It's so weird to hear that a DS game released only four years after an N64 game. Like, I know that there were even N64 games in 2001, and I've played some of them, but it never felt like the DS came out THAT soon after to me!
yeah me too, i allways thought that the DS relased along side the nintendo wii or some months later, i got to google it to make sure that info was right, damn i can't even remember any DS here in mexico on 2004, only people mention it as a tech miracle
Moore's law gives you more transistors but Dennard scaling made them useful. As an average during the 90's clock speeds increased by 50% per year and IPC by 10% per year. If that had continued we would be using 1500 GHz single core CPUs now. 2003 is when it became apparent that Dennard scaling was starting to seriously break down. It's a sobering reminder that pentium mmx 233 MHz to athlon 64 2 GHz was 5 years. That's why everything feels so compressed around then.
Damn...the rayman 2 upscaled footage looks exactly like the n64 version Ps. I like having a themed episode of this series every now and then, I think that's a good idea.
yeah, themed episodes are good, the only thing i want to point out is if there are not enough games to put together to make a theme then its better not force it, its cool to have them separated so its easier to find them but forcing it in the future or make them themed only would make it a little bit harder to find/discover games that we want
1. Ridge Racer DS, 2004 (0:23) 2. Flower Sun and Rain, 2008 (1:23) 3. SaGa 3: Shadow or Light - Japan only, 2011 (2:34) 4. Rayman DS, 2005 (3:22) 5. Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals, 2010 - Japan & North America only (4:12)
it would be neat to see more games mentioned like Flower Sun and Rain that are more just generally interesting rather than graphically impressive. Perhaps "interesting games" could be a different series if there were enough to talk about that you knew of.
There was this one game I remember for the DS called something along the lines of V8 Supercars 3, and that was a very impressive technical achievement for the DS, and I remember it just being overall a really solid racing game
The game you're talking about is the DS port of Toca Race Driver 3. The game for the DS has been renamed in various ways. In EU it is known as Race Driver| Create and Race| while in the AUS as V8 Supercars because of the V8 Supercars championship
That last title when scaled up looks AMAZING for a DS game! The textures are so hi res and detailed, that's not something you see often on DS games at all!
Wow no Super Mario 64 DS, the Legendary Starfy, or Pokemon HG and SS. I'm kind of glad you didn't put those because those are well known. I never heard of a single game on this list. Good job 👏
In depth comparison of GBA Driver 3 & DS C.O.P The Recruit?? Maybe? Possibly? Jus throwin an idea out there...I mean it's the SAME game only separated by one handheld generation. They have soooo much in common
minimme you are great. I found out a lot fun DS,Gameboy and PSP games since I subscribed. And this video with remakes was awesome!!Keep up the good work.👍
I don't understand how the video is called "5 graphically impressive Nintendo DS games" and then the second game of the list is said to have "muddy textures" and "graphical inconsitencies". Isn't that exactly the opposite of the video is all about???
So cool to see FSR get some spotlight! Who knew my boi Minimme was a Suda51 fan?!?! Great video as always. Thanks for the heads up on Ridge Racer too. Love the N64 version.
I really like these kind of videos, it's not the altime best of which thousands of identical lists exist, it is just impressive stuff which makes it much more variated. Also, if you do another video with original and upscaled footage, can you put a marker of some text on the screen (small, somewhere at the bottom or smthing) to indicate which is the original footage and which is upscaled? I can tell it apart, but it takes some time/can get confusing.
I'd prefer if you showed the original versions of the games as well, so I can compare how close/improved they are from the original. Still a good video, though. Also, I need to know the name of the song in the end.
I always thought of him as anime Doc from Back to the Future, but now that you mention it, in game he does kinda act more like rick, lol, so yeah, lol. Also, I wouldn't quite recommend that game, yeah it looks pretty but as a game it's plot and combat (which is really what matters in JRPGs) are pretty meh.
It's a shame that Ridge Racer DS is almost impossible to 100% because of the lack of a rear view mirror, making some of the final car duels a crapshoot. Other than that, it was a good port of a fun game.
ive never seen these, I think this has to be one of the best videos on a couple of nintendo ds games out there. ill watch the rest of your ds videos now. thank you!
I dont know if you will continue doing this videos but if so you can check Nanashi No Game and the sequel Nanashi No Game Me. Those are japanese horror games (the best ones) with some impressive graphics and interesting controls
I know I'm a bit late on these video game lists, but would you consider having a look at Tomb Raider: Underworld for the ds? Back when I played it I thought it was pretty impressive, and quite fun too, although I found it a bit short.
Ghost Trick, later Professor Layton games, and Ōkamiden look pretty nice for 3D games. Heck, if I didn't know better would I think Ghost Trick was sprite based..!
there are a lot of stuff on the n-gage and the game.com that is amazingly pulled from them, sad those talented programmers worked on such flawed systems edit: wow, what the hell!? i accidentally discovered a new crowdfunding disappointment, kinda fitting huh?
sadly i dont think so, in the days i couldn't even find a proper emulator for pc =/ but its been years , maybe ur lucky and something like that exsits in the meantime
For any fans of Arkanoid, I highly recommend trying AlphaBounce. It's incredibly rare (due to it being a DSiWare game), but I do believe there is a PAL version out there. It is one of my most favourite DSi exclusive games, and definitely on my top 10 DS games in general.
Hey dude you gotta check out Star Wars Episode 3 on Ds. The game is 2D but there's a starship fighting minigame that's completely in stunning 3D for an early game in the DS library.
Love youve videos!!! Quick suggestion though, if ur gona keep doing a mix of native & high-res shots of these handheld games, maybe just mention it in the corner with some text so it's easier to tell which is which, and then you don't have to mention it all the time XD
I'm kinda interested in in you ever got around to playing more of Flower, Sun, and Rain and what you thought of it. I never finished it myself, it's an interesting game for sure, but the head hurting number based puzzles were just too much for me and felt like a chore to play.
lufia 2 could have gotten a treatment similar to the ys 1 and 2 remakes and sticked to the original script and it would have been great. If anything, lufia 1 was the game that deserved a remake.
I would have included SM64 DS since it's an enhanced port of the N64 game rather than cut down like the others on this list. It also looks amazing when upresed
How is it "surprising"? Aren't some games like nearly direct port of the PS3? I think the PS3 is not really "surprising" in the "great looking games" departement and the Vita shouln't either.
It's so weird to hear that a DS game released only four years after an N64 game. Like, I know that there were even N64 games in 2001, and I've played some of them, but it never felt like the DS came out THAT soon after to me!
It's actually super crazy looking back on time frames like this - like the 360 was released only 9 years after the N64. Tech is weird.
yeah me too, i allways thought that the DS relased along side the nintendo wii or some months later, i got to google it to make sure that info was right, damn i can't even remember any DS here in mexico on 2004, only people mention it as a tech miracle
Hi
The Golden Bolt's Game Reviews - I just wished that the controls for Ridge Racer DS were much better to play like the Nintendo 3DS is.
Moore's law gives you more transistors but Dennard scaling made them useful. As an average during the 90's clock speeds increased by 50% per year and IPC by 10% per year. If that had continued we would be using 1500 GHz single core CPUs now.

