥
I feel like Usnavi, Sonny, Benny and Pete in this song resemble a modern day Hamilton, Laurens, Lafayette and Mulligan.

Ikr omg!!! The way my jaw dropped😩😍 also that part where they all made a circle in the pool and Vanessa was in the middle omg that was incredible
Is it just me or from 4:04 to 4:54 it's like Non-stop from Hamilton where the whole cast sings together for a bit and everybody's singing fits in together.
yeah i just noticed that!
Well, then non stop part could be a reference to 96000 since In the heights is from 2008. Also in Right Hand man "32,000 troops in New York harbor" is repeated three times, two by the cast and the third one in the back, which makes the sum of 96000
That's Lin-Manuel's signature. You can also find it in We Don't Talk About Bruno and one of the songs in Moana

Perfect for Star Wars Day
I really love how each character/character group has a distinct style when they sing about what they want to do with the money. We can single out all of the different characters’ parts when they’re all singing and they still sound amazing all together. It really shows, both in the musical and reality, how everyone has a different dream and how all of them are beautiful when we’re on our own or working together to make them come true.
All of them vocalizing, harmonizing, and singing together after 4:50 is my favorite like its so good!

I’m not hearing the “lack of energy” y’all are hearing🤷🏻♀️ sounds perfect to me
Who said about lack of energy? Pretty sure everyone have a so much energy in singing the songs especially Sonny. And the choreograph was mesmerizing so i don't see any "lack of energy" or hear anyone saying 96000 scene had "lack of energy". Everyone is singing filled with excitement and the choreograph was brilliant

good news! it’s still on the album version (iTunes/Spotify) so if you stream it’s still there.
it's still included in the Spotify upload! Idk why this one (and the uploaded In The Heights) is slightly different
In the movie it's some other girl saying it.
"She was my babysitter first"
It’s in the movie
They changed Usnavi's "most of that cash" to "half of that cash" HAHA, such a small but specific change ❤️
Probably just because phonetically, the a in “half” and the a in “cash” are similar and they form a similar mouth shape so it’s just easier and more natural for Anthony to say than switching from the more closed shape when saying an O sound like in “most” to a wider shaped mouth when saying “cash”.
The audio does not give justice to how good of a scene this is. The movie is a must watch to fully appreciate the audios.
I feel these lyrics in my soul:
For real, though,
Imagine how it would feel going real slow
Down the highway of life
With no regrets
And no breaking your neck for respect or a paycheck
Best line in this whole song tbh I mean at least for me

I love Gregory as Sonny! I think i can finaly relate to him more since he is young and has my age
He also gives the vibe "i'm young but i know what i want"
At the time Robin was Sonny(on broadway), he was 19 years old
Yeah Gregory just turned 16!! He’s actually the age Sonny is supposed to be
@@aribella1004 yeah!

Yeah, it's hard to tell just from the audio... but the original definitely has much more energy
Yeah same but I think the reason why it’s so much more chill is because on tv u don’t have as much energy as you do on stage I also didn’t like the part where sonny did the rap the much. (Sorry for the paragraph)
I think this is the scene that goes down in the pool, so that's why it's chill, but to me it sounds great!

Yes. Corey Hawkins ate this role. His singing in this is just *chefs kiss*
How Melissa Barrera says barrio is satisfying AF
I love how this version has the song start like a fun tune about these characters imagining what they'd do with 96,000, but during Vanessa's part, it gets a bit somber. The tone brings everything down to show that these characters are really struggling and their desire to have a better life is a serious one. Then, by the end, the tone has built up to being a determined one. These characters are conveying that they're motivated to achieve their dreams, and there's hope there. It's a great story being told just through the tone of the song.
Maaaan that beat change at 2:56 gets me every time
Definitely don’t be skeptical of this version of the song, I saw the movie last night and it’s amazinggg. The choreography throughout the whole thing (especially in this song) is top notch. Seeing it in the theatre makes it way better too because the bass boosting at 4:52 and other parts
It sounds amazing, still getting used to the voice changes - I catch myself expecting Chris and Lin to start rapping - but I CANNOT WAIT to hear the whole soundtrack and watch this masterpiece.
Same it catches me so off guard until I realize it’s supposed to be different voices
YAAAAS!!! So great. When I saw it LIVE on Broadway with the original cast, there was a mid-show standing ovation after this number. Giving me flashbacks of hearing the applause, cheers, screams, and everyone on their feet at the end. I'm literally gonna be applauding and screaming at the end of this number when I see it in the Movie Theaters.
If the movie does well, PLEASE BRING IT BACK TO BROADWAY!!!!!
The last time i have seen a mid show standing ovation was Aladdin

Its more conversational than the original, the original you can tell is staged. This seems more real. Maybe thats why there's a difference. But the end is still impressive!

" The only room with a view is a room with you in it" I didn't notice that last time that was SMOOTH
