It's funny, if MPs were this approachable BEFORE they reached the peak of their parties, they'd probably get elected just based off the fact we know more about Ed now, than we ever did before.
I disagree, Milliband was great back in 2015 but he was faced with the same slander as Corbyn was, with the main difference being that the slander against Milliband was more baseless.
Really dislike "the wrong brother" trope because Ed wasn't and still isn't the wrong brother for the Labour Party. Have met Tory voters who have repeated that and maybe David Milliband would have gained some Tory voters at the expense of losing some Labour voters.
He was the wrong brother. I kind of can’t forgive how Ed so royally messed up the the premiership race by competing with his brother - who arguably was on track to be an amazing Labour Leader. It’s how we ended up with Corbyn and Starmer
Another one like Rayner who has no place in the modern Labour party under Sir Kid Starver, absolute shame given he actually seems to have morals and ideas.
50:30 - when Johnson started doing his Tory September 1st 2019 clear out, I knew then, realised, square between my eyes, Britain is now fffked. Thanks the Ed & Jim Show. 👍
Regarding Lisa Nandy removing social media from her phone, I stopped following her when she didn't reply to A.C. Grayling's open letter on her sell out informed referendum position. We can now clearly see that this position was disastrous, as she knew it would be. Bizarre when politicians go along with the masses, rather than fighting for what they believe in.
@@phildavies6020 The whole point of being an MP should be to do what they think is best for their constituents, not follow the bs handed down by the mainstream media and the corrupt Cambridge Analytica, which I believe we only know a fraction of what they and their ilk were up to. If there were any even emerging benefits of Brexit I might think that you have a point.
@mustaphaluke I thought that they’re there to represent you and carry out the wishes of the majority of their constituents. My MP, like many others, voted against her constituents’ wishes. I don’t blame mainstream media or ant other influences. Like the majority of the population I can make up my own mind. At the end of the day my MP, like me, had only one vote.
@@phildavies6020 All about policies in my book. Brexit exemplified this. Lefties voting for a Farage inspired Brexit, they were never going to make it their own. Wrong time, wrong place!
Does no one remember how he almost singlehandedly kept Labour out of power for years and years? If anyone gives a fig about this I will share my thoughts with you.
Yes please! Go for it. Bit o' depth though. Stay away from things such as, say, Ed being portrayed as 'out of touch' on the basis of being 'uncomfortable' eating a bacon sandwich. People of Jewish heritage are often uneasy doing that. So, over to you Nora:
I haven't yet seen James interview anyone worth interviewing. More to the point why indeed would anyone worth interviewing consent to a pound shop pseudo left wing James O'Brien interview
Much as I enjoy this interview, as a fan of both James and Ed, James: please, ast some point, you have to start raising the point of the illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank, the settler violence and killings, the repeated IDF slaughters? You spend a lot of time talking about really important stuff, almost always offering really important moral and decent thoughts on anything from these horrific migrant barges to Brexit, anti-welfare rhetoric and racism. But Israel keeps slaughtering Palestinians and I can't see anyone else other than you having any chance of raising this on any national radio broadcaster.
The only dividends I know of when young was Littlewoods from Liverpool football pools that my maternal grandfather filled in religiously, each Sunday, after roast dinner/lunch.
When very young, I always got Littlewoods confused with Woolworths shop, where Glenda Jackson had her first job, on the Wirral. Two Oscar's Glenda - withering Thatcher attack, ultra withering. 👍😳😁
Its hard not to believe there was no personal or sibling rivalry going on between Ed and his brother, even if he states is was genuine political differences and purposes for putting themselves forward. Also getting all heated about the lack of council house building by labour as well...hhmm well..not much point getting all heated about it now, most people renting or in insecure tenancies could have told you that 20 or 30 years ago...not to mention those stuck on housing registers etc hardly able to secure a private tenancy.Bit late in the day to get all up about it now.
Enjoying these but I think James is still prone to ask a question and then when thinks he knows the answer he interrupts prematurely - possibly missing some intelligent responses
Ed Miiliband mmmm! I’ve emailed him twice asking for his assistance in his capacity as shadow Secretary of State, and never even got an acknowledgment. I’ve got to say, my local MP (Tory), at least took it up with a minister, and I got a full detailed response, even if it wasn’t the response I wanted. (I don’t vote Tory the way!). So why would I vote for his party when this lazy so and so is just taking up wasted space and “treading water”.
Its interesting how you can very easily find out what some people do by looking at history books. Goerge Orwell, Charles Dickens, Monty Python, Generalissimo Kitchener.
Yes Ed ... " The perception of leadership on the doorstep was very bad " . You may find that when you have one decent man fighting for proper rights for working AND disadvantaged people it helps if you all ( and I mean ALL of the shadow cabinet ) put their full weight of support behind the democratically elected leader . Their was absolutely no question that Corbyn was stabbed in the back by his own party . Thanks to THEM we have had to endure attacks on everything that unions throughout the country had fought for over generations , pay .. terms and conditions ..workers rights .. The Labour party at that time were absolutely complicit in everything that is happening now . How do you all sleep at night ? For what it's worth , I am a TRUE Labour supporter .. always have been , and always will .
NO, it proves that you can not have a leader that the PP dosn't want and is out of step with the majority of the people who would vote for you. It is very sad that you still can't accept that Corbyn was utterly toxic to the majority of Labour voters. He also had absolutly no idea how to lead, a combination that was guaranteed to loose.
Just started this and its clear how blind both of these are. They are discussing why Labour lost the last election and both are too scared to say the real reason....people generally want economic socialism, but are terrified by Labours impact on immigration and the culture war. Labour should focus on being a workers party again.
I was born 17 years after WW2 was almost ending. Now Rod Stewart, which I share a birthday, he was born in 1945 then. I ask him, how was it like? He said 'I remember f'k all, sorry'. 😎

I'm really enjoying these podcasts. They give a real insight into the person being interviewed in less than an hour. Well done James 👍
Yes, especially with the passing of Parkinson, it’s great for the tradition of the long form interview to be continued.
Surprised you have the time to do them justice Thomas with all your entrepreneurial endeavours during the day.
Shame they are posted so far after the actual interview eh.
This was originally recorded in feb 2020 is that correct?
I was so confused. Like ‘have I just missed an entire general election???’
Any chance of dating these uploads please so we know when it was recorded? Thanks.

More a case of surprising that an MP does something that the public want rather than something they don’t.
