If I were the crew, I’d be confused too. Because from Beyoncé’s gestures it seemed like she wanted the stairs closer and wanted to get off the horse (which she attempts at one point), but then wanted the stairs gone. But was pissed when the stairs were taken away, and then wanted the stairs back!? But the stairs could not be moved any closer, because they’re RIGHT up against the plinth the horse is on. That shit is not set up for quick mounts and dismounts the way Beyoncé wanted in this moment. A mess. Everybody (me, I am everybody) is cracking jokes that this crew ‘bout to get fired, but I feel for them. Because it’s REALLY not clear what Beyoncé actually wanted from moment to moment. I think the takeout should be that perhaps there needs to be specific hand signals / gestures for situations relating to things that will more than likely go wrong (sound, fans, staging, stairs). And big set piece moments like this should absolutely have clear backup solutions and protocols. They better come up for a solution for the Renny wagon. Because that bitch will end up stalling at some point. There are SO many moving pieces to this tour (perhaps too many), that it’s no wonder more shit hasn’t gone wrong.
I agree!! I was thinking by about it… She never usually dismounts the horse. It usually lands and she flies off, and then lands on the ground by herself. So she probably never has dismounted the horse using stairs. So she probably thought the stairs could get closer, but they couldn’t. I’m honestly glad she didn’t get down in the middle of the show, because it looks unsafe. Not worth it!!

Now that I see this angle, she was trying to stylistically tell them from her left side to HOOK the steps on. You can see when she first looked at him, he was sitting on the steps and not reading the cues. Thats why her foot was on the step in the first place, waiting for them to hook it on but no one was catching. There's no reason a performing artist would want their crew to be huddled around her and her dancers in the closing song, so im not sure how they didnt pick up that she wanted the steps hooked on, as they were intended for.

From my understanding the plan must have been for her to get of the horse sometime during the song but it looks like she didn’t want to or she didn’t feel comfortable getting off the horse so she tried to signal for them to go away but obviously the crew was not getting it at all

I guess I can see both sides. It’s your show, the people are there to see you, so you should have the freedom to do whatever you want to and change it up. I can also see the crew’s perspective. You do something the same way night after night for weeks/months, you get into the routine. You look for your cues not to miss your mark to move or change something when it’s your time. You might not be expecting to do something else besides the usual at the drop of a hat without being told before hand. I’m sure the music on stage is loud, crowd is loud, bright lights, dancers in the way, with those distractions it could be very easy to miss a subtle hit. People aren’t mind readers, during outfit change or water break could have told someone want to end it differently. And I’m sure someone helped her up there, that woulda been good time to mention it too. But I digress.
Sometimes these things happen as I’ve seen Diana Ross and Anita Baker get upset with the sound crew even where some entertainers fell while performing so technical things will malfunction. Maybe things will workout smoothly at the next show and though Beyoncé was pissed things didn’t work out she still sang well. But I’m sure like Diana and Anita some jobs were lost after the show.

The crew were not supposed to on stage to start with. Obviously, they were on stage because of thecrew not getting her off the horse when planned. No performer parades their stage crew around on the stage during a performance. No one paid to see them.

I think (just from observation) probably what happened was she noticed that the horse had a malfunction, so she wanted to get off and preform “closer to the fans”, aka go to the middle of the stage. BUT the stairs weren’t close enough so she wanted them to move forward, so she could get off. U can see she tried to pull it with her foot 2:02 but that didn’t work, and then gave the crew a look and that made them back off but ofc being annoyed because that’s not what she wanted to happen 2:13!!! This is just from observation. Hope that the situation is fixed

They were trying to get her OFF Reneigh, which I think was Beyoncé’s intention in the beginning, which the crew understood, hence them pulling up the stairs and trying to get her down. But watching this video you can see Beyoncé was beckoning for the stairs, then waving for them to be taken away. It wasn’t like she clearly told the crew one thing, and they did another. The communication in this moment was poor and there was only so much anybody could do. If everybody is on their shit, they’ll take this as a lesson for future shows to ensure that there is a clear and shared understanding on both sides of what needs to go down.