Awesome, back at it again. :) Love your vids, minimme!
Thanks man, and nice channel :)
We know you do lmao
Ayyyyyyy
@@Beengus ayyyyyyyyyy lmaaaaoooooooooo
two minimme videos in one week?
ultimate nut.

Damn...the rayman 2 upscaled footage looks exactly like the n64 version

What! No super mario 64 ds
Thx
Thx

Not a bad idea, I'll brainstorm and see how I'd do something like this :)
Still waiting for 5 graphically impressive things about your toes...
I play Ridge Racer DS all the time. There’s so much bonus content, and the gameplay is really tight once you get used to it. I love it.
Amazing Kirby Canvas Curse commercial at the start of the video.
Good job 👏
do 5 graphically impressive virtual boy games
"coming in at number 0"
he can't just put the entire library of the console in one video!
the early DS really had a lot of promise just as a portable n64. Mario 64 was so promising a launch.
And this video with remakes was awesome!!Keep up the good work.👍
Thankyou!
my boy is back

Ridgeeeeeeeeeeee racerrrrrrrr!!!

Good idea, will do :)
I'd prefer if you showed the original versions of the games as well, so I can compare how close/improved they are from the original. Still a good video, though.
Also, I need to know the name of the song in the end.
The music is the village theme from Lufia 2. Just search for "Lufia 2 Village", and it should come up.
Thank you a lot! That song is so pretty.
4:54 Holy shit! It's Anime Rick!
Where, is, my, 4K UPSCALING!?!?
I'M ANIME RIIIICK!!!
REE
REE
I'M ANIME REEE!
I always thought of him as anime Doc from Back to the Future, but now that you mention it, in game he does kinda act more like rick, lol, so yeah, lol. I'm anime Riiiiick!
These guys are Idiots
That SUDA GAME IS GORGEOUS! Such a brilliant purposeful use of the DS's pixely textures.
That Lufia game looks fantastic
Why did rayman DS suddenly pop into my head about 5 seconds before it came up in the video?
It's a shame that Ridge Racer DS is almost impossible to 100% because of the lack of a rear view mirror, making some of the final car duels a crapshoot. Other than that, it was a good port of a fun game.

