Fun Fact: MLK's first (and according to multiple close friends, only) true love was Betty Moitz, a white woman of German descent he met while at Crozer Seminary. They were planning to marry, but MLK's parents and family shot down the relationship, claiming an interracial marriage between the two would cause further animosity between blacks and whites. They set up an arraigned marriage between him and Coretta Scott instead, but he never fully recovered emotionally and the two never stopped loving each other, even when separated.
Personally, I think that is one of the greatest tragedies of the entire movement. They were/would have been an excellent power couple and it would have made much more progress in repairing race relations. The leaders of the movement were far too focused on appeasement and let their own biases/ego come into play!
i feel like MLK would’ve been killed much earlier if the racist whites find out he is in relationship with a white woman especially if he was opened about it