If the DS version of Lufia 2 didn't tickle your fancy, try the original. It's worth it and the soundtrack is great.
Best looking wii/3ds games please
JSN Gaming that's too recent.
Flammenwerfer you might be right on that one.
Flan76 Sonic Colours is the best looking WII game
For a future video, please consider Broken Sword for both the DS and GBA!
Ghost Trick, later Professor Layton games, and Ōkamiden look pretty nice for 3D games. Heck, if I didn't know better would I think Ghost Trick was sprite based..!
Yeah, I really like the idea of theming the episodes.
Yo, but that Rayman though? That was a surprise, damn. I'll have to look into it
That car in Flower Sun and Rain looked very detailed tho, I thought it was a pre rendered image
You should do a part 2 of this.
playing those games legally with emulators with 4x native resolution setting will make those games really nice, clear and crisp.
Over the Hedge definitely deserves to make one these lists. The graphics are absolutely stunning for the Nintendo DS.
will you do some videos with N-gage games😂?
If I can track down an N-Gage for cheap, yes haha
there are a lot of stuff on the n-gage and the game.com that is amazingly pulled from them, sad those talented programmers worked on such flawed systems
edit: wow, what the hell!? i accidentally discovered a new crowdfunding disappointment, kinda fitting huh?
haha still got mine , even a sd with every single title for the entire system :D some were really fun actually !
hey orbit, do you know if exist any kind of emulator for android?, i would love to rock the hell out of it on my xperia play :P
sadly i dont think so, in the days i couldn't even find a proper emulator for pc =/ but its been years , maybe ur lucky and something like that exsits in the meantime
Howdy yall
Dude I really love your vids. keep up with the comparisons and also personal reviews and you will go very far.
thank you for the vids again
Thankyou :)

“I got to fight geodude at some point” made me smile
Hey dude you gotta check out Star Wars Episode 3 on Ds. The game is 2D but there's a starship fighting minigame that's completely in stunning 3D for an early game in the DS library.
Love youve videos!!! Quick suggestion though, if ur gona keep doing a mix of native & high-res shots of these handheld games, maybe just mention it in the corner with some text so it's easier to tell which is which, and then you don't have to mention it all the time XD
FUN FACT: Final Fantasy Legend III also came out on the SNES as Romancing Saga 3.
Not the same game.
Best ports from full consoles to handhelds (any game to any handhelds)
Like of you agree he should make this video!
I've played Rayman DS a lot on the actual console and it doesn't have any performance issues which were mentioned in the video.
Don't forget the Golden Sun series of games for the DS!!!
4:53 *'I TURNED MYSELF INTO A JRPG-CHARACTER, MORTY!'*
No SM64DS? It has a lot of content and is a 3D launch title that is still technically impressive.
holy shit, i didnt know about ridge racer and it looks exactly like something i was looking for on the DS, an Outrun clone
I'm kinda interested in in you ever got around to playing more of Flower, Sun, and Rain and what you thought of it. I never finished it myself, it's an interesting game for sure, but the head hurting number based puzzles were just too much for me and felt like a chore to play.
I would add Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2, it looks very good and runs smooth
I'd be interested in seeing a gameboy color graphics video ;) I'm sure you can open some eyes with games like toy story racers!!
I think you forgot one major DS remake that looks quite good for the system. Super Mario 64 DS!
Please do graphically impressive 3ds games!
lufia 2 could have gotten a treatment similar to the ys 1 and 2 remakes and sticked to the original script and it would have been great. If anything, lufia 1 was the game that deserved a remake.
Great work !!! 👍😆
Rayman 2 also was ported to the 3DS as rayman 3D
Ridge Racer is always a good looking game.
You froggot sm64ds
Love these
How about a list of games that actually use the DS's second screen as something other than novelty minimap or menu system?
I would have included SM64 DS since it's an enhanced port of the N64 game rather than cut down like the others on this list. It also looks amazing when upresed
Thank you! I mean, as great as the original was, Super Mario 64 DS improved upon it so much.
Rayman DS was also remade on the 3DS
Best looking Vita games maybe?
There's some suprisingly great looking games on the vita.
How is it "surprising"? Aren't some games like nearly direct port of the PS3? I think the PS3 is not really "surprising" in the "great looking games" departement and the Vita shouln't either.
Excellent video
but when are you gonna make 5 graphically impressive feet
4:54 He looks familiar
"Smooth"
"30 frames"
lol
3:10 Wait, you know about Pokémon?!
Good luck with FS&R. that games hard. Erik satie soundtrack for the win tho, game is vaporwave as fuck
Saga 3 has a English fan translation you know
i remember Harry Potter 5 looking good on ds but that could just be nostalgia
Kirby and the giant finger
Kyle Hyde series and Nanashi no Game series pls.
Conker's Bad Fur Day would have been nice to see on the DS. The *real* conker that is. Not the xbox360 one.
Where is sm64 ds
I know it's amazing
That was a launch title
I find that transformer ROTF autobots and transformers ROTF decpticons are good graphically and gameplay
I love your shit, keep it up.
You should cover Tales of hearts in a future video, if someone havent sugested it yet
Metroid prime hunters
Wow! Theses videos are Very impressive haha
dope ds games
You forgot the Resident Evil 1 remake for the ds
you should mention skate it for ds
That Lufia re-imagining may be technically impressive but its a complete butcher job of the original which is one of the best games on the snes
Shouldn't Resident Evil: Deadly Silence replace Rayman DS?
ChiefMedicPururu nop
SM64 DS? Also Rayman 2 also get a 3ds remake
I never understand why neverland created a ds parody of Lufia 2.
It's Célica
trouble with rayman 2 on ds is...rayman 2 on n64 wasn’t the version to play
Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga
Do one of games that looked better on the gameboy micro
Speaking of remakes final fantasy 7
say it with me now....
SELL-ICK-UH
you forget custom robo arena
Oh Lufia !
I HAVE RRDS!! It's difficult.
